…the Ukraine resistance against Russian troups to the British voting to leave the EU.

From the BBC: he said Britons, like Ukrainians, had the instinct "to choose freedom", citing the 2016 vote to leave the EU as a "famous recent example".

Seeing the death and destruction on t.v. and thinking it’s a good analogy? I don’t get what could possibly be going through his mind to even think this.

@Susu49

I mean the man did climb into a fridge to avoid a question!!
That made me laugh! Tip of the iceberg. He got Nazanin Z-R’s sentence increased through his carelessness. He presided over partygate. He made disgusting comments about Dunblane. He compared Muslim women to letterboxes and bank robbers. Do we really have to rehearse all this shit every time?
Hawkins001 · 20/03/2022 02:28

@TooBigForMyBoots

He's a lying, inappropriate, atrocious cunt. How fucking dare he compare the plight of Ukrainians to the voters he hoodwinked into Brexit.
"Hoodwinked" what happened to the voter's carrying out research and due diligence, then voting ?

Night feed time, Carrie?

I mean the man did climb into a fridge to avoid a question!

Thats the level of Johnsons analysis and debate 😀

YANBU - he’s a liability.

Have people seen Winter on Fire?
It's on Netflix and is about what happened in Ukraine in 2013

There was a wave of demonstrations and civil unrest in Ukraine, which began on 21 November 2013 with large protests in Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) in Kyiv.

The protests were sparked by the Ukrainian government's sudden decision not to sign the European Union–Ukraine Association Agreement, instead choosing closer ties to Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union. Ukraine's parliament had overwhelmingly approved of concluding the Agreement with the EU while Russia had put pressure on Ukraine to reject it.

There was a lot of protests over 3 months. 125 people died after vicious police action.

Many Ukrainian people wanted to have closer ties with the EU. They still do. Russia is destroying this with their actions and killing 1000s of people.

We had a democratic referendum. There were lots of discussions about this and votes in Parliament. There was a lot of public debate. The UK was and still is very split on their views on the EU.

What message is he sending to the Ukrainian people?
What message is he sending to people in the UK who voted to Remain?

We lost a lot of our freedoms when we left the EU.
We also gained some as well.

I voted Remain. That does not make me a collaborator or someone who does not believe in freedom. I can see the advantages of being in the EU and I can see that there are some advantages of being out of the EU.

I don't see the EU destroying our country because we voted to Leave.

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 20/03/2022 08:59

The current government is one of the worst I can remember. I can’t wait to vote them out at the next election. Sunak has hinted that he’s going to go ahead with his planned NI hike from April making families worse off at a time when we really could do without tax hikes. We all know that the money raised will be squandered and lost. How can they justify increasing taxes to raise funds when they’ve wasted so many millions on failed projects in the last few years? They rob us of every spare penny and then squander it.

AlexaShutUp · 20/03/2022 09:21

@Hawkins001

Anyways I defended the head of mi6 and I'm guessing I'll get similar responses here. So to all that read this, why name call and character assassinate ? Does it make those that do feel better ? Why would you spend time gutter talking when you can debate and constructive analysis different perspectives ?
For something as crass as this statement from Boris, what is there to analyse, exactly? It's abundantly clear that the statement is a)totally incorrect and b)wildly inappropriate in light of the current suffering of the Ukrainian people. It is also very clear that Johnson is shamelessly attempting to use that suffering for his own political advantage.

Some things simply are not worthy of debate or analysis.

Who are the 8%? Jesus Confused

LadySybilRamekin · 20/03/2022 09:28

Does anyone think Boris would have stayed and fought instead of getting the first flight out of the country in case of invasion? Anyone at all?

I think we all know the answer to that one.

He needs to resign

Blogblogblogblog · 20/03/2022 09:37

I am awake now! I read the news before going to bed and couldn’t sleep because I was so angry and incredulous even Johnson would say something so crass. That’s why I started the thread. I am really glad of the responses on here as it feels humanity, overall, feels the same way.

Blossomtoes · 20/03/2022 09:38

He never misses a chance, does he?

EnjoyingTheSilence · 20/03/2022 09:41

He’s a twat. He was before this (yet another crass) comment and always will be. Not sure why anyone is surprised though. An utter embarrassment but people will still vote for him.

ClaudineClare · 20/03/2022 09:53

Yanb at all u. Johnson is the worst PM we have ever had, he is a corrupt, inept blagger who never should have been in aniffing distance of power.

Imagine if the UK was invaded. Call-Me-Churchill and his cabinet would scarper straight away.

ClaudineClare · 20/03/2022 09:54

Sniffing not aniffing! Angry typing.

Thymeout · 20/03/2022 09:55

He just can't help it, can he?

The media yesterday was full of Rees-Mogg and how Partygate was just fluff. People asked about it in the street whether they thought it mattered now. How Johnson was actually thought of as a bit of a hero in Ukraine because he'd been taking centre-stage talking about 'shoulder to shoulder' etc etc. All rhetoric, but he was making more noise about it than, say, Biden.

Then, a speech to the faithful and he just can't resist blowing his own trumpet, patting himself on the back, in a naked attempt to capitalise on the Ukrainian tragedy and boost his own record. And what's more he's compared the EU to to Putin, so they're not happy either.

May elections? Or even a quick G.E. before the cost of living crisis really hits home?

PierresPotato · 20/03/2022 09:58

He has come across to me as an unpleasant man with very little good sense and a patina of education that bolsters his idiotic self esteem.
So now I take no notice of him.
He doesn't deserve your attention OP.

Kendodd · 20/03/2022 09:59

Is Putin's (other) useful idiot and super fan boy, Nigel Farage still flag waving for Russia on this one?

KonTikki · 20/03/2022 10:00

It made him headlines which is all he wanted.
What he says is irrelevant as long as he gets the publicity.
He's lived his entire life like this, and won't stop now.
Lovely isn't it Confused

cakeorwine · 20/03/2022 10:01

Sunak on the media this morning saying he wasn't comparing the war in Ukraine and choosing freedom with Brexit.

Despite evidence to the contrary.

Kendodd · 20/03/2022 10:04

He doesn't deserve your attention OP.
Unfortunately as PM he does, he deserves a massive great stoplight permanently on him. Nothing he does seems to shake of his devoted fans though. Not the lies, not insulting the electorate or even victims of child sex abuse, and this won't either.
