Have you ever had a womb biopsy

Pinkgin9 · 28/02/2022 12:40

I'm booked in tomorrow for a womb biopsy and coil fitting due to anemia, bad periods and hospital stays! I'm allowed to say no thank you to any of the procedure. I have read online that its extremely painful to some women and it says the same in the booklet I've been given. I just thought someone might have experience in this. Thank you.

I had one during a gynaecology appointment without any notice of it which I suppose was better because I didn't have time to google it. It was definitely uncomfortable but not too painful. They had to go in and out a couple of times to get enough of a sample. I had some bleeding and cramps after so take a pad with you and maybe take a couple of paracetamol before you go. Good luck Flowers

Pinkgin9 · 28/02/2022 12:59

Thank you. Did you feel sick or faint etc? I will definitely take some pain relief before hand.

I have them regularly (twice a year). I usually take ibuprofen and paracetamol before and it’s bearable. Sometimes they use local anaesthetic gel.

It is generally very quick.

Tropicalsunshine · 28/02/2022 13:06

I had one last year- the staff were very kind and efficient. They gave me gas and air for the painful bit- the doctor counted down from 10- so it's only 10 seconds! It was actually fine.
I did feel quite delicate after and they said not to drive. The spotting lasted less than a day.

nicknamehelp · 28/02/2022 13:17

I've had a couple and not nice but over quickly and pain was manageable. I would as you know its coming take a paracetamol just before. I also had bad period type pain for a few days afterwards and needed to rest a bit.

TakeMe2Insanity · 28/02/2022 13:25

I had one under anaesthetic part of the process was scar tissue removal. I was a bit sore on the day but no pain killers needed afterwards.

frostedfruit · 28/02/2022 13:31

I had one last week! Took 2 ibuptofen an hour beforehand. The nurses were lovely, did everything they could to take my mind off it. It wasn't painful just very uncomfortable for a very short amount of time - 20 seconds or so as they're getting the speculum in the right place. The whole thing took 5 minutes. My boyfriend drove me home and I was glad he did as I felt a bit wobbly and shaky afterwards. Slight pinching pains in my tummy for 24 hours but all settled down quickly. I basically lay on the settee for the rest of the day. I'd be ok having it again if I needed it.

Ohdofuckofdear · 28/02/2022 13:39

I've had one and honestly it didn't hurt at all and I have fibromyalgia and I'm disabled and very I'll and I was fine having it done and afterwards .

It was the same with the coil and it was lucky I had it done when I did because my womb was so much thicker than it should have been and left would have left me very very vunerable when it comes to cancer, I've been really lucky I barely bleed now and not every month, before this it honestly looked like I wasn't going to stop bleeding, I had to wear maternity pads,2 at a time and I had to change them every hour.

Having the biopsy and the coil have saved me.

Good luck with it and let them know your concerned, they will help you and talk through it all with you

Pinkgin9 · 28/02/2022 13:40

Thank you. I'm just getting myself up. On forums I've found absolute horror stories. I can handle a few seconds of pain. Is that basically what it is? Did any of you feel sick et

They warned me that it can make some people feel nauseous but I never have.

GCMM · 28/02/2022 14:03

I had read that it was extremely painful, so I went expecting that. But it wasn't at all. Uncomfortable, unpleasant maybe, but I have had smear tests which were worse.

frostedfruit · 28/02/2022 14:05

Yes OP, a few seconds of being quite uncomfortable - lots of pushing and shoving to get the speculum in situ. No sickness at all. I had the mirena coil put in too due to 6 months of excessive bleeding. Its a bit early to tell s it was only 4 days ago but I'm really hoping this sorts me out. Don't worry at all, a few seconds of being uncomfortable then its all done.

Pinkgin9 · 28/02/2022 16:13

Thank you. Oh I hope the coil helps me. My body was struggling badly just before Christmas. Ended up in hospital. Got the first bed. 2 bags of blood pumped in. Heart was struggling and had all the symptoms like whooshing head dizzy, weak, lungs felt half empty. I've never got on with hormone tablets. They give me sickness and low moods and panic attacks. But they have assured me this is localised and doesn't tend to affect the body and mind.

I had one. It was painful but only for a minute or so. I would take paracetamol and ibuprofen 45 minutes beforehand.

I had one and despite being a giant wuss about pain, I genuinely didn't feel anything other than a second or so of pressure (actually just pressure, not like when they lie and say it won't hurt and it does). It was achy afterward, like medium-bad period pain (but if you're used to bad periods anyway, hopefully this won't be anywhere near that level for you).

The coil wasn't much fun going in, but it's bearable and over very quickly, and if it helps you'll only have to get it replaced every 5 years or so which is great!

Choccorocco · 28/02/2022 18:10

I’ve had coil and biopsy. Take paracetamol and ibuprofen 45 mins beforehand. I didn’t the first time and found it painful and was shaky afterwards although apparently my coil fitting was the longest that they had ever done so I doubt you’ll be worse!
I took painkillers before the biopsy, again it took a long time because of my particular issues and they had to use different / extra instruments. The painkillers made it totally bearable apart from a rather sustained wince - they chat with you while it is going on to take your mind off it, I took some deep breaths - and I took a flask of tea so I could sit in the car afterwards and calm down.
Don’t be in a hurry to get anywhere after so you can chill out till you feel better and I am sure you will be fine.
The coil has been amazing, completely stopped my very heavy periods and hopefully therefore previously ongoing loss of iron. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Pinkgin9 · 01/03/2022 08:19

Thank you ladies. I'm so so nervous this morning. Hoping the coil affects me positively as if it works for me my life will be so much better.

I had one for exactly the same reasons as you are having it done. I was surprised that it was so painful, but the pain was very fleeting, more like a very sharp pain that made me gasp but then followed by a dull ache for a couple of hours. I did t take any pain relief beforehand as I didn’t realise it might hurt! My periods took about 4 months to stop completely - the difference it made to my life was immeasurable.
showmethegin · 01/03/2022 08:27

I've had one and it was really really ok OP and I'm a total wuss!

  • take 2 paracetamol and 2 Ibuprofen an hour before
  • Have the gas and air! I did and started it before they had done anything, actually didn't feel anything
frostedfruit · 01/03/2022 23:20

How did it go @Pinkgin9 ?

Thursa · 01/03/2022 23:56

I had it done once, and despite me being a huge coward about all things medical, it was painless and nothing to worry about. Felt fine afterwards.

valerianaofficiana · 02/03/2022 00:02

I have had it done, it was more uncomfortable than painful. Don't worry, I'll be alright Smile

valerianaofficiana · 02/03/2022 00:09

It will be alright. Well,so will I, hopefully 😔
