Does this really warrant A+E?

On Sunday DH (35) was running round the garden with our 4yo and his cousins. He jarred his back and it was sore Sunday night and really sore all day Monday. Monday pm he was feeling ill, tired and achey and went to bed. Today he's woken up iller than he's ever felt. He has chills, high temp of 38.6 and a horrible taste in his mouth. He has slept all day. Negative covid test.
We used 111 for advice and a 111 operator called him and told him to go to A+E within the hour.

We are a bit 🤔 do you think it really warrants A+E?

Just go to a and e as advised to get bloods and vitals done. Peace of mind?

TinaYouFatLard · 15/03/2022 22:33

Obviously I’m not saying he should ignore advice, but what part of the OP’s description is indicating sepsis as opposed to flu or similar?

My local hospital A&E is actually posting on social media asking people not to come unless they are in a life threatening condition.

BurntO · 15/03/2022 22:40

111 always tell us to go to A&E. Not sure what their job is supposed to be. I’ve had to specifically ask for ambulances not to be sent and for an OOH appointment instead. No one here can advise you any better really. Seems unlikely the two things are related but what do I know. Hope he feels better soon OP

the OP does not need to puzzle it out, or justify why it might be x, y, or z.
they have rung 111, who give medical advice, and been told to go to A&E.
that's it. that's enough. further hypothetical speculation is irrelevant.
don't delay. go now.
good luck.

That's how I felt with covid especially the horrible taste. I didn't test positive till 2 days later

alexdgr8 · 15/03/2022 22:44

some of these comments are dangerous.
by the time a patient or their relative is fairly sure that it probably is sepsis, it may be too late, at least to emerge with all parts unamputated.
i know whereof i speak. not a medic. seen it close up. galloping. twice.

Go to A&E! Four weeks ago I had a sleepless night with abdomen pain, by morning I felt so sick I could barely move my head. My son rang the doctor and it was her who actually rang the ambulance purely from my sons description of how I was. I was still insisting I didn't want to go to A&E...and my sons and the paramedics told me in no uncertain terms that that was exactly where I was going! Thank God they did....turned out I had a gallbladder infection and sepsis and spent 12 days in hospital . In future if I'm told I need A&E...I'm going!!

How is he in himself?

Is he peeing normally?

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend if there has been recent trauma then you are considered being at risk for sepsis. High temperature is also a sign of sepsis. As a pharmacist we have to do a sepsis course every year and this is the first thing they drill into your head.
