Another payrise....

I can appreciate it's independently set and in line with other public sector workers (apparently!) but what the heck?!

At 2.7% it’s way below inflation. I think it’s fair actually.

worriedandannoyed · 01/03/2022 18:24

They sneaked this in amongst today's awful news didn't they...

Porfre · 01/03/2022 18:25

What other public services have had a pay rise at that level?
Overthebow · 01/03/2022 18:29

@Porfre the government have recommended that NHS staff get 3%.

DamnUserName21 · 01/03/2022 18:29

I think it's a slap in the face to those on stagnant wages and benefits who are struggling to cover their bills....

Aren't we still in austerity-how can austerity never seems to apply to MP payrises?!

Oh yes, I look forward to my 2.7% payrise as a public sector worker.

AprilShowers82 · 01/03/2022 18:35

NHS worker here. They can all go and fuck themselves. Smile

PonyPatter44 · 01/03/2022 18:35

We're all public sector in this house - i very much doubt we'll have a sniff of a 2.7% pay rise!

Iputthetrampintrampoline · 01/03/2022 18:35

I am torn between thinking this is bad timing and vomit inducing. People are on their arse and do not have the perks or huge expense accounts like these lot do.

It’s the huge expenses they can claim that does it for me. When I have to pay £30 per month to park at work, can’t even find a parking space every day and recently got a ticket which will come out of my own pocket, whilst parked in a work car park.
Elieza · 01/03/2022 18:43

Inflations at 7% i think so anything less than that to anyone is effectively a pay cut :-(

AprilShowers82 · 01/03/2022 18:45

Elieza look at what they can claim for meals, travel and homes. They’ll get no :-( from me. Especially after the shit show that has been the last two years.

mumoffloofs · 01/03/2022 18:48

Public sector here, not had anything close to a 2% rise for years. Last year pay was frozen. All in it together hey?

Neolara · 01/03/2022 18:49

I'm public sector. I found out today our pay rise is 1.75%. So, given inflation, a pay fall.

MaizeAmaze · 01/03/2022 18:49

Both DH and I would be delighted with a public sector rise of 2.7%. Neither of us have had anything since we started these jobs (2019 and 2020)

Elieza · 01/03/2022 18:57

@April, I was more thinking of civil servants and those on normal salaries than MPs tbh!

Even a 1% pay rise to someone on 75k or whatever is vastly different to the 1% the tea boy gets in his pay packet.

MsTSwift · 01/03/2022 18:57

I think it’s fair. Less than a head teacher!

gwilt · 01/03/2022 19:01

Teacher. 0% Smile

HandlebarLadyTash · 01/03/2022 19:02

No, for MPs the salary is plenty height enough.
They claim expenses above & beyond expenses that other people in work can claim.
Most of them are shit at their job.
Plenty of them cant be doing the job full time as they have second jobs

LondonQueen · 01/03/2022 19:03

Teacher here; they seem to have forgotten my pay rise again. Grin

FizzyTango · 01/03/2022 19:04

Public sector here (sort of - organisation is directly funded by the governement). No pay rise since 2019. Pay currently frozen until 2023 earliest.
MPs should fuck off with their pay rise. My organisation has directly been told by the government to freeze pay, so it smacks of double standard.

Er, no. We're not still in austerity.
Darbs76 · 01/03/2022 19:16

They shouldn’t accept a pay rise of higher than the public servants. It’s not right

Rosebell75 · 01/03/2022 19:23

Social housing and 4% rise here.

The increase isn’t set by MPs, it’s an independent body and Boris Johnson has said he disagrees (as did Keir Starmer). The only pay they potentially influence is ministers pay and that’s been frozen.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 01/03/2022 19:23

I work in local government our 2021 pay award was finally agreed yesterday and we are only getting 1.75% compared to MP's 2.7% 😡

One rule for them and another for others!
