I dont want to watch it myself so can anyone tell me what are the worst scenes please - petering me to watch it as other kids have. Is it very violent?

It’s horrendous. Why don’t you Google it? It’s rating on Netflix is for mature adults only - shouldn’t that tell you something? Hmm

"sexual violence references, injury detail, crude humour, sex, suicide, sexual images, violence".

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 16/03/2022 17:34

Don’t get me wrong, I binge watched and enjoyed it. But I’m 35 years old

Why don’t you tell your child that no means no and just because all his friends have watched it (doubt it!!) doesn’t mean he can?

WeirdlyKind · 16/03/2022 17:35

It's absolutely not suitable for a 13 year old. www.commonsensemedia.org/tv-reviews/squid-game

Krustykrabpizza · 16/03/2022 17:35

It's very violent and disturbing

Debroglie · 16/03/2022 17:37

It’s incredibly violent. I couldn’t watch it and I’m 41!
(I am pathetic though- I saw clockwork orange when Iwas 13 and it really upset me. I also couldn’t make past series 1 of breaking bad because of the violence)

Anonymous48 · 16/03/2022 17:39

I think it was a very clever and well made series, and I enjoyed it, but there's absolutely no way I would let a 13 year old watch it - even if "all his friends have watched it"!

DuckyNoMates · 16/03/2022 17:40

I wouldn't. I wouldn't even watch it myself. The descriptions are enough.

Wrinklefree · 16/03/2022 17:40

My son watched it when he was 12 after DH had gone through it, DS didn’t enjoy it at all.
willstarttomorrow · 16/03/2022 17:40

It is not just about the violence- I think the whole context is not something a 13 year old would get. I am not a parent who sticks rigidly to film age ratings but I do not think 13 is mature enough for Squid Game.

TheLoupGarou · 16/03/2022 17:43

I'm pretty laid back about this sort of thing, but absolutely no way. Very graphic violence, death and sex.

I watched it and it enjoyed it, but it is not for young teens.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 16/03/2022 17:43

I would imagine most 13-year-olds would find it boring, in reality. Yes, there is frequent, if sporadic, violence it's bloody, but cartoonish I would say but large parts of it are conversational, and more about people's motivations and allegiances, and fairly nuanced examination of what it means to be part of society (and excluded from it).

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 16/03/2022 17:44

Not appropriate at all. I really enjoyed it but I'm an adult, it's not a programme for children

SilverCatStripes · 16/03/2022 17:44

Hang on - if it’s something you don’t want to watch it yourself then surely that gives you a clue about its suitability for a 13 year old??

Hospedia · 16/03/2022 17:44

I watched it and found the concept of it very interesting, got emotionally invested too. I'd say I enjoyed it but that implies its a fun watch, it's not.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Content includes:

  • graphic injuries including gun shots, stab wounds, impact injuries, and surgical incisions
  • fatally injured but still living people being sealed into their coffins in preparation for cremation
  • sexual content including characters having sex in a toilet and one character leading another to think they're about to get a blow job
  • casual violence and I mean casual, life in very cheap in this show and very expendable
  • heavy emotional content including characters you've been led to sympathise with dying in horrible ways

Basically it's a shit load of death and examine how far desperate people will go when they're stuck between two shitty choices, how far they'll go in the name of money, and how willingly they'll fuck over their fellow human beings to save their own skin.

Imagine Lord of the Flies crossed with a version of Takeshi's Castle where the guards carry loaded weapons and all of the booby traps are real.

daisyjgrey · 16/03/2022 17:45

🤦🏼‍♀️

Lennon80 · 16/03/2022 17:46

Okay thanks everyone it’s a big fat NO then!

And I'd take it with a pinch if salt that "all of my friends are watching it". DS once told all of his friends he'd watched Deadpool when he'd done no such thing.

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 16/03/2022 17:47

I watched it, then allowed my 14yo to watch it.

I didn't find it horrifically violent and disturbing at all. There obviously is violence in it, but it isn't all that bad imo.

I allow my teen dc to watch films with violence in the context of a much wider story, I don't allow the torture porn films which are simply about violence.

We had lots of discussions about the programme afterwards that were very interesting and dc raised some really good points so it was a great learning process for my dc.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 16/03/2022 17:47

I watched it, I enjoyed it but it would definitely be a no from me.

Calandor · 16/03/2022 17:48

Idk depends on the kid. I'd have been fine with it at 13 but it is very mature

Pugfostermum · 16/03/2022 17:48

Threads like these make me so sad for children who have parents with no interest in protecting them from unsuitable content. Things seen, can never be unseen.

These children’s brains are still growing and developing.
Why, why, why would you make the choice for them to watch it?

CantChatNow · 16/03/2022 17:50

My 12 year old is absolutely not allowed to watch, and won’t be for a while. It’s very violent, not appropriate at all.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 16/03/2022 17:50

Haha this has always been a thing, hasn't it? When I was at school it was Aliens that 'everyone' claimed to have watched, but almost no one actually had.
Ladyrattles · 16/03/2022 17:50

Definitely a no. It's disturbing on many levels as well as violent. We really enjoyed it as a family but my kids are 18+ I wouldn't have let them see it pre-16

FuckThatBullshit · 16/03/2022 17:50

Very violent
