I dont want to watch it myself so can anyone tell me what are the worst scenes please - petering me to watch it as other kids have. Is it very violent?

It’s probably the most violent thing I’ve seen. It’s not suitable for kids.

carefullycourageous · 16/03/2022 17:54

Parents need to know that the level of violence is very intense in Squid Game. Characters are systematically tortured and killed for the sadistic pleasure of a game master. Adults have sex, and there are threats of sexual violence: Women are grabbed by the hair and beaten. Themes concerning the highs one gets from gambling, winning, or conning money are a main focus.

Er, not for a 13yo, no

SummerHouse · 16/03/2022 17:54

Children badgering can be very annoying. I think it's basically FoMO. I let my 10 yr old watch one episode of Rick and Morty (highly inappropriate cartoon). We watched it together on the understanding that this would be the only episode he watched. I watched it in advance before I made the offer. Then we discussed why it was inappropriate. Not sure this is good parenting but he agreed it was inappropriate and the godforsaken badgering has stopped.

ForeverSingle881 · 16/03/2022 17:55

It's the most gory and violent series I've watched. No way should a 13 year old should watch it.

SlashBeef · 16/03/2022 17:55

Nope. Stick to your boundary. I feel sorry for the kids who are exposed to this crap by their "cool" parents. Teachers take a very dim view of it too.

Lennon80 · 16/03/2022 17:56

@Pugfostermum

Threads like these make me so sad for children who have parents with no interest in protecting them from unsuitable content. Things seen, can never be unseen.

These children’s brains are still growing and developing.
Why, why, why would you make the choice for them to watch it?

Well that doesn’t make any sense does it- I’ve come on to ask if it’s appropriate- everyone said no- so he’s not watching it!

Try getting off your high horse…

No way. It’s quite distressing.

Yes me too and I sometimes say to my kids that I think the parents who say yes are not kinder. I also remind them they will be adults one day quite soon and can choose everything for themselves then.
CantStandMeCow · 16/03/2022 17:59

No. And I’m so pissed off that kids watch this crap and bring it all back into school. It’s so inappropriate.

Pugfostermum · 16/03/2022 18:03

@Lennon80 I’m referring to the parents who have allowed their children to watch.

Anonymous48 · 16/03/2022 18:09

@Lennon80

I assumed @Pugfostermum was talking about those parents on this thread who have admitted to letting their children watch it, not parents such as yourself who wouldn't let them watch it without first determining its suitability.

XelaM · 16/03/2022 18:12

I watched it with my kid of similar age and most of her friends have seen it. She loved it Blush

Snaketime · 16/03/2022 18:13

@WeDontShutUpAboutBruno

I watched it, then allowed my 14yo to watch it.

I didn't find it horrifically violent and disturbing at all. There obviously is violence in it, but it isn't all that bad imo.

I allow my teen dc to watch films with violence in the context of a much wider story, I don't allow the torture porn films which are simply about violence.

We had lots of discussions about the programme afterwards that were very interesting and dc raised some really good points so it was a great learning process for my dc.

You really didn't find it violent? I watched it (don't get me wrong I thoroughly enjoyed it) but I thought it was incredibly violent and I am a massive Saw fan.
Hoppinggreen · 16/03/2022 18:13

No, I didn’t let mine watch it
We had an email from school asking us not to as well

SexiestDogWalker · 16/03/2022 18:16

I bet most of his mates have watched some porn too. Are you going to give a thumbs up to that?

It's 'mature adults only' for a reason

Campervangirl · 16/03/2022 18:21

I've watched it, it was really gory and I wouldn't recommend it.
That said, it was recommended to me by my 13 yr old dn, not sure my sister realised her DD has watched it or maybe is unaware how bad it is

MrsGHarrison87 · 16/03/2022 18:22

My 13 year old has seen it, I didn't know until after he'd watched it. He hasn't been negatively affected by it and said it wasn't that bad. Depends on the child. If he's of a delicate disposition and likely to have nightmares for 6 months then no. But I'm sure a teenager is capable of switching off if they aren't comfortable.

Halllyup17 · 16/03/2022 18:54

My 13 year old watched it and enjoyed it. I haven't watched any of it. It's had no effect on her, but she was already into horror/dark stuff.

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 16/03/2022 19:21

I can't watch Saw films at all, and I definitely wouldn't allow those for my 14yo as its violence for the sake of it imo, but I didn't find squid games that bad. There obviously is violence, but I didn't find it too graphic or particularly realistic.

otemporaomores · 16/03/2022 19:50

I’ve seen worse at that age tbh. Wouldn’t say boo to a goose and can’t say I’m traumatised. Squid game isn’t even too drastic anyway.

CatsArePeople · 16/03/2022 19:53

I did it with my 13yo together a few months ago. Bring on the pearl clutching. But it was "the thing" trending at the moment and they were watching clips on each other's phones at school. Now done and forgotten.

Xpologog · 16/03/2022 20:05

No way. It’s awful. Very disturbing.

Popcornriver · 16/03/2022 20:05

I'd imagine it's true a lot of 13 - 14 year olds have watched it, wasn't it rated a 15 when it first released?
