Aibu in being pissed off that mei mei's mum actually offers scented pads as an option.
Why. Recipe for discomfort.

I have literally zero idea what you're talking about

SheldonsStainedSpot · 16/03/2022 21:28

Yabu for even noticing that amount of detail when you should be dying of embarrassment for Mei Mei 😂

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 16/03/2022 21:31

WTF is a Mei Mei??

Copin · 16/03/2022 21:32

Turning Red is the latest Pixar movie.

Porfre · 16/03/2022 21:33

It was an ok movie.

But some of the language is t suit6for younger kids- stripper music, perv

Now my kids are asking what's a stripper

AlisonDonut · 16/03/2022 21:34

Our sky was orange yesterday...Sahara dust cloud. Hope that helps.

Chocolattay · 16/03/2022 21:36

Turning Red is a new cartoon movie out where a character starts her period and there is a scene where the mum brings her lots of period products, for context

FrangipaniBlue · 16/03/2022 22:48

It's rated PG and the rating clearly says "may not be suitable for younger children".

Common sense media suggests age 9+.

OppsUpsSide · 16/03/2022 22:51

I haven’t seen it but all the boys in my class watched it over the weekend and told me how good it was!

MangyInseam · 16/03/2022 22:53

I think the joke is that she offers everything.

Same here in London today.
blubberball · 17/03/2022 02:16

I liked the film and my dc enjoyed it. It mildly hints at puberty, sexual awakening from a female perspective and periods.

Kanaloa · 17/03/2022 02:51

I do get that it’s suggested for bigger kids but things like this always bug me a bit because how many 10/11 year olds are dying to go and watch a Disney Pixar cartoon movie about a girl who turns into a panda?

Although it’s suggested for kids 9 plus it’s clearly aimed at those who are younger.

steff13 · 17/03/2022 03:44

My daughter (11) and her friend (13) watched it over the weekend and loved it. I don't think it's aimed towards younger. They may want to see it because it's a cartoon, but that doesn't make them the target audience.

DaisyTheUnicorn · 17/03/2022 03:55

13 and 10 watched it here. Admittedly 13 assumed it would be rubbish but did stay and watch.

Bits of it didnt make sense to me (and i wanted them all to keep their pandas!)

However I was so impressed I think its the first time I've seen periods openly acknowledged in kids tv. And as a normal thing. My eldest was v impressed apparently first ever pixar directed by a woman....

There were aspects of it I really liked. Complex relationships with a mother, expectations. What makes a "good girl". And other bits just random - giant pandas and the message not to quash all the feelings inside/that thats what family had been doing - yet they go back to quashing!

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 17/03/2022 07:14

It’s listed with 9+ as the age rating - if you choose to let younger children watch it then that’s your choice!

My 11 and 14 year old boys both watched and enjoyed it.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 17/03/2022 07:17

I guess we can go with it was set in the 90s so people were less aware and also had less choice of reusable options.

DD 12 loved it.

Plumbear2 · 17/03/2022 07:22

Its rated 9+ for a reason. If you want to show it to younger kids you should check the content first. My 14 year old loved it.

monkeysox · 17/03/2022 07:41

My 10 year old watched it.

It isn't the period content that I didn't like it was the scented fanny burners that annoyed me.

I'm more surprised the period talk has got this much publicity. I mean we are in 2022 and periods have been happening to females since like forever.

Anyho the main point is Mei Mei doesn't even start her period, it's a misunderstanding as she's turned into a red panda and states "she's changing" which in turn her mother assumes.

Either way it's definitely an older kids movie but it's not worthy of all the up roar

Plumbear2 · 17/03/2022 07:47

We didn't even notice they where scented. They just looked like square packs. The only way you would notice this is if you zoomed in on it. They where only on screen for 10 seconds max so not sure how you noticed. Blink and you missed it.

Ah, I did wonder cos I watched it with my 9yo the other night and spent that scene wondering whether she was understanding the humour in the mix-up rather than what products were offered.

She says “scented” as an option when she’s listing all the products.
Plumbear2 · 17/03/2022 09:00

So scented was an option out of many other products. Why is that a problem? Some people don't have a problem with scented. Since she also mentioned others why is that a problem?

OutlookStalking · 17/03/2022 09:05

The point was she went overboard with all the options. I really don't see the problem.
