Have you ever had a womb biopsy

I'm booked in tomorrow for a womb biopsy and coil fitting due to anemia, bad periods and hospital stays! I'm allowed to say no thank you to any of the procedure. I have read online that its extremely painful to some women and it says the same in the booklet I've been given. I just thought someone might have experience in this. Thank you.

I had one quite a few years ago. It was uncomfortable getting it done but not too painful. Afterwards it was quite painful like a heavy period pain which it probably was because the procedure brought my very late period on. The pain subsided to normal period pain within about 24 hours.
I took some painkiller before the procedure which I think helped.

Oh and my mum had one fairly recently and was absolutely fine. A bit uncomfortable like when you get a smear test but that was it.

Courtjobby · 02/03/2022 00:45

I had one last week,it was barely a thing.

I've had it. No pain was over easily. Coil fitted.

Today I've got lots of cramps around the left side of my womb and bleeding. Think that's the coil?

Yes well done pinkgin! The cramping could be where they took the biopsy, or the coil settling in. I had a picking feeling on my right side for a couple of days too. I'm 6 days later and no bleeding or unusual sensations at all now

Great news! Yes, I had cramps for about 3 days. Don’t worry x

I'm slightly warm too. Feel like I have a mild virus? Any ideas?

I had 3 womb biopsies, in my 50s (62 now), and I'm sorry to say that I found them excruciating. I had a local anaesthetic injection into my cervix for the last one, beforehand, which made no difference at all.

Good luck, I hope it goes well for you. If nothing else, it shouldn't take very long for it to be done.

Just noticed you've had it one. Hope things are well x

I had quite bad discomfort but I wouldn't call it pain. It just felt weird and not pleasant. I didn't feel sick.

WeirdlyKind · 02/03/2022 20:49

I'd be worried about a possible infection with a temp - maybe give the ward a ring (or 111). Better to get checked out then not imo!

VestaTilley · 02/03/2022 21:09

I had a punch biopsy (quick flinch but not painful for long) and a LLETZ biopsy - for that they should inject local anaesthetic in to your cervix. They did for me and it was fine, didn’t feel a thing. It hurts when they inject you, then you feel nothing.

Not worth having a GA in my view for a LLETZ biopsy, but every woman is different and needs different things. Some light bleeding afterwards, but nothing too bad. Good luck!

cansu · 02/03/2022 21:19

yes, it was a bit uncomfortable but fine. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

superplumb · 03/03/2022 19:14

I went for a check up as I had been bleeding randomly for ages. He decided then and there ti take a sample and it was the worst pain I ever imagined. In fact he didnt finish because I told him to stop. I had t the chance to take painkillers nor was a local offered . It may be my issues which caused the pain but in future I'd take pain killers before and ask for sedation and or local
