DH routinely reuses stamps. His excitement when an envelope arrives and the stamp isn't marked is a wonder to behold.

Franking is the enemy.

What cheeky things do you do to save the pennies?

R e the soup thing.
I used to work with someone who dividef a cuppa soup in 2!
With half a slice of bread.

She was unbelievably frugal. But wasnt short of money by any stretch.

Then she'd fill up on the free biscuits and fruit the company supplied. Talking a whole tray of biscuits.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/03/2022 19:44

I imagine 'enclose an SAE' would mean nothing to them either.

And don't forget to allow 28 days to receive your order Grin

LoisLane66 · 06/03/2022 19:44

Signed for isn't all its made out to be.
I sent s firm into HMRC on two occasions, both signed for but never received.
When I lodged a complaint I was told that their post is 'signed for' in bulk, meaning that hundreds of letters/items in each delivery get one signature and they're not singled out, hence they can't in truth, tell you that your particular letter/form has been received.

I don't send that many but they have always got there and been signed for. Nothing to HMRC though.

People aren't 'taken into the back' for stealing anymore, so that's bo**ks!! 🤣🤣

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

I happily exploit the rules on meal deals in Asda. Everywhere else makes you have a sandwich (or similar), a drink and crisps - although the crisps aren't ambient, are far cheaper to buy in a multipack and take no preparation time, and we normally just drink tap water (or fizzy water dispensed from the big cheapo 2l bottles) anyway.

The sandwich is the dearest element of the meal and the one that's least straightforward to make/take in yourself - but the terms in Asda are that you take three qualifying items and the cheapest is free; hence you're fully allowed to take three packs of sandwiches for your meal deal, get one of them free and then put the extra ones in the fridge for the next couple of days.

I think a sandwich is far more straightforward to make yourself then trying to create your own bag or crisps or bottle of coke Confused

loaf of bread and a pack of pre sliced cheese costs less then 1 pre made sandwich and makes like 10 or so.

@GestationalDiabetes

I too find the stamp thing dishonest rather than money saving . It may seem small but it’s effectively taking a service for free. We cut dishwasher tablets in half and it always seems to do as good a job!
Not thought of that, good idea!
Mandyjack · 06/03/2022 19:54

We try and go shopping in the evening when the yellow stickers have been put on the bread, cakes etc and save money

Sgtmajormummy · 06/03/2022 19:54

I got a “tracked and signed” card from the UK.
Sent mid November, arrived here (Italy) in February. Shock

Surely if a thing’s being tracked it’s in their interest to get it to the destination ASAP.
Seems like neither country’s postal service gives a hoot!

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2022 19:54

You'd just have to be very careful buying pre-made sandwiches days ahead of eating them. They are very short dated, quite rightly so.

I buy ready made sandwiches when I don't need a whole loaf or stuff to go in one, I just need the one sandwich at that moment.

I like that they make it any 3 items. I pick 3 sandwiches, then grab a multipack of crisps and bunch of bananas from elsewhere in the shop

Yes a loaf of bread and slices of cheese would still be cheaper, but sometimes its nice to have a fancier sandwich for a picnic, such as chicken and bacon or prawn mayo. Which would not be that cheap or easy to prepare yourself.

Mandyjack · 06/03/2022 19:55

@Notdoingthis

No don't reuse stamps. My inlaws do and I keep having yo pay their postage and am too embarrassed to mention it!
Think you should drop a massive hint!
NoWordForFluffy · 06/03/2022 20:00

@Landedonfeet

0.5p to one nectar point. So 200 points is £1. 10,000 points is £50

For you to have accrued £110 in 10 weeks means….22 thousand points

You have spent £22,000 on items / services that accrue nectar points in 10 weeks?

Of course I haven't!

I earn about £10 a week due to using the bonus offers / shopping on eBay / using Nectar Connect etc.

I've attached a couple of screenshots to show some of the points I've collected this week, for instance.

Whatever happens, this must never, ever become a MN Classic (take this from someone who has been here since the start).

My XH was financially abusive (as well as abusive in other ways). Reusing stamps was a thing for him, and there are ideas on here which would have made him very excited.

Just don't.

Landedonfeet · 06/03/2022 20:23

Can o see your actual points balance though?!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/03/2022 20:24

People aren't 'taken into the back' for stealing anymore, so that's boks!!

The ones I've seen are just stopped and confronted by the security guard next to the exits. Taking you into the back in the past was probably partly to protect the store against accusations of defamation if the theft can't be 100% proved - but now there are cameras everywhere, they have no need to protect your anonymity; and if you complain about it, as Alan Partridge would say, they've got you by the jaffas!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/03/2022 20:25

bold fail (owing to bowdlerised quote!!!)

Oh, yes, it's much easier to make a sandwich than to manufacture a drink; but suppose you wanted a can of Pepsi Max every day, you could pay much less per can by grabbing a 24-pack from the back of the shop and keeping them in your cupboard, to take one from each day (or keep at work or wherever). They don't need to be refrigerated and won't go off for months. Similar with a huge multi-pack of crisps. Not so the sandwiches, which don't come in a cheaper bulk-buy multipack that will last for ages in your cupboard.
