To take your own teabags to freinds/family's houses

Abit of a lighthearted one...

Ever since having my DDs my taste buds for tea have dramatically changed and I can only tolerate only one type of teabag. Anything else makes me feel so sick its not worth drinking. I take my own teabags to people's houses. Everyone thinks I'm weird. I know I'm weird.

Does anyone else do this?

YABU - no I wouldn't take teabags
YANBU - yes I would/do take teabags

I do because I only drink peppermint tea and I only like one brand.

TonkaTruckduck · 11/03/2022 17:22

I drink decaf Earl Grey, which I'd never expect anyone to have in. I carry a stash in a zip lock bag in my handbag. No one has called me weird so far.

DingDongDenny · 11/03/2022 17:25

Me too Tonka

People sometimes take the piss about my 'special tea' but then I'm Irish and I grew up with tea that was boiled until it looked like tar, so I am an outlier

BluerThanRobinsEggs · 11/03/2022 17:27

I have done in the past and good friends/family would get it in anyway. I'm only talking PG tips rather than Typhoo, my tastes are not odd.

Shoxfordian · 11/03/2022 17:28

I don’t but I wouldn’t mind if someone did bring their own

LilacPaisley · 11/03/2022 17:29

I carry decaff teabags everywhere. Nobody I know seems to use them. Even some small cafes don't have them.

RandomBasic · 11/03/2022 17:31

If you take them to friends houses, fine.
If you go to a cafe, pay the price for tea but ask for hot water only.

ReadyToMoveIt · 11/03/2022 17:31

We don’t drink tea so anyone who knows us well and visits tends to bring their own teabags! We try to remember to have some in for guests but if they run out we often forget to replace.
I wouldn’t think it weird at all.

eddiemairswife · 11/03/2022 17:33

I knew of someone who would take her own milk to a friend's house. because the friend only had sterilised milk.

crosstalk · 11/03/2022 17:36

I keep as many teas as I can for visitors. However I'm not a cafe. So if they want to bring their own decaf Lady Grey and their own choice of milk I'm happy. I certainly wouldn't think they were peculiar. Similarly I take my own food (pescatarian) if my hosts aren't planning to do something that suits me but does suit all their other guests. Or I just eat the veg provided.

MIL always carries her own teabags in her bag as she only drinks decaf/herbal teas. I don’t find it odd at all, it’s the same as I will sometimes bring my own oat milk (I am allergic to cows milk) if I know I’m going to want a coffee and don’t expect people to keep things in just for me (except my parents of course 😂)

Chely · 11/03/2022 17:42

I often take my own decafe as barely anybody we visit has any.

Everydayimhuffling · 11/03/2022 17:49

I don't any more as I've got more used to ordinary tea, but I used to. A couple of friends do, sometimes leaving a few teabags for themselves for next time. Helpful, I think, if you drink something unusual or very specific.

TeenPlusCat · 11/03/2022 17:58

Oh absolutely I do.

Mama1980 · 11/03/2022 17:58

Not at all weird. I drink Turkish apple tea and carry a supply of it with me - no issues with anyone thinkings it's odd yet.

Gilly12345 · 11/03/2022 18:00

I have a friend who brings her own fruit flavoured tea bags, I don’t mind, whatever rocks your boat and as long as she is happy.

8dpwoah · 11/03/2022 18:02

If you know them well enough to take tea with you then they know you well enough to not be offended by it, surely? Wouldn't bother me in the slightest, I've taken decaff with me to family when pregnant as I wouldn't expect them to keep some in especially!

latetothefisting · 11/03/2022 18:03

I mean personally I would just not have tea if I was visiting someone and have a glass of water or whatever else instead. Surely you can go an hour or two without a cuppa? Plus if you're now that fussy about teabags surely they could still ruin your perfect tea by putting too much/little/the wrong type of milk in, giving it to you in a rubbish cup, leaving it too long/not long enough to brew...easier to just leave it!

Saying that I wouldn't be offended if someone brought their own teabags to mine...

ShowOfHands · 11/03/2022 18:06

It's fine.

PPs would be happy at mine as I have decaf earl grey (bagged and loose leaf) as well as many other options. I'd be happy if a friend brought their own and would be interested in what they'd brought.

My mum brings skimmed milk when she visits. Not for her, for my dad. I pretend I've used it.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/03/2022 18:07

I am amazed to find im not the only person who can't tolerate tea after pregnancy!

I take my own and most of my friends know that I bring my own drinks so that its something I can drink without becoming ill.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 11/03/2022 18:10

I used to take tea bags to my friends house, she only drank earl grey or mellow birds coffee neither of which I like. I wouldn't be offended if someone brought their tea bags to mine.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 11/03/2022 18:11

I always take my own, as I have decaf. Nobody minds.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/03/2022 18:11

I don't do it myself, but I have friends who rock up with decaf teabags or green tea. My brother and his wife have been known to bring peppermint tea. It harms nobody and everyone enjoys their drink.

Isseywith3witchycats · 11/03/2022 18:13

i take tea bags if im going down my oldest sons house as he only drinks coffee and i dont
