I know I probably am BU but it really winds me up how people use 'brought' instead of 'bought' -the verb to bring and to buy are completely different and have different meanings it's not hard to use the right one!!
The other one that really winds me up is how a lot of people use' I should of' instead of 'I should have' -of is not a replacement for have it's just wrong!
Is it just me? What other common errors annoy you?

Nothing wrong about "try + and"

"Fed up of" isn't considered standard, but as with many non-standard forms, it will probably become so over the next "generation" (in historical linguistics terms)

I'm more annoyed by people who ask if they're the only one to be annoyed by something that many, many posters are annoyed by as if they're somehow special

🤷🏽‍♀️

I used to get annoyed by this sort of thing, then I remembered people often type how they speak and that lots of people have dyslexia and some people struggle to remember the difference between their, they're and there or or affect and effect.

That said, I'm not keen on "im" "i" and "alot".

It used to bug me then I realised it's actually regional dialect rather than just a spelling mistake. Another common bug bear for people is defiantly rather than definitely which has turned out to be a rather common autocorrect so I've relaxed my expectations these days.

Yes, all the examples mentioned, plus my personal hatred of ; 'floor' instead of 'ground' when referring to outdoors. The words 'discrete ' is almost universally being misused when actually meaning 'discreet ' - they have completely different meanings ! The well known ?? phrase is " To eat your cake and have it " because if you " have a cake " then of course you are able to eat it, the opposite of what is intended . ..

It's somewhat illogical. But not as odd as the Americanism 'I could have cared less' in place of "I couldn't have cared less". I also used to interpret 'lucked out' the wrong way - sounds more like you're out of luck than in it. But we have to accept they're common idioms.

Loose and lose. I see it all the time on mn.
