To think that voting yanbu on a clearly emotive thread and not putting your opinion to your vote is cowardly.

Yes, a particular thread has triggered this thread, however I’ve seen it so many times where a poster posts something which is very emotional, i.e. in the most recent example about pro life protesters harassing people outside a maternity clinic, where there is almost a unanimous “yanbu” vote because actually, the OP is so clearly not being unreasonable that it should be 100%.

However, on these threads there is almost always a 1 or 2% yabu vote, but the poster/s voting clearly don’t have the balls to own up to their vile opinions and so hide behind their vote.

Surely, if you believe that you’re right enough to vote yabu on something so emotive, then you should stop being such a bloody coward and state or opinion?

Or piss off.

Same as @Cornettoninja

And…it’s an Internet forum, who really invests that much?!

It’s useful but fgs if someone doesn’t agree…meh

Eddielizzard · 04/03/2022 19:56

I don't see the voting option. How do you get it? Is it cos I use mumsnet classic?

Woollystockings · 04/03/2022 19:59

I don’t see any voting function and nor do I see any voting percentages either. I’ve no idea what is being talked about.

MurmuratingStarling · 04/03/2022 20:00

@tyoy

I don't have the voting function but there are always people who like to be contrary & some people are just dicks so 100% will be happen.
So anyone who votes YABU is a dick? Why?
CharacterForming · 04/03/2022 20:01

It's surprisingly easy to click the wrong button.

But if that's not the reason, would you really think it preferable for someone to straight out explain in detail why they think that the protestors' actions were justified? On a thread full of women who've had abortions, some in very distressing circumstances? I don't think you've thought it through, because I for one would much rather they restricted their opinion to a single click.

I also don't think I'd like to see the phantom racists Arabellla mentions come out and favour us with their detailed views.

MurmuratingStarling · 04/03/2022 20:01

@MrsSchrute

With the way some people on here react towards people who go against the mumsnet majority, it's hardly surprising that people just click on YABU but put no comments.

This.
I just saw the thread in question. Any one who admitted being pro life on that thread would be absolutely ripped to shreds! The tone wasn't about wanting to understand an alternative point of view, it was about wanting to tell someone how vile they are!

Exactly!
RJnomore1 · 04/03/2022 20:01

Bloody hell I didn’t realise you could change your vote! I thought it was one and done.

tyoy · 04/03/2022 20:06

@MurmuratingStarling no where did I say that? Plus that wasn't the only option I gave.
The OP explicitly was taking about threads "where there is almost a unanimous “yanbu” vote because actually, the OP is so clearly not being unreasonable that it should be 100%" & equally threads where there is a unanimous "yabu". I'm just saying you can never get 100%.

If something posted a thread saying do you agree Putin is a bad man, someone will disagree!

MurmuratingStarling · 04/03/2022 20:10

@tyoy

You said, most people will vote YANBU, but there will always be some dicks who like to be contrary. Therefore, you said people who vote YABU are dicks.

LondonWolf · 04/03/2022 20:10

I rarely do it but did on a thread the other day as the OP was clearly not telling the truth. Plenty of posters told them so and I saw no use in piling on with yet another "you're lying to yourself OP!" but at the same time it might help them to see just how weighted the vote is.

MurmuratingStarling · 04/03/2022 20:10

As I said, when someone has an opinion that goes against the majority, and isn't classed as a 'suitable' or 'correct' opinion, and they don't toe the mumsnet (usually left leaning, and/or feminist) line; they are slaughtered on here.

It's hardly bloody surprising that many people won't comment on here when their view goes against the grain. Very few people will put their head above the parapet on here, as they know they will be annihilated by keyboard warriors, who, as a few others have said, are in too much of a rush to tell them how vile and putrid they are, to actually engage in a rational discussion.

TheSnowyOwl · 04/03/2022 20:11

Some people like to troll, some people may accidentally vote, some people might not know how to change the vote, some people might misunderstand the way the OP is written and agree with them but click the wrong option because the OP is phrased in a yes/no way. But ultimately people are entitled to their view and should be allowed to vote how they want.

So often you are an AIBU where the OP refuses to accept that maybe the are BU. It’s an anonymous forum so surely the vote facility doesn’t need to be backed up by a comment to give it any validity.

pictish · 04/03/2022 20:15

Yabu because it’s an unrealistic expectation. Too many variables to form a solid rule.

tyoy · 04/03/2022 20:16

@MurmuratingStarling

no I said some people are contrary & some people are dicks, read my post again.

In a thread where the majority of people would vote 99% one way like a thread about a Putin you will still get people who disagree. Some will do it to be contrary & some will be dicks because they support Putin for example.

OK fair enough. Smile Sorry I misunderstood.

👍🏼

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 05/03/2022 05:22

I've seen it be 99% YANBU with 1 vote so I wouldn't read too much in to it.

KindlyKanga · 05/03/2022 05:27

I don't even look at the voting

BuanoKubiamVej · 05/03/2022 05:52

The percentage of people in the world who are stupid, selfish, misinformed, misogynistic or otherwise twattish enough to vote yabu when it is manifestly obvious to those with a heart and a brain who aren't in the grip of any delusion that the correct button is yanbu, is probably rather more than 2%. Your faith in humanity is touchingly naive but the fact that it's 2% rather than highsr is a reflection that most of those who aren't in agreement with the rational and compassionate majority either don't hang out on mumsnet or at least have the sense and tact not to vote. The tiny minority that don't have rationality, compassion, sense or tact such that they are driven to cast that dissenting vote simply do not have the mental capacity to explain why in a rational way (let alone a compassionate or tactful way without which their post would be deleted by mnhq anyway and they might have just enough sense to realise this.)

But yanbu to be annoyed. People are annoying. It's a fundamental feature of most of humanity, with a few honorable exceptions. The trick is to find a niche with as many of the exceptions as you can and allow yourself the to focus your interactions to them except when you have the mental strength to go out and face the rest.

MintyFreshBreath · 05/03/2022 05:55

Definitely agree with you. The only thing I would say is that sometimes posters phrase their question in such an awkward way that I don’t really know what they’re getting at. So I click what I think is right and end up being in the minority when it should have been the other way round.

I'm with @ClariceQuiff - I think sometimes it's a way to call out ridiculous virtue signalling. Why ask if there's really only one clear answer - it's just irritating!

Also, I had no idea you could change your vote!

Woollystockings · 05/03/2022 06:58

Where is this voting function? Is it on this thread, for example? Where? What does it look like? Is it something very hidden?

FluffyBooBoo · 05/03/2022 07:24

It's on this thread, it's not hidden at all. It's just below the opening post. I'm on the website on my mobile and it looks like the attached photo. It looks pretty similar on a normal browser.
