To tell him to shove the ... slippers?

Dh has a thing about being barefoot in the house. It's bad and wrong, apparently, and will lead to pneumonia and/or arthritis (he's Italian, so... Hmm).

I, on the other hand, hate wearing shoes and prefer to be barefoot at home whenever possible.

Fine, we have learned to live with our opposing views on appropriate footwear. Grin

However, he keeps nagging DD (who's 5) to put on her slippers. DD has inherited my approach to footwear and would prefer to be barefoot. But he reminds her about ten times a day to put her slippers on. And then he gets cross when she doesn't have them on. And then there's a big to-do because of the fucking slippers. Hmm Hmm Hmm

I haven't said anything up to now, in the spirit of always backing up the other parent, but any day now, I'm going to flip and tell him to shove the fucking slippers up his fucking ... Angry Angry Angry

AIBU?

(Lighthearted, before I'm told I'm being incredibly childish/DH should LTB, etc.)

My kids and I are always barefooted! If I have to wear socks to go out, they're straight off when I get home. Never had any foot problems or pneumonia..

I send DDs for their slippers when thy complain about cold floors. Kitchen floor is particularly chilly.

Generally though, its appropriate footwear and clothing for your activity. General lounging doesn't require anything

Team slippers here.
Bit of protection from when something is spilled or dropped or left on the floor, and the occasional stubbed toe.

Think the slippers thing is quite ingrained for some Italians - a boyfriends mother was always utterly horrified at the thought of bare feet on floors.

Unless you have specific foot issues then walking around barefoot at home is fine. It bemuses me how many things people find to worry about.

My Italian DF is obsessed with us all wearing out slippers in the house. We took a bag full round for Christmas dinner today.

I've always been a barefooter (sometimes to extremes) but now I'm 60 I note that I prefer slippers now, probably irrelevant to a 5 year old, but I now see the merit of slippers.

slippers can be dangerous for youngsters on stairs so maybe socks? compromise, socks in cold weather and barefoot when it’s hot.

No, what causes chilblains is a twatting electric blanket when you feet are cold getting into the fucker.

I go barefoot in summer, but it's far too cold to go barefoot at the moment.

All the barefooters on this thread please don't be offended by my question but do you have super hard skin on your feet? I feel like my heels would be the Before pic on a footner advert if I didn't wear socks on my hard floors!

Have a conversation away from dd and agree whether there is a rule about wearing slippers (clearly there shouldn't be because that would be mental). Adding there is no rule, he needs to stop pulling her up on this.

Yup, I've got feet like a bloody hobbit, but I wouldn't have it any other way, I love to be barefoot.

I love my slippers because they keep my feet warm and clean.
My sister is of the barefoot brigade and her feet are always filthy, despite being very houseproud.
I was thrilled to unwrap my Xmas gift slippers yesterday. ( My youngest always buys me a new pair every Xmas 👍 )

I'm a barefooter and I've been complimented on the skin of my feet by a reflexologist.
