Thanks Bozo, adds to the gaiety of the nation I suppose. That's laughing AT not laughing WITH. AIBU to say this is just the cherry on the cake with the MPs salary increase?

I refuse to blame the honours system.

Maybe it should or shouldn't be abolished, however - when used properly - good people can be recognised, like Captain Sir Tom Moore. It's a tool, nothing more.

Blaming it distracts us from what's truly at fault here. Which is, to quote @eightlivesdown:

Boris just doesn't seem to learn. It's one thing after another after another where he thumbs his nose at the electorate and shows he's living in an elitist bubble.

Get angry with the people who chose to use the system this way, not the system itself.

middleager · 03/03/2022 23:20

Absolute insult to students, staff and families.

Fridgeorflight · 03/03/2022 23:28

Where will it end though? In a few years he will still have the same dirt on people, will he turn the screws again and get a peerage?

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 03/03/2022 23:31

But the bloke can't do anything right. He confused Marcus Rashford with a rugby player, presided over the exams fiasco, made a fool of himself over the Salisbury poisonings and the leak of information about 5G.

I bet he was rubbish at selling fireplaces as well - he left the company because of shagging someone he shouldn't. And he actively stood against Johnson getting the leadership, so Christ knows what Boris is on this time.

The bloke is like Frank Spencer, and gets rewarded for it. Total disaster zone.

mrsnoodle55 · 03/03/2022 23:32

Totally agree with all the comments; he is indeed a complete tool. But I can’t help now feeling a tiny bit of pity for him. Never thought I would say that.

Imagine getting given a knighthood, which you know everyone knows you don’t deserve (and you know that too 🙄). It’s even clear to us plebs that you’ve only been given it to keep quiet about god knows what. But from now on, when everyone addresses you as ‘Sir Gavin’ whilst sniggering and whispering about what an utter shameless shambles the honours system is, you have to pretend to not care. I mean, the fact he can probably deal with that says a lot about him. But really….. everyone knows this is a complete farce, only certain personalities wouldn’t care that everyone felt this way.

JustSinginIntheRain · 03/03/2022 23:34

It's like knighting the court jester.

Great post.

Gavin can say no, though! It's the best advert for corruption and pointlessness of the honours system though.

That Russia report really should be released.

52andblue · 04/03/2022 07:11

Williamson made a complete mess of 'education' &, like Johnson, has been fired for both incompetence & lying. No 'honour' in that!

Roselilly36 · 04/03/2022 07:40

😂 the Frank Spencer of education.

Many thanks for the link. Shocking but somehow not surprising.

MimosaPiqueNique · 04/03/2022 07:49

Carole’s thread makes interesting reading. Unreacted Russian report now please Boris.

MimosaPiqueNique · 04/03/2022 07:49

Redacted! Sorry have covid atm Confused

BornBlonde · 04/03/2022 08:16

Thanks for the link. Difficult reading

casacat · 04/03/2022 08:27

This is truly diabolical.

There is absolutely NO NEED for BJ to do this - unless he’s trying to silence the gormless wonder.

I feel rage and I’m not even a teacher. It just beggars belief.

dreamscantcometrue · 04/03/2022 08:28

The wall to wall outrage and zero support for this speaks volumes.

Will the government listen... will they fuck

EthelTheAardvark · 04/03/2022 10:30

We can all easily list former Tory ministers who did a much better job than Williamson, yet Johnson hasn't even pretended to come up with anything Williamson has done over and above other former ministers that remotely merits a knighthood. So the only conclusion anyone can draw is that he's scared of the damage Williamson can do.

EthelTheAardvark · 04/03/2022 10:33

I just Googled and the queen has apparently approved it. What is the point of her?

To be fair, she simply doesn't have a choice. It must really stick in her gullet when some of these people turn up for the knighthood ceremony, though I suppose she mostly delegates those these days anyway. Maybe she should get Andrew to do this one.

EthelTheAardvark · 04/03/2022 10:34

What's interesting is that the usual suspects haven't turned up so far on this thread to defend this decision. Hasn't Central Office fed them the official line on it yet?

couldhave · 04/03/2022 10:35

knows where the bodies cash dirt is buried and was probably promised this if he went quietly when 'sacked'

couldhave · 04/03/2022 10:37

Sacked as defence minister for leaking details about national security meeting?
Yep, definitely should be a knight of the nation...

HappydaysArehere · 04/03/2022 10:38

Crumbs! Is this true? I have been so caught up in the Ukraine I missed this. Where was it reported? Would imagine the expression on the tv reporter’s face would be a sight to behold. Something has just got to be done about Boris - Putin or no Putin. Come on Jeremy Hunt come out of hiding and launch yourself into the frey.
