@Thatsnotmygame Oh yeah, by that definition it’s a made-up job. Once you get past a certain income there’s a whole host of nonsense jobs designed to just spend money on because if you’ve got it, spend it. Very very few jobs are necessary to keep the world turning.

Lou98 · 14/03/2022 19:22

Some of these are in no way "made up" jobs. If someone is earning enough money from something to do it as a career, they must be doing something right surely?

I feel like this is just a nasty thread to make people feel bad about themselves if they chose a career outside what you consider "worthwhile".

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see why else you would start a thread like this if it isn't to put others down

SoManyQuestionsHere · 14/03/2022 19:28

Animal communicator / spiritual consultant (for businesses, that is)

Yes, both the same person.

@Webshite - I'd just call them extreme cleaners.

Cazziebo · 14/03/2022 19:57

Project Champion is often a title for Project Manager, which is very much a real job!

pointless12345 · 14/03/2022 20:02

NHS have put money in lifestyle coaches to come into Gp surgeries. It's honestly so pointless and wasted money. Also social prescriber, someone who tells patients who to ring if they feel lonely, gives out CAB number, housing issues. Another pointless NHS waste of money.

bumbledeedum · 14/03/2022 20:03

Could get a pile on for this but anyone 'working' in hypnobirthing.

SpinsForGin · 14/03/2022 20:04

@Gonnagetgoing

A few of these eg life and career coaches well I know one woman who has a very successful company doing career coaching (also life coaching).

I know someone else who does soul plan therapy, is a dhoula and also does dance teaching.

Erm Career coach is an actual job. It's a profession with professional qualifications and a professional body which validates the qualifications which go up to master level.
MaxPowerOverkill · 14/03/2022 20:04

To be honest I'd absolutely pay an interior designer if I had the money. I have not one creative bone in my body and haven't got a clue how to put nice things together. I also really struggle to buy say cushions from one shop, then go into another and know what curtains would go with them. I just can't picture it. You'd think the likes of Pinterest would help, but they don't just give you a shopping list and tell you to crack on and that's what I need!

Cbes · 14/03/2022 20:10

That’s absolutely not what a social prescriber does (if yours do, they need sacking). Social prescribing (done properly) has been shown in research to have fantastic outcomes, including reduction in medication usage and fewer hospital admissions.

Yep. Totally agree.
LaQuern · 14/03/2022 20:13

Bio resonance therapist

JeepSleeHack · 14/03/2022 20:16

Most of these jobs are real.

I am guessing everyone is aiming for humour, but it comes across as ignorant and condescending.

Not pointless at all. As @ineedsun said they do way more than that.

Given how much social medicine takes place nowadays a good social prescriber can ease the pressures on clinical staff hugely. GPs and NPs don’t need to be getting involved with housing issues, medication management issues, social support, public service signposting, benefits advice etc.

But made-up jobs do that too. Look at Younique and other bollocks MLMs, they’ll all claim to be part of the professional MLM body, “presenters” “qualify” to “purple status” and other nonsense.

ButtockUp · 14/03/2022 20:22

Most job titles with the word 'consultant' in front of it. ( other than medical, obviously.)

CapMarvel · 14/03/2022 20:23

All jobs are made up.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 14/03/2022 20:28

@Porridgeislife

Companies that query service charges for you

Not a made up job. Potentially can save you thousands particularly if you are, say, a tenant in an office building and paying hundreds of thousands a year.

Interior designer

Not a made up job. Interior designers don’t just decorate homes, they also design interiors for office buildings and workplaces and are as important as the building architect in terms of the end user’s comfort and experience.

Service charge companies should be banned, you can do it yourself for a fraction of the price. I used to deal with them on a regular basis and would get questions like 'You charged 50p for Christmas decorations this year, when did you last buy tinsel? Did you really need new baubles?' And then offering to have a meeting to discuss it so that they could charge huge amounts per hour.
RaraRachael · 14/03/2022 20:31

Mindfulness mentor - no idea what that is.

Influencer - I find it sad that people hang on every word and are actually influenced by people who document every minute of their boring lives on Instagram. I know someone who does this and I can't think why she thinks anyone cares about her timelapse videos of tidying the house, "Ask me anything about my holiday in Dubai" or pieces to camera showing just how needy and desperate for attention she is Hmm
