Do you work from home?

If so what sort of job are you in? Do you see working from home as a benefit?

I work from home almost full time. I love it. I'm so productive. Even on days where I don't feel great, I find that I can get just enough done whereas if I were in the office I would achieve nothing feeling like that. I have two small children but it means I can drop them off at nursery and pick them up at a reasonable time so everyone's needs are catered for. The flexibility for us as a family is great. My meetings are all on Teams. You do need a dedicated work space and proper set up. Big screen etc..... I also have a comfy chair by the window to sit on for a change. Sometimes I move to sit at the kitchen table for variety. I put something in the slow cooker mid afternoon for dinner!

I'm a Relationship Manager. After a few years at home I applied for this role as it is hybrid - 3 days in the office, 2 at home. I enjoy the balance. I love my days at home and wouldn't give them up for anything - I can get so much work done, as well as keep on top of my personal life admin.

rainyskylight · 17/03/2022 19:12

I wfh 2-3 days per week and this suits me. Going in every day is exhausting and counterproductive in many ways. Staying at home every day is bad for team morale and interdepartmental productivity. I'm also senior in our team and have noticed that juniors who predominantly wfh are hugely held back in terms of their career and skillset progression - and that means they are less useful to us as a company. I have a 17mo DC and wfh occasionally takes huge pressure off the morning and afternoon nursery run.

Our company also works US hours a lot so we introduced flexi working before the pandemic. No point being in the office 9am-6pm when most of our work happens 12pm-9pm.

I’m looking for another job as our boss wants us in three times a week in the next few months. With the fuel prices it may as well be 5 days a week plus the commute is over an hour each way. No thanks! Hope to leave soon. 1/2 days in office a week is enough. I love WFH

Ilikewinter · 17/03/2022 19:12

Also civil service, i do 3 days at home and love it. Today was an office day and it was soo noisy i actually got very little done!

SundayTeatime · 17/03/2022 19:14

Yes, I work in the media. I really like wfh. I’d asked for years to wfh and always been denied, and then along came covid and suddenly it was all possible.

Deadivy · 17/03/2022 19:15

I'm in IT wfh full time since Covid started, occasionally miss the office, but love the silence to concentrate, the extra hour in bed, decent lunches, deliveries when I want and use my breaks to do washing etc. Downside is I do more hours than I should & spend more on heating.
Do not miss the commute one bit either!

Hello606 · 17/03/2022 19:22

Yes, event manager.

I will never accept a job again where I’m based in an office

Snap!!! Never worked before men realised the benefit and all went and bought fucking dogs
Nootropical · 17/03/2022 19:27

I have worked from home for 15 years, some freelance work others ft employed, I would not accept a job if I had to go into an office. Mostly worked in various software development jobs and researcher jobs.

Crimblecrumblerules · 17/03/2022 19:27

work from home part time as and when required, usually 23/24 hours a week running a taxi/companionship service. Means i can pop out if i need to (dog walk, daughter college, help my elderly parents) and only need to take the phone with me. Its perfect. Currently have Covid and still working.

PeriodDrama · 17/03/2022 19:49

IT consultant, fully remote, work in many different industries (healthcare atm) but would say across the broad spectrum I work in most people are WFH.

IT it’s been an easy transition to WFH as most teams are scattered all over the world normally, think testers from india, clients in New York so fairly normal

Moody123 · 17/03/2022 19:53

I do 2 days in the office and 3 days at home
Benifits of home is I can do the house work on my lunch ect...
But I miss people, I'd love to go back in full time to be honest

Peachy7 · 17/03/2022 19:55

The company I work for has asked us to go back in all our working days. As a result I'm looking for another job, most offer hybrid working now at the very least, our boss is just old school and doesn't like to move with the times. It's much more convenient WFH at least a couple of days a week.

MurmuratingStarling · 17/03/2022 19:57

Don't want to say as it's quite identifying, (quite unusual job,) but yes I work from home, and I have done for a few years now. Can't imagine EVER going back to the office again. I don't have set hours, and can arrange my own workload as and when I see fit. Works brilliantly for me, and means I can have a life outside of my job. I see friends, and family, every week, and colleagues every month or so for a get-together (although I do have contact in between.)

If I have an appointment (or someone else does who wants me with them/to take them) I can arrange my work so I can do it. Ditto if it's workmen, or tradesmen or deliveries.

I would struggle with a job now, where I would have to go to work/to the office. I don't think I could do it actually.

Bluebuddha10 · 17/03/2022 20:01

Have worked from home for 5 years for a charity. Usually go out and about to lots of meetings, but since covid, it's all online. But hopefully will return to face to face meetings. But I love working from home. Made a spare room into a lovely office space. Its really flexible, great for work life balance. It's great when the weathers rubbish too, no wet, cold miserable commute. Sometimes I go and work in a local cafe for a couple of hours if I fancy a change of scenery. Lunchtime walks in the local park - it just all works really well Smile

orangetriangle · 17/03/2022 20:06

trilbydoll · 17/03/2022 20:09

I'm an accountant. WFH is a nice option to have, I've been at home this week because we all got covid. But it's not for me generally - if I'm not physically at work it's all just numbers on a spreadsheet. I like to see people other than my immediate family too Grin

Lemons1571 · 17/03/2022 20:09

@LubaLuca

I don't like working from home. I appreciate the benefits (saves money, less effort), but the cons outweigh the pros for me. It's isolating, and I've been feeling unhappy and stressed in my own home which has never happened before - it used to be somewhere I looked forward to being at the end of the day, but now I'm looking for ways to get away from it.
When I was fully wfh during the pandemic I found this too. I was literally going to Tesco in my lunchtimes to be around real life people. Didn’t care if they were nice or horrible, strangers or whatever - I didn’t want or need to make friends but I was insanely jealous of the supermarket staff getting to talk to each other in person. Looking back I must’ve felt so isolated and lonely. It crept up on me insidiously as the months and years passed….

I do have a dedicated work area at home though it’s not an office and there’s no door to close. It felt like I was trapped sitting at the desk while various family members came and talked AT me.

Am now hybrid working and I am so much happier.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 17/03/2022 20:11

Civil servant and currently we're doing "blended working". I love it. It's nice to socialise in the office but other days it just feels like nothing is getting done in the office and I'm more productive at home.

I also like that I can get some of the housework done like washing, sorting the dishwasher and dinner getting prepped. It takes a bit of the stress out of my weekend.

TheSunIsStillShining · 17/03/2022 20:12

program manager/BA for a financial institution 1700km away, so wfh full time.
love it! :)
but i have been wfh for the past 20 years and loved it all the time.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 17/03/2022 20:13

HR and I love working from home. I don't ever want to have to go into an office every day again.

It's a huge benefit for me now. I doesn't work for everyone - about 12 years ago I worked from home and found it too isolating at that point. I now have a very different life, and it works well for me.

emwithme · 17/03/2022 20:21

Retail Finance Manager. Go in 1 or 2 days a week, WFH the rest. I only realistically need to go in half a day so some weeks, if I've got a lot of spreadsheet fuckery to do then that's what I do. It's easier to get everything done from home, only DH and the cat to complain about my singing along with the radio and I can wear fluffy slippers.

I do have a full office set up with printer, two screens etc which makes it work well.
