If not have you opted out of it and how do people react if you do etc?

What is your situation re What's App?

  1. Me, brother, our parents
  2. Me and everyone that lives in my house
  3. All of the above.

I tried to get DH to set one up when his mother was ill - just for his 5 siblings and him - as texting and phoning one on one was just creating war as stories and misinformation just flew around. But someone "didn't do Whatsapp" so there wasn't one and so the bitching continues.

BobHadBitchTits · 03/03/2022 15:42

We do. And my dad randomly left it last night without saying why 🤣

I also have a sibling one.

PliqueAjour · 03/03/2022 15:43

Yes we have one with our adult DC and their spouses/partners. It's great for sharing photos and making plans.

Santaslittlemelter · 03/03/2022 15:44

Yep, I’ve one for my mums side of the family (uncles, aunts and cousins), my dads side of the family (same) and my husbands family one too (his parents and siblings). My FH has one with all his uncles, aunts and cousins too but I’m not on that one.

Comefromaway · 03/03/2022 15:44

We have one for me, dh, dd & ds. My work phone doesn’t allow me to text photos for free and it’s just easier to use.

My mum doesn’t even have a smart phone.

OverByYer · 03/03/2022 15:44

Yes 1. Me DH and my DSs

  1. Me, my parents, my brothers and sils
Bitofachinwag · 03/03/2022 15:45

No. Whatsapp is owned by Facebook and I want nothing to do with them.

GMH74 · 03/03/2022 15:45

Yes, I have one that has me, my two teenage children, my brother, his wife and my dad who only looks at it occasionally. It's useful for arranging stuff. We post pictures and videos on and family news and my brother often asks for babysitting help.

DidymusAmbrosius · 03/03/2022 15:46

Yep - but we're a pretty laid back family so it's basically used to wish Happy Birthdays or share jokes or quick updates. No drama and not much noise.

You could just send the sane text to several people though. Or email and do ,"reply all", or a conference call/Teams/similar.
Volhhg · 03/03/2022 15:48

No

ReiltinDubh · 03/03/2022 15:48

@Sportslady44

When you mute notifications you still get 5hem come through don't you. It just doesn't make a notification sound but you still see it pop up.
You can archive them op. Then they go in a little group at the top and you don't get the notifications coming through. V handy for people I don't want to see everytime I open WhatsApp
SickAndTiredAgain · 03/03/2022 15:49

Yeah, with my siblings and parents. It’s predominantly my mum asking me for pics of DD (the only grandchild).

Sportslady44 · 03/03/2022 15:51

Didn't know that .Flowers

I don't use any SM apart fro MN. Not a clue what Whats app is.

Duchessfloofy · 03/03/2022 15:54

Yes and I've not been invited ! (My brothers!). Only one of my DB's speak to me . Dunno why the other two dislike me . Probably cos I am poor.!

BathshebaAndGabriel · 03/03/2022 15:57

I’m on one with my large paternal family. Cousins, aunts, uncles, cousin’s children.
It drives me slightly mad.
Competitive one upmanship writ large.

I may have left it several times. Only to be added again by jolly hockey sticks cousin.
My very sensible sister refuses to join.

JodieFoster1 · 03/03/2022 15:58

No. I keep what I like to call a healthy distance. I call my mother once a week (she lives with her sister).

I already hate the way I might text a snippet of news to one sibling and a different sibling then emails me to comment! I think a family what’s app group would send me into a decline. I’d just say no thanks anyway. My general take on social media is it encourages showing off.

TheOrigRights · 03/03/2022 15:58

We have one with 3 sisters. There are 4 sisters but one keeps flouncing off.

Then we have one with these sisters and most of our kids. That's fun at Christmas time.

I have one with me and my 2 sons. Rarely used.

Susu49 · 03/03/2022 16:00

We have two but I've not been invited to the second, which is the more active.

sofakingcool · 03/03/2022 16:01

I'm on 5 -

Me, DH, 2 sons

Me and parents

Me, DH, mum, Dad, brothers and one girlfriend

Me, DH, brother in law and sister in law

Me, DH, brother in law, sister in law, DH's step mum and step sister

The only one I really like is the one with brother/sister in law. The rest are pretty boring Grin

I can honestly say that no one in our long-established family group has ever posted anything that could remotely be viewed as 'showing off'. It's more news items people think others might find interesting, local events you might have overlooked, or my brother saying he's in A and E because he tried to do tree surgery and wasn't careful enough. That kind of thing.
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 03/03/2022 16:05

Only with DH and the DC. My Mum heard us mention it and was quite offended that she wasn't on the 'family' WhatsApp, but I pointed out that it was mostly 'who's picking me up' and 'what time is football training' so not relevant to her.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/03/2022 16:06

Dd set up one for the 3 of us. Dh, dd and me.

RewildingAmbridge · 03/03/2022 16:07

Yep one that's me DH DB SIL DM DF, one that's me DH MIL FIL, one that's me DB DM my gran, uncle, aunt and two cousins was originally to make funeral arrangements for my grandpa but we all use it to keep in touch with Grandma and each other.
Also one for DM MIL DH and me which is for childcare purposes.
No flouncing and a few messages on the first two most days but not every day. Others are less frequent but have flurries of activity
