He was only 52

One of the greatest cricketers of all time. I saw him play in an Ashes series. A real game changer in every sense.

Very shocked TBH. I just heard about this. R.I.P. Sad

BringMeTea · 04/03/2022 16:37

Fickle fate eh. I am very moved by his death. He was so vital.

Tupperwarelid · 04/03/2022 16:39

I couldn't believe it when I read it, it's so young. I was lucky enough to see him play a couple of times and he was a real character on and off the pitch. RIP

Devastating....same age as my husband who passed 4 years ago from heart attack. . No warning nothing. Condolences to his family x

FlibbertyGiblets · 04/03/2022 16:46

Ah no, what a legend. That ball was epic. Bugger.

Floralnomad · 04/03/2022 16:47

This has really come as an almighty shock this afternoon . RIP Shane

Can’t fathom this, aged 52. So shocking and sad

I don’t usually get upset when famous people die. But this has really shocked and upset me. I’ve spent many days watching home play at the MCG. So sad. Bowling Warnie RIP

SprayedWithDettol · 04/03/2022 17:05

@Ekerty72

What sad news :-(

I was only watching the Kath and Kim episode last night where he played the Shane Warne impersonator "Wayne". He must of been a right laugh to get involved.

A very sad loss and such a young age :-(

That’s a brilliant episode and the last one. Sharon gets her man.

Such a shame, he was too young.

Justlovedogs · 04/03/2022 17:06

Just got home from work and seen it on the 5pm headlines. I am stunned. Such a character, fantastic cricketer and, in recent years, an excellent commentator on the game. RIP.

Mimijamroll · 04/03/2022 17:10

RIP , Shane. Very sad news. A similar age to me, too young.

Shanewarnefan · 04/03/2022 17:13

So sad. He was a proper legend and wonderful to watch tactically. Our whole house is sad tonight Flowers

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 04/03/2022 17:13

This is a great video that shows just how technical his bowling was.

He makes it sound so simple but it must have taken so much practice.

Not much of any kind of sports fan, but could always see how proud of Warnie people were. He was not only excellent in his sport, but a real laugh.

No age at all.

timtam23 · 05/03/2022 09:26

This was such a shock yesterday my feelings took me completely by surprise (and I don't usually have much time for those who grieve for famous people they've never met). Maybe because it was so sudden and he was still young. I'm a fairly casual fan of cricket, my dad used to play so I grew up listening to and watching the Test matches and especially the Ashes. Warnie really brought theatre to a match. Even if supporting England you couldn't help but admire his skill and how he could control the game. Loved him in the Kath & Kim episode also, Sharon's adoration of Warnie was a running joke throughout the series. RIP Shane

I was on my way back from the school run when a big, flash white car stopped to let me cross the road, I thanked the driver and the window slowly rolled down, out popped Shane Warne’s cheeky face, he grinned at me from ear to ear, winked and said “Nice!”as he drove off.
He was in my City for a match at our county ground. 😁

DontBlameMe79 · 05/03/2022 10:31

Good to see his appalling treatment of women over the years being glossed over…it’s all Go Warnie! He was such a character! And we wonder why we’re treated badly so often.

FFS this makes my point. Harassment at a zebra crossing. But all ok because it’s him. We’re our own worst enemies…

Yankey

I really rather that this thread didn’t descend into speculation. A great sportsman is dead far too young, I think we should focus on that.
