Would you be bothered to do a 2 hour club after work?

Work a 9 hour shift, then get in around 5:45pm. It's a local class that's 7:30-9:30pm.

I feel like i should be putting in the effort but I just can't be bothered with a 2 hour club after a day at work, plus I've got shopping and cooking to do

I don't need to go to bed until around 11:30pm but I like having time at home. If it were an hour class I'd be much more likely. Would you do it?

Back in work 9am tomorrow too

It totally depends the time of year for me. Right now I’d struggle but as the nights get lighter yes I would.

Also working from home has made me lazier, leaving home to go somewhere at night is a drag, Whilf I’d just stay in the office to get to the class at the right time before thst.

Longingforatikihut · 14/03/2022 19:45

Depends on the club. Fitness and exercise, no. But I could sit having a chat in a knitting circle or similar.

StopFeckingFaffing · 14/03/2022 19:49

It would depend how much I want to participate in the activity and also whether there is flexibility to dip in and out or whether you are expected to attend every week

If it was something I really enjoyed then yes I would go

FreezyFreezy · 14/03/2022 19:52

I go to a club on a Monday evening most weeks. If I'm tired, cba or otherwise busy then I don't bother but I go most weeks.

AngelinaFibres · 14/03/2022 19:59

I used to do evening classes after work. They were 2 hours. I found it was okay as long as ,when I got in from work, I had a shower and dressed in the clothes I was going out in and had something hot for tea so I had plenty of energy. Beans on toast is fine. No need for a full roast dinner. I also had to make sure I kept moving. If I lit the fire and sat on the sofa to watch the news I would fall asleep. Once I got there I loved it. I was always glad I had done it and the skills have come in very ,very handy.

Well if I really wanted to - I've done pottery classes at night in the past after work. If it was exercise then probably not. Saturday six hour workshops work best for me.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 14/03/2022 20:01

Nope, not for me - not long-term, anyway.

IrishMamaMia · 14/03/2022 20:03

I've done some in the past and really enjoyed them. Have two kids and a commute now and usually only do an evening activity if I don't have work the next day.

FrownedUpon · 14/03/2022 20:03

Yes I would. It’s what makes life interesting. I’d find it so dull to just stay in the house every evening.

ImInStealthMode · 14/03/2022 20:05

Depends what it is.

Film club, sitting on my bum with popcorn, maybe. 2 hour gym class, no chance.

LadyMacduff · 14/03/2022 20:06

Depends how important it is to you. If it's something you're really passionate about then it would be enriching and important. If you don't really care then it will be a nuisance.

There's lots of things you can do in the evening that don't mean signing up for a two-hour class, though.
Lilac57 · 14/03/2022 20:08

Nope. 1 hour yes, 2 most definitely not.

TravellingFrom · 14/03/2022 20:12

It depends what it is for

  • a class that will allow me to apply for a better paid job etc… yes no hesitation
  • a class on something I really enjoy. Again yes I would.
  • a class for something I feel I ought to do but aren’t really keen on? Nope.
Anoisagusaris · 14/03/2022 20:13

Depends on other commitments eg kids. I wouldn’t plan on shopping the same evening….couldn’t you plan that better? Who are you cooking for? If you planned it properly you could do something quick or prepared the previous day.

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/03/2022 20:16

Could you leave half way? I sometimes do that for a two hour evening club I do on a Monday night.

lottiegarbanzo · 14/03/2022 20:19

Well yes, if I wanted to, no if I didn't.

What's your point?

Ilkleymoor · 14/03/2022 20:25

Do it, life can get so closed otherwise. Plus doing something creative that I enjoy really wakes me up.

Accountancy, excel spreadsheets, any form of exercise noooooooo. Floristry, screen printing with like minded ,creative people absolutely. Absolutely nothing wrong with the top 3 but my brain would not cope with anything to do with maths after a day at work. Practical stuff a fabulous way to wind down
5foot5 · 14/03/2022 21:00

Well it all comes down to how much you want to do it.

I go to band practice one evening a week and that lasts two hours. Some dark cold nights when I am tired it takes an effort to go out but I am always glad I have done it.

Having said that maybe it depends what your other domestic commitments are. I don't think I could have managed it with very young DC, DD was an older teenager when I started doing this.

ManateeFair · 14/03/2022 21:08

I mean… it just depends on whether it’s something you enjoy enough to make the effort worthwhile? I’d do it if I thought I’d enjoy it. I wouldn’t if I thought it would be a massive chore. I don’t really see any dilemma.

DuesToTheDirt · 14/03/2022 21:12

When I was younger I did, e.g. for art classes - you need 2 hrs really to get anything done. Now I'm older probably not.

NumberTheory · 14/03/2022 21:22

A class doing what?

I do like doing things mid-week, otherwise I get to the weekend and it feels like my life is just drudgery for 5 days and then recovery for two! If I have a class or something in the week I feel much better in general, though the day itself might feel a bit rushed.

In general I want anything like that to be straight after work, so I head there before I go home. If I had to go home do family stuff and then go out again I don't think the general uplift from the activity would be enough to get me out of the house. If I could do something else in the gap without having to go home (even if it's just sit in a coffee shop for an hour) I would prefer that over going home and going out again. But then if you have kids at home you have to have someone covering that extra time too.

Sandsnake · 14/03/2022 21:43

Yep, definitely depends on how much you want to do it. I play a sport once a week after work, which is 90 mins and entails me being out of the house from around 19.15 - 21.15. I commute into London so have quite a long day beforehand. I get home, have 20 minutes to have a quick snack and then have to put the kids to bed as quickly as possible and then leave. It’s a slog and I only do it because I really, really enjoy it - no chance if it was something I was more meh about, even if it was good for me!

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 14/03/2022 22:09

I do a 2 hour choir rehearsal one evening a week, with a half hour cycle each way to get there. I can't deny it's a slog sometimes, but I do love it and I never regret going once I'm there.
