Thanks Tesco. Dear Mum, happy Mother's Day, have some comfy PJ's and some self love. Who doesn't want to have a wank on Mothering Sunday?

I'm 40 and have always thought self-love = masturbation. I have had many a good laugh at the recent rash of positivity clothing Grin

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 14/03/2022 17:51

I agree with op too. Wouldn't think it meant anything else.

phishy · 14/03/2022 17:55

Urgh, get your mind out of the gutter.

MrsGHarrison87 · 14/03/2022 17:59

Everyone knows self love is about having a hot bath, face mask, moisturising your body and then a good wank.

Onlyforcake · 14/03/2022 18:03

Whenever I hear someone fairly hippy drippy talking about self love I do tend to internally snigger. I tend to use a teenage test on things. If my teenagers don't snigger it's probably not going to look like a euphemism.

Gynaesaur · 14/03/2022 18:05

Whichever way you've interpreted it (and "self love" has been a pretty well established euphemism for masturbation at least since I was a teenager) , what an utterly shit thing to have on a T-shirt. Who buys crap like this? At best, it's the sort of thing you get if you've gone away somewhere and forgotten pyjamas.

Coincidentally I am off to Tesco now with my teenager. Challenge accepted
Spermysextowel · 14/03/2022 18:08

There used to be a Giorgio Armani Si advert in which Cate Blanchett says ‘see to myself’ which always provoked sniggers from my sons. And from me.

HELLITHURT · 14/03/2022 18:11

@Tlollj

No nor me. Thought it was a bubble bath and a glass of something.
Snap!

I always PMSL at that one. Clearly I have the humour of a teenage boy haha.
Everydayimhuffling · 14/03/2022 18:14

I'm so surprised that anyone English hasn't heard of self love as a euphemism for wanking! Where have you all been?!

MazzleDazzle · 14/03/2022 18:15

I was looking for a jumper for work recently and M&S had something similar.

I work in a secondary school, so there’s no fucking way I could wear something like that!

Because self-love primarily means improving your self-esteem, well-being etc.

Here are 12 top self-love books. Guess how many are about wanking? Zero.

If self-love means wanking to people that’s fine, but that’s not the general meaning.

sweatervest · 14/03/2022 18:24

i am pmsl at that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe they're going to do a deal and you can get some batteries to go with the eurgh tshirt for 8p with your clubcard.

Here are some pearls for some of you to clutch whilst you stay at home, netflix and chill.

wow i learn sth new today

JaneJeffer · 14/03/2022 18:45

Well this thread has given me a whole new perspective on "love thy neighbour as thyself".

Twopenny · 14/03/2022 18:55

Even if you didn't know it's a popular euphemism for wanking, who wants a T-shirt with 'Self Love' written on it? It either reads as "I love me Smile" which, well, congrats on your self-esteem there, bud. Or it reads as "I am trying to love myself" in which case, good luck and I wish you well, but I'm not sure what I can do as a bystander. Or perhaps you're ordering me to love myself, which is not something anyone but me needs to get involved in, ta.

Oh God, there was a time when I thought Netflix and chill meant binge watching The Crown in my jammies with a bag of Doritoes and a bottle of wine, so when my boss asked me what my Friday evening plans were that's what I told her it was doing 🤦.

The worst thing is, that's not the most embarrassing thing I ever did / said there.

Cocycola · 14/03/2022 19:15

HmmHmmHmmHmm

username9871028 · 14/03/2022 19:18

Ermmmmm, kind of weird that you read that and the first thing that came to your mind was..

Ski4130 · 14/03/2022 19:19

Self care = bubble bath/time out/doing something nice for yourself.

Self love = well, exactly what OP said Smile

The two are quite different!

MichelleScarn · 14/03/2022 19:19

@theweedonkey 😆 that's brilliant! When did you realise?!

WonderfulYou · 14/03/2022 19:25

Self love means love yourself - if that means having a wank to you then crack on but many other people love themselves in other ways too.

Self care aka taking care of yourself sounds more wanky to me but I still wouldn’t associate if it was a on a t-shirt as most things have double meanings.
