Airbnb - not Informing hosts of under 5's

Long term poster, couldn't access old account.

So me and a family member are looking to stay in London for a few days, we will have two under 5's and a couple more over 5 year old children between us.

Would we be unreasonable to say we have 4 people when we actually have 6?
Because it's common for there to be an extra payment charge per person and it's difficult to find somewhere affordable in London anyway...

Absolutely unreasonable. Of course. You should know this.

LIZS · 05/03/2022 20:59

Will you not need beds for them and have a higher risk of damage or wear and tear?

DontLookBackInAnger1 · 05/03/2022 21:00

Are you having the under 5s sleeping in a travel cot?

If so, YANBU. If they use beds then YABU.

Wisemensay · 05/03/2022 21:00

I would hazard a guess that lying about occupants would cause issues with insurance should something happen at the property.

Josette77 · 05/03/2022 21:00

That's fraudulent.

MaryShelley1818 · 05/03/2022 21:01

Of course it would be.

nocoolnamesleft · 05/03/2022 21:02

I would suspect it would invalidate insurance.

KindlyKanga · 05/03/2022 21:03

Yes totally unreasonable. You're deliberately lying to save money. That's so shit. I hope you get found out and banned from air b n b if you do this.

TricksAnd · 05/03/2022 21:03

They will probably have cctv or a ring doorbell or something.

AuntieMarys · 05/03/2022 21:04

Cheapskates.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 05/03/2022 21:05

jesus....are people really this dim? you would invalidate all insurances, break terms of agreement and risk being thrown out on the spot

nice bit of responsible parenting right there!! if you are that skint, then you don't go!

tearinghairout · 05/03/2022 21:08

Wouldn't it be better to be honest so you don't need to worry about them finding out? What if the owners pop over to check if you need anything? You'd have to lie and say they were visitors. Ridiculous.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 05/03/2022 21:09

The additional cost is probably because of the bed linen and towels. I know that if I have four people using twin beds and a double plus a bath towel and a hand towel each, the bath mat, the tea towels and the cloths used to clean, thats 6 loads of washing and drying and 2 hours of ironing. Add an extra two people, even small people, and it's an extra two loads and an extra hour ironing. I do mine myself but if they send it out, that's about £30 extra cost to the host on the linens alone.

Dreambigger · 05/03/2022 21:10

Not worth lying there are so many ways that they could find out.

I can sleep 5.

If you turned up with 6 I would turn you away at the door. My insurance only covers 5 so you would invalidate that and leave me very vulnerable as well as contravening my fire risk assessment due to over occupancy.

KindlyKanga · 05/03/2022 21:13

Its a really nasty thing to do. This isn't a multinational hotel. Why would you deny their existence.

CarrieHughes · 05/03/2022 21:14

Don't go if you can't afford it. Simple.

mysunandstars · 05/03/2022 21:15

A lot of Air B&Bs have Ring doorbells for this very reason. The owner will check the footage when you check in for extra guests and you'll be busted on day one. Can invalidate their fire regs & insurance etc. Not worth the risk.

Copenhagenoffice · 05/03/2022 21:21

How does the insurance cover a set number of people? I run an Airbnb and have insurance but not sure it specifies a certain number of guests. You are being a Muppet OP to put it politely

TellMeMoreHellebore · 05/03/2022 21:24

i think mumsnet is being trolled tonight

@TellMeMoreHellebore

I think so too… getting more wild with every post 😂

busyeatingbiscuits · 05/03/2022 21:36

Probably cheaper to book a Premier Inn and get a family room each.

Anoisagusaris · 05/03/2022 21:39

Just say the booking is for one person and you will save a fortune.

betwixtlives · 05/03/2022 21:40

there’s an air bnb host on TikTok who has cctv (linked to her phone) above the doors to catch out cheeky fuckers like you. She said lots of hosts have it for this reason

Gottamakesense · 05/03/2022 22:58

I'm not sure... for example if you cosleep with a toddler surely they don't actually need an extra bed therefore you'd choose your accommodation based on the number of beds you actually use rather than the number of people? I think there's a difference between something like that, and booking 16 people into a 1 bed property and having a dance party...
