Krakow for a getaway. Would you deem it safe or would you not go? Bare in mind the trip is non refundable

I'd go. I don't think they'd risk bombing Poland at the moment.

maddy68 · 16/03/2022 19:48

you know its a different country right? no way would Russia invade Poland the whole world would be on them I would definitely go in fact I am considering it

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 16/03/2022 19:50

If they bomb Poland we will be sending planes over as it’s part of NATO.

Go on your holiday.

pasturesgreen · 16/03/2022 19:59

If they start bombing Poland, we have bigger problems than whether to go on a short break. Personally I'd go.

FellWanderer · 16/03/2022 20:01

We have a week long holiday booked for Poland in May and are definitely still going. Things in Ukraine are not going well for Putin so even if he is planning on invading a Nato country it won't be for some time.

Ps Krakow is a brilliant city!

deadlanguage · 16/03/2022 20:02

I’d go, they are not going to attack a NATO country. Krakow is nowhere near the Ukrainian border either. It’s a lovely city, enjoy the trip!

theemmadilemma · 16/03/2022 20:03

The Polish infrastructure is struggling to cope with the influx of people. I would not go given the conversation I had with my Polish friend yesterday.

Why, what did she say, if you don't mind me asking ? We're meant to be going to near-Krakow in early may to stay with Dh's family.
ItsOnlyWordsInnit · 16/03/2022 20:16

I live pretty close to Poland and am certainly not concerned about Russia bombing us - although it's fairly comforting to know there are all those NATO surveillance planes circling over eastern Poland
However, it's worth bearing in mind that central stations in particular are pretty overwhelmed right now with very traumatised women and children, so you'd want to modify your behaviour accordingly, and you might also find it distressing.

IchabodCrane · 16/03/2022 20:19

It wouldn't be 'dangerous'.
Probably inconvenient. With the number of resources being diverted into emergency help mode, crowding etc etc.

Honestly Poland needs all the money ad jobs right now so not a good idea to cancel. I'd personally cancel if it was refundable but as you've already paid..

FairWindClearSailing · 16/03/2022 20:25

Course it's safe.

blubberyboo · 16/03/2022 20:30

I think it would be shame for people to cancel trips as the Polish economy is bearing so much of the weight of the refugee influx.

It might not be exactly how you imagined it if there are busy train stations etc. or maybe the humanitarian aid is concentrated further east and doesn’t reach Krakow
Could you ring your hotel and ask them if they are still ok and have room to have you. Delicately worded though in case they get offended and assume you think their city is a danger.

saraclara · 16/03/2022 20:36

Absolutely this.

tempester28 · 16/03/2022 20:39

Yes go and support the local economy

Neverendingdust · 16/03/2022 20:49

I wouldn’t go personally. My Polish friend had their flights to Krakow cancelled until May by Jet2 due to drop in demand which likely means people are holding off air travel there.

IwantToDatePicard · 16/03/2022 21:01

We are due to fly out 9th April for a short break. Too late to cancel so unless Easyjet cancel we will be there.

Chocolattay · 16/03/2022 21:04

I’d go. Poland is safe. Russia isn’t going to touch Poland. The only thing I’d be mindful of is protest and demonstrations in major cities.

Chocolattay · 16/03/2022 21:07

Just to elaborate my previous post, may be pro-Ukraine protests going on so try and keep up with local media etc and make sure you don’t get caught up in anything whilst out and about. And even that it’s more of an inconvenience rather than a safety thing. But other than that, perfectly safe.

AChocolateOrangeaday · 16/03/2022 21:11

I’ve just been, it was great.

How close is too close to a war zone? I wouldn't be going personally. Might be a different country but it certainly isn't far from the border.

Disfordragon · 16/03/2022 21:14

Of course it’s not unsafe. We are going for our family summer holiday to another country that borders Ukraine. There is no reason not to go.

Staffymumma · 16/03/2022 21:17

Me and DH were due to go last week for 2 nights, but we cancelled. I suffer really badly with anxiety and it was too worrying for me (DH was slightly concerned too) I know the conflict isn’t there, but it just didn’t sit well with me

110APiccadilly · 16/03/2022 21:26

Like others, I wouldn't be worried about the danger but I'd feel a bit concerned if I might be using up resources (hotel rooms, transport?) that refugees might use.

It’s a couple of hours from the border. Over 150 miles.
