Ordering Foo Yung

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2022 19:48

Ordering a Chinese with friends. And they thought it was hilarious that I ordered Foo yung. Am I missing something, what's wrong with that?!! (I don't eat Chinese often)

What is foo yung?

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2022 22:05

It was really nice. Had it with pork and egg fried rice.

I love Chinese food but occasionally I will order chicken foo yung I actually had it last weekend. Its my mum's favourite and other than her I've never heard anyone else mention it before. I assume they laughed because it's a bit of a plain, boring meal. They sound like dicks.

ClariceQuiff · 05/03/2022 23:12

The real question is, did Cheddar and Magic laugh at you, @Toddlerteaplease ?

Why is my hoooman eating this eggy stuff when she could be having Dreamies?

Toddlerteaplease · 06/03/2022 01:04

I was at my friends house, so the felines were unaware. Though I'm sure Magic would have liked to try it. I was very impressed that my friends cats didn't not try and sample some.

You'll have to order it at home next time so the Toddler girls don't miss out!

Indigoo03 · 06/03/2022 03:49

Maybe because they didn't know what it was and it sounds funny as i think the name is the phonetics of what it is called in Chinese. Your friends are a bit childish but perhaps harmless? I have a friend who 100pc would order a chicken korma everytime and one friend would snigger which I think is mean as everyone is entitled to order what they want.

IamMaz · 06/03/2022 08:45

I don't like spicy food either. [Not even the mildest.]
I enjoy an egg foo yung too.

BlondeDogLady · 06/03/2022 08:47

Chicken Fu Yung is food of the Gods. I have it every single time. Noodles & fried rice on the side, with a small dollop of curry sauce. Amazing!

TheFuckingDogs · 06/03/2022 08:53

Sounds like they think you’re a bit “English” in your culinary tastes.
I remember once having a very fuddy duddy elderly manager and we all went for a curry at a very good Asian restaurant and she had the omelette and chips. Not really an issue but we did all find it a bit amusing.

TheFuckingDogs · 06/03/2022 08:55

There’s obviously nothing actually wrong with having an unadventurous palate but it’s the sort of thing which might provoke harmless gentle teasing

Hoppinggreen · 06/03/2022 09:01

Everyone can and should eat what they want but I always get a bit baffled by people who say they don’t like Chinese or Indian food.
They are huge countries with a range of different styles of food
I suppose not liking the Anglicised version we get here which is often made with pretty cheap ingredients and covered in oil and salt to disguise the fact makes sense though.
To be honest I might do an internal eye roll at someone who wanted Egg Foo Yung or steak and chips in those circumstances but I would never be so rude to laugh or comment .

LemonMuffins · 06/03/2022 10:09

As a vegetarian I can assure you that far too many people are over invested in what others eat.

I never question or comment on what other people order yet find I'm constantly having to explain myself.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/03/2022 10:11

@ClariceQuiff I've never ordered a Chinese in my life. The only time I've ordered a takeaway at all was a couple of Nando's during lock down.

Tereseta · 06/03/2022 10:11

Love foo yung, your friends sound like judgemental dicks! Why can't people just accept everyone if different Hmm

Toddlerteaplease · 06/03/2022 10:12

My sister always wants to go to Wagamama's when we eat out. It's nice enough but It's not somewhere I'd choose.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 06/03/2022 10:13

And I don't really enjoy it.

OP posts:
pawpaws2022 · 06/03/2022 10:15

I think the thing is, if you've never tried it then you might order something and not like it

My colleague confessed to me after a couple of years that she hadn't tried a lot of stuff and she didn't want to go and buy a punnet of blueberries (for example) and then not like them and waste money
We came to an agreement Grin and every time she wanted to try something I would usually eat/buy, I would bring some in for her

I bet they'd be fine eating sweet and sour chicken, prawn toast and prawn crackers.

It's all a bit silly judging someone for their "English" tastes in a Chinese takeaway given most of the food we order there are anglicised dishes that wouldn't be recognised in China!

Hoppinggreen · 06/03/2022 10:22

That’s not Chinese Some of the dishes are loosely based on Japanese food though It’s ok to like what you like OP but please don’t write of several nations entire cuisine based on what you have experienced in The UK of it
BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 06/03/2022 10:25

It’s basically omlette

SailingNotSurfing · 06/03/2022 11:54

I've never eaten Foo Yung.

BoredZelda · 06/03/2022 13:15

who's rattled your cage?

Not wrong though. How would anyone else know?

BoredZelda · 06/03/2022 13:18

Why amusing? It’s on the menu, the restaurant offers it, why would it be amusing that anyone chooses it. I cannot stomach spicy food, never have been able to. When my colleagues go out for a meal and choose an Indian restaurant should I not go? Or should I join them and choose one of the “European” dishes that are usually on the menu?

SmallPrawnEnergy · 06/03/2022 17:52

You can tell the pretentious nobbers a mile off.

One meals doesn’t mean you don’t have an “adventures palate” or you hate the cuisine of that country. It may just mean you fancy the fu yung that day,

But tests will judge because it makes them feel better about their own sad little lives.

Hope the “omelette” was a good choice op!
