What age did your DC first get a sickness bug?

rileyhaspiley · 07/03/2022 07:20

DS is 4.5.

He had a cold once at about age 2.5. Cleared within days.

Never had a sickness bug.

I have no idea why. He licks street floors (very hard to stop), and has licked bins outside etc Envy behaviours I have to keep a close eye on. But yeah, he licks everything! Other disgusting things as well that I won't mention to save you all

Why is he never unwell? Certainly NOT a brag post before anyone says so. I'm just curious. I remember being unwell at least a few times a year when I was young.

My DFriend has a poorly toddler at the moment and I can't help but feel slight envy at her DC laying on a sofa watching films. I can only ever dream!

What age did your DC first get a sickness bug? I remember my siblings all having a bug by age 1 (I'm quite a bit older)

I have a 4 dc. One is always ill! Gets every bug and cold going. One never gets ill. The other 2 a handful of times. I have no idea why. Jut some kids have stronger immune systems than others!

MrPoppysParka · 07/03/2022 07:23

Envy? That’s weird. I would rather my DD be leaping about feeling well but hey, that’s me.

To answer your question, 2. It was absolutely awful.

rileyhaspiley · 07/03/2022 07:23

@Didioverstep funny isn't it?

My DS has a horrendous diet as well. The only healthy thing he has is probably orange juice

My day starts at 2.30am every morning, with a child that doesn't sit still and is a flight risk. Yes I'd like it, weirdly, if he did slow down for just a day BlushGrin

Both mine got a sick bug at 5 months and several more between then and school age.

Thesearmsofmine · 07/03/2022 07:38

I have one who never gets ill, even when the rest of us had norovirus he was fine, I can’t remember him ever having a sick bug tbh and he is 11. My youngest had his first at around 5 months old which was awful.

Hugasauras · 07/03/2022 07:40

Don't be envious of sick bugs! DD got Noro when it was doing the rounds at nursery and passed it to me. I was puking every 45 mins-an hour for 24 hours. And DD was too. Not relaxing being on the sofa when she's spewing and upset!

Hugasauras · 07/03/2022 07:42

I only had a couple of sick bugs as a kid as I'm not prone to them. Prior to getting Noro last year I hadn't been sick from illness in 20+ years! I was v blasé and assumed I wouldn't catch it but alas ...

Morph22010 · 07/03/2022 07:42

Mine is 11 and has only had about 4 or 5 sickness bugs in his life. Even when he’s had a sickness bug hes not how I remember myself being as a child lying under a blanket on settee watching tv all day. He’ll lie down for about 10 mins then get up and run around for abit, get tired, lie down and repeat. Ds is autistic and quite hard work most of the time

RandomQuest · 07/03/2022 07:45

My 4.5 year old has never had one either. She’s thrown up twice in her life- one was actually tonsillitis (the only time she’s ever been properly unwell) and the other she’d sneaked one of those double size punnets of strawberries.

rileyhaspiley · 07/03/2022 07:45

@Morph22010 My son is too. Wonder if there's a connection to it

18 months (we all picked it up) and then 22 months (just him that time). He’s been at nursery since 10 months so I thought it would take less time!

Mol1628 · 07/03/2022 07:48

Mine started getting them at about age 2. Usually we have one once a year now. They eat a fairly good diet, wash hands, exercise plenty so I don’t know why!

SickAndTiredAgain · 07/03/2022 07:51

DD had a sickness bug last year, at about 2.5. Does you son go to nursery/has he started school? If not, you might get several bugs when he does start - DD got hers from nursery

Change123today · 07/03/2022 07:53

First sick bug at 2 even when the rest of us had it when she was around 6 weeks old!

Thankfully both girls didn’t pick it up again for a good few years until I got it it then spread to us all!! That was not a fun few days!!

Neither of my girls are laying on the sofa ill - maybe for 5 mins then then up again!

takeasadsongandmakeitbetter · 07/03/2022 07:57

My DS had a sickness bug when he was only about 10 weeks old, was awful and really scary as he was so tiny! Luckily only a couple since and he's almost 4 now!

NoWordForFluffy · 07/03/2022 07:59

DD had one when she was almost 4, but it was mercifully brief (sick once), she's now almost 9. DS is almost 8 and has never had one.

blobby10 · 07/03/2022 08:29

I was very lucky with my 3 - eldest had sickness bug when he was 5 and just started school. Threw up during the night but nothing else. Managed to escape anything else. Middle child and youngest never had any sickness bugs. Youngest never had a day off school sick from Reception to Year 13. They had colds but were never ill with temperatures. I was very very lucky.

VenusClapTrap · 07/03/2022 08:32

We had Noro for the first time this year. DCs are 11 and 9. DS was truly horrified by being sick; it was a new experience for him and he really didn’t like it!

DistrictCommissioner · 07/03/2022 08:34

If you’re asking specifically about D&V, DC1 age 5, DC2 age 10, DC3 who is 6 hasn’t had a vomiting bug yet. And they’ve travelled round India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar & so on so must have been exposed to plenty.

AmyDudley · 07/03/2022 08:37

DD got one when she was 12 months - it totally floored her, she had just started walking and she stopped until about a month after the bug was gone, it seemed to knock her right back.

GiantSpider · 07/03/2022 08:38

I have three teens, and I can count the number of times they have been sick on the fingers of one hand. I very rarely get ill either. We have strong immune systems!

Icecreamandapplepie · 07/03/2022 08:41

Your kid is 4 and a half so at school, and wakes up every day at 2.30am??!!!

They need a doctor, they can't carry in like that Confused

HorseInTheHouse · 07/03/2022 08:42

10 months or so for DD (after she started going to the childminder) and 3 months for DS (courtesy of his big sister).

They had very frequent bouts of the 'preschool classic' - snotty, feverish, puking and no appetite - for their first few years but now at 6 and 4 are rarely sick. They get the occasional fever and snotty nose but it's been a long time since I had to change the sheets at 2 am or stroke anyone's back as they puke into a bowl. Thank god. Fevers are not too bad, but surely you don't want a sickness bug. You know it's you who has to clean up the vomit.

They do lie quietly on the sofa now but my daughter especially when she was younger just got very irritable when she was ill. She wouldn't lie and rest, she would try to play but because she was clearly feeling rotten she would be very cross about everything and tantrum at anything I tried to do to help her - I couldn't do anything right. I was also jealous of the little invalids who lie meekly under a duvet watching films!
