DH routinely reuses stamps. His excitement when an envelope arrives and the stamp isn't marked is a wonder to behold.

Franking is the enemy.

What cheeky things do you do to save the pennies?

@needyousomuch

My friend uses my prime account and cinema pass and keeps anything that I happen to lend her or leave at hers. That's how she saves money
I’m surprised she gets away with it. I used to work at a cinema and the cards had photos on them specifically so people couldn’t just buy one limitless membership and share amongst all their family and friends.
Kanaloa · 09/03/2022 00:47

Although speaking of the cinema there was one lady with a limitless card who used to bring her own cup (a plastic Disney one) and would use the very confusing request ‘a small coke please, but fill it up to the top.’ Basically she meant she wanted to be charged for a small coke but have the whole large sized cup filled. And she threw a wobbly when I filled one of our small cups then poured it into her cup, where it filled it about a quarter full.

I frequently have overnight trips for work and If my hotel room happens to have fancy tea bags I'll pop them in my suitcase to bring home. I now have a lovely assortment of teas to offer and enjoy.

gracedentssketty · 09/03/2022 12:43

If we’re on holiday I do take the miniature shampoos, body washes etc from the hotel as they are great for using again on short trips or offering to guests when they come to stay - I remember we stayed in a Gran Melia in Madrid and theirs were Clarins one - feels a luxury to offer those to guests.

Also the free slippers from the hotels as they are really handy for home.

Sometimes charge my phone at work.

"Bigbiggles

My DM taught me that when you have a ladder in one leg of your tights you cut it off, throw away and keep the one legged remainder. When you have two 'pairs' of one legged tights you wear them together - ie the two good legs. I did this throughout my teens (though a little uncomfortable with two layers of nylon pants, which tended to twist round).

Good lord. Am astonished by lots of things on this thread but this one takes the biscuit. Can't imagine how uncomfortable that must have been."

I was taught to put nail varnish on the ladder in the hope it wouldn't get any worse.

Surely the cost of Thrush treatment from wearing double nylon on your vag, outweighs the money saved? The very thought is making me want to scratch….

I have to say, this thread went somewhere different than I anticipated

You mean you are surprised that most of us aren't thieves, and actually think it is wrong to steal ? Confused

Where did you anticipate it would go? Maybe some fun tips such as -

Don’t pay for cinema tickets! Just punch the usher in the face and walk straight in to the screen.

Don’t buy food like an idiot. Just fill your trolley and walk out.

Definitely don’t pay rent! Just file fraudulently for housing benefit even though you work.

Ha ha ha. Some of the cheeky ways I save money Grin

@monroeagogo

Genuine question
Do you put the pastries through as rolls etc in front of your children?

Landedonfeet · 10/03/2022 07:31

And if they wanted to do that if hey were spending heir pocket money
What would you say?

Perfect response! She is just shameless - like people who are obviously 30+ but a bit 'tasty' looking asking for a child's half-fare on the bus (for themselves).

I find it hilarious how people find stealing from a multibillion pound company offensive. They steal from you on a daily basis by charging well over the odd for what they are selling. Like shop assistance who are paid minimum wage and worry someone steals. I would be condoning that at this stage with the cost of everything. Plus isn't royal mail part government and isn't the government continuously increasing taxes to give themselves raises.

Your justification of theft isn't hilarious though. It's a bit worrying.
OakPine · 10/03/2022 12:30

Watering down shampoo or washing up liquid Is frugal.
Sitting in a cafe with a mug of hot water but putting in your own tea bag, taking handfuls of salt/ketchup sachets. That’s theft. Plain and simple. Not to mention embarrassing. Do you think the staff don’t notice?

And yet on another Thread you post

Clov3119

What I find absolutely annoying about gumtree, Facebook selling and the like is that they wouldn't expect a store to accept less. Then they are happy to offer less. In a store they will pay extortionate prices. I keep all my things pristine so when I sell its almost as good as new. Then I get offered half of what I'm advertising it as. People are really skanky.

You think they’re skanky for offering you half
But the same people wouldn’t be “skanky” in you eyes if they stole from the stores? Grin

Lex345 · 10/03/2022 13:18

Doesn't save me money, but if I have paid for parking for say 3 hours and leave earlier than expected, I will actively look for someone to give the ticket to. Although becoming rarer now because of entering number plates

Gwenhwyfar · 10/03/2022 21:27

"Watering down shampoo or washing up liquid Is frugal."

It's pointless because you'll need to use more.

"Sitting in a cafe with a mug of hot water but putting in your own tea bag, taking handfuls of salt/ketchup sachets. That’s theft. Plain and simple. Not to mention embarrassing. Do you think the staff don’t notice?"

It's the staff giving them the hot water!
It's cheeky rather than theft though. I actually have people in my group of friends who no longer talk to each other because of this issue.

Gwenhwyfar · 10/03/2022 21:28

"isn't royal mail part government and isn't the government continuously increasing taxes to give themselves raises?"

MPs are getting raises, not sure government workers are. Taxes are there to fund public services.

😂

I remember my auntie making me say I was four up until I was about six to get a free fair on the bus! Back then it was free for under 5 year old. I hated it.

But yes she was cheeky! A bit outing but I was hoping she was maybe on here and would pipe up with what the fuck her thought process was when she gave me a large cup and asked for a small drink.

Asda isn’t actually stealing from you because you have a choice you numpty. If you steal cakes from Asda they had no choice in that. If you find them overpriced then you’re of course well within your rights to say ‘I am not supporting this big business because it is too expensive!’ Good luck trying to find cheaper ones though.

Why do people always think shop workers get minimum wage? I work for a supermarket and get more than nmw and it's going up next month. Also I care about shop theft because I take pride in my work and know that all you disgusting shoplifters achieve is increased prices for the rest of us.
SmellyOldOwls · 10/03/2022 21:46

I was in subway yesterday and asked for a cookie and the bloke gave me 2 and I said nothing. I like to think he knew what he was doing and slipped me an extra one because I'm so gorgeous (almost twice his age and quite possibly twice his weight too Grin)
