Not to wear a mask?

Hmum0fthree · 05/03/2022 19:03

From my understanding any NHS setting you have to wear a mask but unless its busy / I am going to be close to someone I don't due to being heavily pregnant and having bad nausea and wearing a mask makes this worse.

Went into the pharmacy today and a man in there already told me to put a mask on (not staff) I ignored him and was stood at least 4/5 meters away!

He then proceeded to shout at the staff behind the till that I wasn't following the rules and he is vulnerable Confused

The lady behind the till turned to me and said you are required to wear a mask unless exempt to which I replied then why aren't any of the staff, she didn't know were to look and another member of staff was coughing into their hand then proceeded to stock the shelves.

So the man then started on the staff members and said he was reporting the pharmacy!

AIBU not to wear a mask when the staff don't bother to either?

you are there 20 mins max they are there all day!

Hmum0fthree · 05/03/2022 19:20

@TellMeMoreHellebore what has that got to do with anything? The staff in the hospital are doing 12 hour shifts, running round exhausted they still wear masks!

No, I wouldn't have worn a mark either in that situation.

They aren't mandatory now so people have to make their own choices on weather they need to.

In a hospital setting yes sure I probably would. Although I did go to the doctor's surgery 2021 lockdown when masks were mandatory and none of the receptionist had them on. Either way it's up to the person.

Hbh17 · 05/03/2022 19:41

If you are in England, masks are not required. You have a choice what to do and don't need to go along with other people's paranoia.

RoomOfRequirement · 05/03/2022 19:42

YABU. It's rude in a hospital setting not to wear a mask if you can.

CharlotteRose90 · 05/03/2022 19:42

They aren’t mandatory anymore. I go into hospitals, doctors and pharmacies all the time and they normally have a note up saying if you can wear one then do. I can’t so I don’t. No questions are normally asked. Was just that man causing trouble I think .

WTF475878237NC · 05/03/2022 19:44

I would have put one on for the duration of the queue and it's wrong the staff weren't.

A pharmacy isn't a hospital setting.
Starlightstarbright1 · 05/03/2022 19:48

Healthcare settings are still on Amber. So yes you should be wearing a mask.... however if none of the staff are i would query that too.

I work in a health care setting and am still required to wear a mask all day.

Hollyhobbi · 05/03/2022 20:03

Surely a pharmacy is a heath care setting. I do think the staff should have been wearing masks.

Hairbrush123 · 06/03/2022 09:40

YANBU. A pharmacy isn’t a health care setting. What’s the difference between going to the shop and collecting your prescription at the pharmacy?

My friend is a pharmacist and none of his colleagues wear a mask anymore. I would look at going to another pharmacy if you can.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 06/03/2022 09:42

Have you heard of the phrase ‘two wrongs don’t make a right’?

Parker231 · 06/03/2022 09:42

Any business can decide their own criteria as to whether customers have to wear a mask or not.

This they get to choose their rules, you get to choose if you go there.
Mirrorball2022 · 06/03/2022 09:46

I work in a hospital and wear one all day, sick of arguing with people that just cos Boris said…we still need to wear them in a hospital/medical setting. Should note their are times when it’s understandable not that’s one on.

However if the pharmacy staff haven’t got one on they aren’t that bothered are they, any one of them can be spreading covid to each other or customers to be fair.

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/03/2022 09:48

Just put a mask on for ten minutes ffs.

Alocasia · 06/03/2022 09:49

Of course a pharmacy is a healthcare setting!

Parker231 · 06/03/2022 09:51

@pinkcattydude - our local Deli is still has mandatory masks - it’s been in business about 20 years and very popular. They are always busy.

Cakelover17 · 06/03/2022 09:52

It’s only for a few minutes, if it’s making the other people in there feel uncomfortable I’d just leave or put a mask on, rather than being rude to the staff member trying to enforce a policy that they are suppose to police but probably didn’t put in place themselves.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 06/03/2022 09:52

Then why aren't the staff wearing masks?

You still have to wear one in the hospital I work at, there is someone at the doors handing them out.

I do agree with you but surely the obvious difference is that there is more likely to be people that are unwell/Vulnerable picking up prescriptions which can't be avoided, whereas shops can be.

YANBU OP, I'm in Scotland so wearing masks is still required but I'm also pregnant and have HG and wearing a mask makes it a lot worse. I do try to the majority of the time but if I can't then I don't. My pharmacy only allows two people in to wait and a time and there's markings on the floor, you're more than 2m apart. The staff also have screens so nobody says anything if you don't wear one

NeedAHoliday2021 · 06/03/2022 09:56

It’s a “condition of entry” for a hospital setting. In my hospital the rule is mask or if exempt then visor. Wearing nothing is only for those without capacity. We’ve gone from 2 patients with covid to 30 in 3 days all linked to a visitor who refuses to wear a mask. Their relative was patient zero. We now have wards closed and elective operations delayed further. The implications of passing on covid in a healthcare setting are huge.

OfstedOffred · 06/03/2022 10:01

Yanbu OP. Masks are not mandatory. You do not have to explain yourself.

This. Let's just stop this nonsense.
