To feel irked when people have full on conversations on FaceTime in a public rest area?

I was at training last week.
Every break and lunchtime there were at least 2 people having full on FaceTime conversations with people in the rest area.
About shite though.
Nothing of importance was discussed, just what you doing? Has the dog been out? what shall we have for tea? (No MH issues btw)
These convos went on for the entirety of the breaks.
Loud.
It bloody ruined peaceful breaks on a tough and intensely packed training course.
It was impossible to have conversations with others on the course.
It’s antisocial & selfish isn’t it?
Infringing on every single other person there.
Why the fuck do people think this is ok? Go and do it somewhere else ffs.

Show me my arse if you don’t mind this, but it got right on my nerves.

Yes it can be annoying but if its easy for them to go elsewhere you could too....

Toomanypeople · 28/02/2022 07:27

I agree, I've had it on buses and trains where people seem to think we all want to hear the entire loud conversation! If someone FaceTimed me in a public place I would call them back later

Creeeper · 28/02/2022 07:29

Yeah it is so annoying, people do not need to be in contact this much during the day. A text is absolutely fine.

Aren’t they embarrassed for people to hear their boring conversation too?

ShittyFingers · 28/02/2022 07:29

I hate FaceTime at the best of times, can’t understand why people need to video call to talk shite. Reminds me of Dom Jolly with his giant phone “HELLO?? YEAH IM IN THE LIBRARY! I HAVE TO BE QUIET!!”

Translates to “everyone look at me, I’m on the phone! Aren’t I special!”

sandgrown · 28/02/2022 07:29

Why should the OP go elsewhere if she was in the official “rest” area?

SpecialSexBlanket · 28/02/2022 07:30

YANBU. It's the self centered behaviour of people, doing what they like, when they like. It's why you have people on trains playing music, videos etc out loud. Kids in restaurants on tablets with no headphones etc.

daisypond · 28/02/2022 07:31

Is the rest area a designated quiet area? If not, people can do what they like during their breaks. Maybe chatting to a friend on FaceTime is what they want to do for a bit of r&r.

DDivaStar · 28/02/2022 07:33

@sandgrown

Its a rest area not a quiet area i assume.

There could just have easily been 2 people chatting there in the room. Unless its stipulated as a quiet area they are entitled to talk. If you want peace and solitude go somewhere away from people.

Momicrone · 28/02/2022 07:34

Daisypond so it's OK for me to play loud music or watch a movie? Public face timers are rude self centred entitled knobs

babyjellyfish · 28/02/2022 07:37

The person who would otherwise be disturbing others is the one who needs to go somewhere else, not the person using the rest area for the purpose for which it was intended.

Or they could just send a text, like a normal person.

grapewines · 28/02/2022 07:39

People who facetime/has speaker on phone in public areas and on the bus and train are annoying as all hell. See also blasting music on the bus and train.

No one wants to hear it.

Oh god, you're one of those people.
Wintersbone · 28/02/2022 07:40

Public FaceTiming is just odd. They invariably have the volume cranked all the way up so the person on the other end is being broadcast. Someone behind me in the coffee queue at the airport at 7am did this abs he was getting no end of dirty looks.

DDivaStar · 28/02/2022 07:42

We appear to have different views on how a rest area can be used. Unless stipulated as a quiet area I wouldn't expect everyone to sit in silence.

Allelbowsandtoes · 28/02/2022 07:43

It is incredibly annoying. See also people who watch videos on their phone really loudly on the bus.
Could you not have said something though?

Infinitemoon · 28/02/2022 07:44

YANBU I hate it too but tiktok is worse or just singing along to random music on their phone. Confused

Momicrone · 28/02/2022 07:45

Drive, you are one of those people

Erm because noise affects people in different ways and is stressful. I work in a busy environment and need to relax on my break - loud tiktok videos stress me out.

Read the room. A small number of people do this and think it is OK.

Everyone else secretly wants to stab them.

ANameChangeAgain · 28/02/2022 07:47

I would personally want to keep my conversation to myself, but having someone facetime nearby wouldn't bother me any more than having two people next to me having a conversation.

Infinitemoon · 28/02/2022 07:48

I don't mind people chatting or having a joke but music etc and facetiming etc is horrible for those around.

TravelDreamLife · 28/02/2022 07:51

Yes it's rubbish. I also hate those who bring their loud music to quiet parks tho. I go their for peace. Not to listen to your thumping rap music.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/02/2022 07:52

One of the many curses of YouTube. I hate when people have calls on speaker and walk around with their phone flat on their hand talking at it. They do it on YouTube because the viewer has to be able to hear both sides of the conversation. In real life we don't, so put the phone next to your head and talk into it like a normal person!

Associatepeggy · 28/02/2022 07:53

Its absolutely rude. It would be less intrusive if they just phoned the person.
Why the need for face time?
