AIBU to have found the 2 best diets ever that WORK?

That's it. I now have the formula for successful and doable weight loss. Here they are, there are 2 methods that I can say absolutely work. But please don't tell me that "they don't work because people often put all the weight back on" - it's not the fault of the diet; diets will only work if you stick with them.

  1. Fast 800 Keto After 7 days - 2" lost from my waist; down by a dress size; suddenly regained a lot of formerly worn clothes. Pros - fast results, very motivating Has science behind it so has integrity (Dr Mosley and his GP wife) The food recipes are easy to prepare and the food is gorgeous - I'm so enjoying the food.

Cons - the first phase is hard as though the food is excellent, the portions are small (but you do get used to it after the first week or so).

  1. Slimming World Pros - allows you to eat a diet where no foods are excluded, so you can tailor it to personal requirements eg incorporate a bit of alcohol, chocolate, etc you get my drift. Easy to follow - no need to count calories.

Cons - weight loss is invariably slower eg average loss for me a few years ago was 1 - 2 lbs a week.

I did SW a few years ago, lost nearly 2 stone and then Covid hit so no meetings or weigh ins to help keep me on track. And then I did all the Covid stuff too eg lots of baking and bread making (and put over half of the weight back on).

Currently now on Fast 800 Keto to shift the aforementioned weight gain.

You can’t do fast 800 keto forever though can you? Would be very restrictive?

Looneytune253 · 07/03/2022 11:01

Come on, can't you see how the post sounds? Yes you'll lose weight on any diet but it always comes back unless you eat that way forever. Eat healthily for fueling your body and see where you get with that. No more yo yo dieting.

PinotPony · 07/03/2022 11:02

Yes you're BU because you're confusing dieting with consistent healthy eating. Diets don't work.

Yep agree!! They clearly don’t work because here you are needing another diet! The diet industry is worth billions, it needs to create this success/fail cycle for its business model.
ShirleyPhallus · 07/03/2022 11:13

Lol at slimming world. A “diet” which allows unlimited pasta / potatoes / sugary yoghurts isn’t really encouraging healthy eating.

Peoniesandcream · 07/03/2022 11:14

Losing weight slowly by increasing exercise and eating a lot healthier is the only way to maintain weight loss. It's a change of lifestyle that works, not a fast restrictive diet.

BabbleBee · 07/03/2022 11:15

YABU for quoting Mosley as a reliable source, but also for promoting two ‘diets’ that are well known for not being sustainable or in the best interests of overall health and well being.

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 07/03/2022 11:16

Is fast keto 800 free to find ?:L

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 07/03/2022 11:17

Everytime I try find a diet plan to lose 10lbs I end up needing to pay x 5 that in £ =(

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 07/03/2022 11:18

I’ll bet 99 per cent of diets that have ever been been published work for the majority of people.

Everyone knows what “diets don’t work” actually means - it’s when you stop following the rules that the diet doesn’t work anymore.

You have to find a way of eating that works for you.

MorrisZapp · 07/03/2022 11:20

800 a day is simply impossible for most working people, I'd have thought.

Of course a severe calorie restriction will produce quick results, but this relies on being able to stick to it.

I don't think I could do one day on 800, never mind weeks of it.

Surely common sense tells you that you can't eat unlimited amounts of pasta/potatoes/sugary yogurts, they may be 'free' but that doesn't mean unlimited.

I do WW, I've lost 5 stone by following what's called the Core Plan and consists of lots of zero point foods which aren't free because they are zero, but should be eaten in moderation

NoSquirrels · 07/03/2022 11:21

Every weight-loss diet works if you follow it to the letter.

It’s whether long-term it’s a sustainable way of eating that allows you to keep the weight off that counts.

It’s an odd post so I can’t say YABU, but really - your thinking is a bit odd on this.

Tink1989 · 07/03/2022 11:22

If SW is so successful why the need to go onto keto?

Diets are just money making schemes that can be detrimental to peoples mental health and foster unhealthy relationships around food

Yep that's what I've done over the past year. The weight loss has been slow and steady and I'm in danger of going back to old habits but I can keep to it without feeling too controlled/ deprived! Portion size esp carbs was key for me (ate pretty healthy food anyway). I feel really uncomfortable if I overeat now.
ShirleyPhallus · 07/03/2022 11:26

Yes common sense would tell you that, but if these plans are so successful they’d do themselves out of business as everyone would lose weight and keep it off.

Softpebbles · 07/03/2022 11:26

Surely you don’t need any of those to help you lose weight. Neither are particularly sustainable - you can’t continue on such low calories for time and slimming world you surely don’t want to be paying someone to weigh you every week forever.

Surely just awareness is the best way - know what calories you need to fuel your body, know what calories are what you are eating in your food. If you are putting on weight you are eating too much and not moving enough?! All diets ultimately work on calories in v’s calories out. Low carb diets will give you a bigger loss to begin with as you won’t be holding on to water.

RonCarlos · 07/03/2022 11:28

Good luck OP.

Portion size is my issue, and snacking between meals. (Especially cheese). Mid-week drinking. More exercise. It's not rocket science. I appreciate a 'plan' helps people feel in control. I am not sure the first one sounds sustainable though.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 07/03/2022 11:35

slimming world doesn't allow unlimited yogurts.....just looked, its all changed

a while back apparently

ElephantLover · 07/03/2022 11:39

I came to read this post thinking it would definitely have the magic words 'consistency', 'exercise', 'protein' but instead it's just saying the same old nonsense which works for few days/weeks but never 'really works' for long term sustained weight management and good health. I guess I'll go back to my 3 magic words then.

Don't forget the allowed chocolate as long as you syn it. You can literally syn 5 bars a day. Grin

It’s an odd post so I can’t say YABU, but really - your thinking is a bit odd on this.

I'm talking here about just the process of losing weight - sustaining it will be a subject for a future thread.

With SW, I kept the weight fully off for 18 months, but as I said ealier, I retreated into comfort baking during Covid so I regained. This is clearly not the fault of SW but it was up to me to keep it sustainable (and obviously I didn't).

With Fast 800 Keto, there is a plan to follow that relies mainly on adopting a mediterranean style diet for life in order to sustain losses. Having started on this, I so love the foods I cannot see that making this lifestyle change will be too hard.

I do wish more people would use their brains before bashing SW though, as per @Fatgalslim: "Surely common sense tells you that you can't eat unlimited amounts of pasta/potatoes/sugary yogurts, they may be 'free' but that doesn't mean unlimited."

PurpleHollyhocks · 07/03/2022 11:48

What worked for me was eating somewhere around 600 - 800 calories for 2 days and 800-1200 calories 3 days and then never going over 1700 the other 2 days (weekend)

I can’t deny that I was often hungry but I lost a lot of weight quickly. I kept it off with a version of the 5:2 and intermittent fasting

NoSquirrels · 07/03/2022 11:57

But if you’re talking just about the process of losing weight i.e. a weight-loss plan then yes, YABU to say you’ve definitively found the two diets that work…they ALL work. If you follow them.

What you’re really saying is “I’ve found two particular diets easy to follow”. Which is subtly different.

SatinHeart · 07/03/2022 11:58

Congratulations OP, but since you posted in AIBU, then YABU for not saying that you have found what works FOR YOU,

You say yourself that "diets will only work if you stick with them" - for different people that will be different diets, depending on their medical history and what works with the other things going on in their life. It really isn't one size fits all.
