To tell him to shove the ... slippers?

Dh has a thing about being barefoot in the house. It's bad and wrong, apparently, and will lead to pneumonia and/or arthritis (he's Italian, so... Hmm).

I, on the other hand, hate wearing shoes and prefer to be barefoot at home whenever possible.

Fine, we have learned to live with our opposing views on appropriate footwear. Grin

However, he keeps nagging DD (who's 5) to put on her slippers. DD has inherited my approach to footwear and would prefer to be barefoot. But he reminds her about ten times a day to put her slippers on. And then he gets cross when she doesn't have them on. And then there's a big to-do because of the fucking slippers. Hmm Hmm Hmm

I haven't said anything up to now, in the spirit of always backing up the other parent, but any day now, I'm going to flip and tell him to shove the fucking slippers up his fucking ... Angry Angry Angry

AIBU?

(Lighthearted, before I'm told I'm being incredibly childish/DH should LTB, etc.)

It is a literal developmental fact that kids feet need space and feedback. Admittedly slippers aren't usually tight so space is probably fine. But kids footwear needs to be flexible sole, wide toe box etc (and adults really, but we're all conditioned into narrow restrictive footwear....I'm hoping to change this for myself soon)
And honestly, trying to get a 5yo to do something they don't want to? He should get a grip. So many other things to focus energy om in a 5yo, and she's old enough to make her own choice in this.

The plantar fasciitis thing...yeah walking barefoot aggravates it, but supportive footwear is what helps, not loose slippers. However plantar fasciitis will never go away if you rely on supportive footwear - there are usually imbalances and weaknesses in the foot which need to be addressed. Using supportive footwear conditions the feet to only function with it, so it always hurts when without said footwear. Unfortunately most medical professionals (except a decent osteopath etc) will just suggest special insoles 🙄

I admit I skimmed the thread for the update before I posted 😁

😁 OP here. He actually bought me slippers for my birthday in September. 😅 Which I am now wearing because our tiled floor is fucking freezing! For DD, we have compromised on slipper socks, which she will actually wear. Peace reigns and no slippers have been inserted anywhere. 😄

All the barefooters on this thread please don't be offended by my question but do you have super hard skin on your feet? I feel like my heels would be the Before pic on a footner advert if I didn't wear socks on my hard floors!

When ive been barefoot during the day, I wash my feet before bed with a pumice stone, so not really.

Mine also does this and it is so annoying. My dd regularly ignores him and is barefoot. He will moan at her, she’ll put slippers on for 5 mins and then they’re off again. Repeat.
He seems to think she’ll develop hypothermia from having bare feet!

This is ridiculous. There is LOADS of research to prove going barefoot is really GOOD for everyone, particularly kids with developing feet. The people obsessing about slippers are probably the same people who think going to bed with wet hair will make them catch a cold. Or using hair of the dog will cure a hangover.
