To ask how many extra-curricular activities your DC do?

AlwaysFuckingTired94 · 06/03/2022 21:52

DD1 (4) is in Reception and does:

Monday - Drama 4-5.15pm
Tuesday - Nothing
Wednesday - Nothing
Thursday - Rainbows 4.30-5.30pm
Friday - Multisports 3.15-4.20pm
Saturday - Football 9.45-10.30am
Sunday - Nothing

Is this too much? DD1 enjoys all her clubs and I'm lead by her personal interests.

How many clubs do your DC do, and how old are they?

Year 1, maximum 3 things a week. At the moment it’s two.

Smarshian · 06/03/2022 21:57

DD (5) reception does Monday swimming (3.45-4.30) and Sat football (9-10), DS (3) goes swimming whilst DD is at football, he will join the football and swimming when he starts school in September. That’s plenty for us!

PeacefulPrune · 06/03/2022 21:57

Reception 2 things a week, but we keep busy with park trips, seeing friends, trampolining etc.

MarianosOnHisWay · 06/03/2022 21:57

Brownies and swimming on weeknights, theatre group (drama/singing/dance) on a Saturday. Occasionally she’ll join a school club that’s offered for a term such as art club or Lego club. She’s 7yo. It’s fine for us at the moment but DD2 is only 1yo- I can imagine it would be tricky having two DC with this number of clubs each!

DS 10yo. Robotics 1'30-2'30 at school. Nothing else.

We're not in UK. Kids have long lunchbreaks and there are extra curricular things available if they want (Judo, English, basketball).

He's done athletics, judo, aikido and rugby after school, bit nothing now.

He'll do a couple of months of swimming before summer kicks in.

He mostly goes to the park and runs about like a loon after school, or with his skateboard.

MojoJojo71 · 06/03/2022 22:02

Tuesday - street dance and singing lesson
Thursday- cheerleading
Saturday - juijitsu
Sunday - swimming every week and about twice a month climbing

mintich · 06/03/2022 22:02

Reception as well

Tues- 30mins swimming
Sat- theatre group 1 hour
Sun - horse riding

She also wants to join Rainbows (needs to turn 5 for our local one) and gymnastics.
I am led by what she wants to do, and equally if she decides she doesn't want to, that's fine too.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/03/2022 22:04

DD1 is 10, Yr6. DD2 is 9, Yr4

Soon DD2s Rugby will swap for Cricket for the summer. Thats a Friday night.

apprenticewage · 06/03/2022 22:07

Dd age 8
Monday-aerial fitness (hoop, silks etc)
Weds- gymnastics
Friday-swimming
Saturday- Camogie (spring to autumn only)

DS age 6
Monday and weds- Tae kwon do
Friday- swimming

Hornetfarmer · 06/03/2022 22:08

DD is 9 - too many is the answer!

She has after school ecology on Monday - 4 15 finish
Tuesday - swimming lesson and brownies
Wednesday - hockey
Thursday - dance
Friday - netball
Saturday - off
Sunday - netball matches or sometimes dance.

We made her stop gymnastics, much to her disgust, as we felt she was doing too much.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 06/03/2022 22:10

15 year old is in Scouting which at the moment involves being a young leader 1 night and going to Explorers another plus DofE also through Scouts which is monthly training a weekend afternoon. Plus of course regular day events, camps, the navigation training and expeditions. On top of this they run with a local club which trains twice a week but they are just coming back from injury and other problems so only going once.

13 year old also in Scouting. Just Scouts at the moment. Then does Karate one night a week and I drag them along to a fitness class as they really need to do additional strength and fitness at the level they are with karate. Ideally they would be training at least another karate class a week but we can't fit it in with other stuff.

10 year old also Scouting one night a week, in Cubs shortly moving up to Scouts. Also does Karate, same level as 13 year old and needs to train more. Especially as is better at it than 13. Also does rugby at the weekend which means that have the strength and fitness.

So basically we have something for someone every day except Friday. But only 2 to 3 things per child.

Lolly86 · 06/03/2022 22:13

Monday: singing (dance show practice) 3.45-4.25, swimming 6-6.30
Tuesday: street dance at school 3.15-4.15 (only until Easter)tap and modern dance 5.30-6.30
Weds: dance show practice 4.30-5.30
Thurs: jazz and ballet 5-6
Friday: nothing
Saturday: nothing
Sunday : drama group: 11-2
All her choosing aside from swimming but she would do that happily without me encouraging it. The dance show practices are only Feb-July. I constantly ask if she still wants to do it all and she's adamant she does. She copes fine with it all.
DD is 8.5 year 3.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 06/03/2022 22:24

DD6
Mon - Catechism 3.15 - 4.30
- Rainbows 4.30 - 5.30
Tues - Karate - 6.30 - 7.15
Wed - swimming 4.45- 5.15
Fri - gymnastics- 3.50 - 4.45

DD3
Tues - karate 6 - 6.30
Fri - swimming 1.15 - 1.45

Happy to let girls try activities they're interested in - while we can afford it - but try to keep weekends free gor family time.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 06/03/2022 22:28

Try and keep them to two a week otherwise it’s too much.
Dd does music and trampolining
Ds does beavers and football

Robostripes · 06/03/2022 22:30

My DS just turned 6. He does karate one night in the evening, swimming lessons at the weekend and an after school club one night a week. He’s signed up to do cricket another weeknight in the summer but it’s only for 8 weeks. I want him to learn an instrument but I think it’s too many things after school at the moment so I’m waiting until he’s a bit older and can have lessons during school time.

piglet81 · 06/03/2022 22:32

6yo only does football (on Saturdays), but he goes to after-school club 4 days a week until 5.30 so there isn’t really time for anything else. I always wonder how people manage to fit all these activities in, especially for more than one child - presumably it’s only possible if you don’t work in the afternoons or have a nanny?

TeaForTiger · 06/03/2022 22:36

9yo
Mon- Choir AM & swimming PM
Tues-
Weds- netball AM & football PM
Thursday-
Friday- tennis
Sat- Dancing
Sun- nothing

7yo
Mon- Swimming
Tues-
Weds- football
Thurs
Fri- Tennis
Sat- football
Sun- Football

That also have after-school club twice a week and have the option of sports clubs at my gym every day, but we don't always time.

I find it a lot with work, but they love it and I want them to have lots of experiences.

Gotajobthrunepotism · 06/03/2022 22:41

2 regular activities (scouts and judo). Used to be more, but his behaviour seemed to suffer. He goes to after school club 4 days a week.

We still do a lot of other things at the weekend: ie local museums, science centre. Trampolining. Soft play. And lots of birthday parties!

Imitatingdory · 06/03/2022 22:49

DS1 - nothing.
DS2 - Scouts, rugby, athletics, 2x football.
DS3 - Scouts, football, 2x tennis.

Yubaba · 06/03/2022 22:57

DS1 has 2 karate lessons a week of an hour each plus grading/competitions/extra classes with visiting Sensei every month or so and he has trampoline lessons on a Saturday morning.
DS2 does Scouts and he helps me with Cubs as I’m a leader and he does trampoline with DS1.

DD does nothing but before the pandemic she did karate, guides and trampolining. She’s decided not to go back to any classes but she’s 15 and a typical moody teenager.

BlueSoul · 06/03/2022 23:00

DS is in Reception. He currently goes to wraparound care at school Mon to Wed which is a different club each day (til 4.30).

He also has a swimming lesson and will soon start multi sports on a Saturday afternoon.

PolicecarOnAToe · 06/03/2022 23:14

I have two dc. Dd 11 (in yr 6) and ds 9 (yr 4). Our week looks like this:

Mon: dd rowing club
Tues: ds football training/dd ballet and tap
Weds: nothing
Thurs: ds 1-1 football training
Fri: ds football training
Sat: dd pony club (9-3) and ds usually has a football match
Sun: ds swimming

It’s quite busy. I worry ds does too much, but he loves football. He will stop swimming lessons once he is at a certain level, so that will be one less thing for him. Dd also does athletics in school so occasionally will have a competition after school.

CiderWithLizzie · 06/03/2022 23:19

DDs 1 and 2 are 20 and 18 now but used to do so many activities, every night of the week and sometimes 2 a night just to fit it all in. So relieved not to have to run around like that now!

ellenpartridge · 06/03/2022 23:25

My dd is 4 and in reception. She does 1 hour of gymnastics on a school night, 1 hour dance class at the weekend and also swimming lessons at the weekend.

I think yours sound fine. For some of the after school ones if the child would otherwise be in after-school club anyway then I think you might as well do the clubs as probably more fun.
