To worry about this heart rate?

I am anaemic and not particularly fit. I have a bmi of 28 and am trying to lose weight. I wear an Apple Watch and when I’m running my heart rate shoots up. Today it reached a max of 210 bpm. The Apple Watch doesn’t go higher. I felt awful and had to stop. It’s only running when this happens. DH thinks I should get checked out. I feel fine. What do you think.

I have a pacemaker and Afib you definitely need to get that checked

fogglez · 20/03/2022 20:09

Anything above 100bmp isn't particularly good for you.

even when exercising?

Atypicaldancer · 20/03/2022 20:10

I feel a fraud because my resting heart rate is low. But I will. DH says he won’t let me run until I’ve seen the GP.

Atypicaldancer · 20/03/2022 20:11

Yes I thought that my max was something like 185 when exercising. It’s just that it’s over 210 that’s a worry.

@PartyPlan

I have a heart arrhythmia and that’s how high my heart rate goes when I go in to SVT. Does it come on suddenly or a gradual increase while you run?
Same. Please go to your GP OP there’s no way we can diagnose Flowers

That’s not correct!

fogglez · 20/03/2022 20:21

but yes 210 not good op, get it checked out

Whawasthat · 20/03/2022 20:28

Worth getting checked op. My heart has been racing recently around 180 at rest, so without exercise. GP thinks it’s SVT and I’m waiting for an ECG. I’m too scared to exercise as it jumps from 59 sitting to 100 just walking to the next room, not sure if that’s normal though ! Also using Apple Watch to monitor.

Shopgirl1 · 20/03/2022 20:33

59 is not a low resting heart beat, it’s just normal. Fit from running would be lower than that at rest. You shouldn’t worry about what the Gp thinks about your resting heart beat, your heart rate when exercising is too high and needs to be checked.

Atypicaldancer · 20/03/2022 20:40

Yes I don’t think I’m fit. But resting heart rate is fine. I’ve just tried DH’s Apple Watch alongside mine and the reading is the same.

Most heart attacks occur when the blood supply to the heart becomes blocked.

When I was in hospital for an emergency admission last year, in the next bed was a youngish woman (30s or 40s) who had had what the doctor called a Type 2 heart attack. Essentially her heart had been beating so fast that it had emptied itself faster than the normal blood supply could keep up with.

You need to be checked.

YorkshireLass81 · 20/03/2022 20:43

I'm 41, bmi 24 and my heart rate regularly goes to around 210 beats per minute if I'm doing strenuous exercise, gp isn't concerned as long as it recovers back to normal rates pretty quickly which it does.

Choux · 20/03/2022 20:48

Are you sure you aren't running too fast? Your easy pace should be one where you are breathless but still able to hold a conversation. Your hard pace should be an incremental increase on that - I don't remember the factor. Interval training - where you push yourself hard for short periods - is supposed to be just for short periods during your run.

Looking at your graph your heart rate looks very high for more than 1-2 mins. Is your OH much taller, fitter than you? If you are trying to keep up with him perhaps it's too hard an effort for you to sustain?

ivykaty44 · 20/03/2022 20:55

Anything above 100bmp isn't particularly good for you

Really? Then how can people exercise? @ Burgoo

DotBall · 20/03/2022 20:58

Might be related to the anaemia.
I had similar issues with high heart rate when running (and high blood pressure after covid) and both resolved after an iron infusion.

Yogini1976 · 20/03/2022 21:12

I’m not a medical professional but speaking as a partner of someone who had major heart surgery last year, I would absolutely stop exercising and see your GP asap to get a diagnosis. Good luck Flowers

From the NHS website:

"Most adults have a resting heart rate between 60 and 100bpm. The fitter you are, the lower your resting heart rate is likely to be. For example, athletes may have a resting heart rate of 40 to 60bpm."

So OP's resting heart rate is below "normal" and edging into "athlete". I feel like your comment wasn't designed to add any information, you just wanted to bring her down a peg.

longcoffeebreak · 20/03/2022 21:19

@amusedbush er no 59 isn't that low. Some people have low resting heart rates for other reasons. A low resting rate runs in our family for example.
Also you can be fit and have a heart defect or rhythm problem.

fogglez · 20/03/2022 21:20

59 is a perfectly normal lower resting heart rate though

Atypicaldancer · 20/03/2022 21:21

I’m definitely not edging into athlete- but my resting heart rate is fine. It is only running that seems to do this.

fogglez · 20/03/2022 21:22

particularly for the OPs age.

GeneLovesJezebel · 20/03/2022 21:23

Palpitations can be caused by anaemia, and at 41 you could be heading for peri. Do you know what age your mum had her men ?

GeneLovesJezebel · 20/03/2022 21:24

*menopause

Atypicaldancer · 20/03/2022 21:25

My mum had my brother at 40 but not sure when she had the menopause.
