does it make the garage damp? I can't dry my clothes inside on a clothes horse because the house gets damp. Any tips please?

Any you dry them outside in this weather, they’ll dry well.

*can

Or use a dehumidifier inside or a heated airer, some people love those. I didn’t get on with ours.

Els1e · 14/03/2022 07:49

I put them in the bathroom with window open a bit.

LizzieMacQueen · 14/03/2022 07:49

I wouldn't have thought clothes would dry without heat or a flow of fresh air stuck in your garage. You can get clothes driers with rain protectors for outside. I'll see if I can find one for you.

leiaskye · 14/03/2022 07:50

The garage would be too cold to dry clothes in, mine certainly would be.

Lakeland sell heated airers. I have one for my spare room which is basically the drying room in my house. Even when I don’t use that though, the room has never got damp.

Opening a window and/or using a dehumidifier would possibly help, too.

We have a big clothes horse on wheels. I can put it in the garden then bring it in if it starts to rain, or I can move it in front of a radiator until we need that space. It's great.

RewildingAmbridge · 14/03/2022 07:52

Dehumidifier has been a game changer for us, also putting the clothes horses in the bathroom when the heated floor is on

LizzieMacQueen · 14/03/2022 07:53

I haven't got on myself but I found this for £30.

In the greenhouse!

BluerThanRobinsEggs · 14/03/2022 08:11

How drafty is your garage? Ours is drafty but there's no daylight.

Have you got a carport? A guy I used to work with built his wife a car port so she could dry washing outside in all weathers, the total romantic that he was.

SickAndTiredAgain · 14/03/2022 08:21

You’ll be able to just dry in the garden pretty soon (if you avoid washing on days where it will rain all day!).

Our garage wouldn’t work, as it’s cold and a bit musty etc so the clothes would probably smell a bit. We dry clothes in our south facing bedroom (so gets quite warm even with winter sun), windows open/dehumidifier on. The room doesn’t get damp at all. But we’ll be drying outside soon anyway.

NoSquirrels · 14/03/2022 08:24

But a dehumidifier. Ours was less than £100 from Screwfix 5 years ago and still going strong.

Pyewhacket · 14/03/2022 08:27

There’s no room in our garage. My husbands keeps his toys in there.

TibetanTerrah · 14/03/2022 08:29

Someone i know did this and routinely brought spiders in with the washing Shock

Why does the house get damp? I live in a tiny flat but ventilate it properly. I actually put the airer in the bath, the bathroom has no window and its still dry in a day or so just from the fan when I turn the light on.

a12356777 · 14/03/2022 08:30

Heated airer ? I absolutely love mine I have no tumble dryer and I don’t need one because of my airer. Although I’m not sure if it’s any good for a damp house still ? Get a de humidifier aswel?

girlmom21 · 14/03/2022 08:31

@eatsleeplaugh

In the greenhouse!
Wouldn't the clothes smell and go musty? It's not like free air-flow is it - more like stagnant air.
elbea · 14/03/2022 08:35

Dry it in the smallest room with the door closed with a dehumidifier running or a window open.

msbevvy · 14/03/2022 08:35

My late mother in law used to do this as she refused to have a tumble dryer and the garden was on another level.

Her washing dried surprisingly quickly and no damp problems in the garage.

Yerroblemom1923 · 14/03/2022 08:39

In the winter a clothes horse indoors or hang on radiators for smalls. It's not ideal but can't always use the outdoor line in winter. Other months we time our washing days according to weather forecast.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 14/03/2022 08:41

I wouldn't as our garage is dark and damp.

Put the clothes horse in the bathroom with a dehumidifier running.

TopCatsTopHat · 14/03/2022 08:43

Our garage has a good through draught so no damp at all. It all depends on the ventilation.

Yes you can, just get two or three so you have space between the items put them near a radiator if possible. I hang blouses etc on hangers from the curtain poles in a window that gets the sun, an£ had a radiator below

Drys overnight

B6 getting an extra clothes horse and spreading out the rest it drys overnight. If necessary leave the window slightly open

Chloemol · 14/03/2022 09:04

Sorry I mean yes you can dry indoors

TravellingFrom · 14/03/2022 09:10

More or less all our clothes are drying outside.
You don’t need full sunshine. Even if it’s damp but you have a bit of wind, it will dry.
I can usually count on my two hands the number if times we’ve had to put things to dry inside.
