Where do those with a very high salary…

… hang out!

Ok, my question is slightly more specific than that!

My BF has a company and will soon specialise in services to those high up in the corporate bubble. Think similar to coaching. It’s likely clients may pay out of their own pocket rather than through work (think several thousand £ a month, so not small change!).

To the question, any suggestions on how brand awareness can be built other than personal referrals etc?! Not London based so ideally online.

Having been a SAHM for yonks, I’m totally out of touch! Don’t think my IG scrolling is quite the target audience!

OP posts:

I'm struggling to imagine what it is too. It's easier if a company pays, and then puts the cost under training, or staff welfare, or some other vague expense category.

ihatethecold · 26/02/2022 13:58

Dh works for a multi billion dollar company and is a high earner.
He’s gets all these added extras as a perk of the job.
He doesn’t need to go spend money finding advice.
I would say’s it’s the corporation’s your BF should target.

Savoury · 26/02/2022 14:07

It could be anything so why are we guessing? Sourcing high value vintage cars or watches, designing alarm systems, training guard dogs who double as family pets, moving boats around Europe.. I’ve no idea everything thinks it has to be coaching.

OP think carefully about the service and go from there. If moving boats around Europe, then the London Boat Show or sponsor boat crew. If designing sophisticated alarm systems, get in with a top end security firm. Put the product first, not the person!

Stompythedinosaur · 26/02/2022 14:08

I hope this business has a water tight business plan and has gained third party interest - the quality of a business idea is almost irrelevant if you are lacking details like how to access an audience!

I'd be expecting relevent investors to support in accessing markets if it is a niche area.

Xenia · 26/02/2022 14:14

At one point I used Quintessentially.com for various services who were quite good.
Also people saying the rich have employers who pay them - that is not the case for those of us who are self employed.

purplesequins · 26/02/2022 14:16

@Ipadflowers

Why would people who are capable enough to get that high up the corporate bubble that they can spend several thousand a month like this need coaching from your boyfriend? Has he ran a global corporation? I assume so? They will take coaching from peers. And if so then he knows how to reach them and doesn’t need random mumsnetters to tell him how do it?

This is quite odd.

time
networking costs time.
better pay someone for private members privilege than having to spend time doing it.

Iamthewombat · 26/02/2022 14:19

@Ocsetldil

We were given an in-depth list of T&Cs when joining Soho House and the main one is not to approach people you do not know personally. You have to wait to introduced by a mutual friend. This rule is designed to stop people touting for business.
Quite right. I can’t imagine that the members would appreciate paying thousands in subscriptions to be bothered by people trying to flog them stuff. It’s an excruciating thought.
Whadda · 26/02/2022 14:24

@nanbread

Not professional football-level salaries but I earn six figures and am struggling to think of something work-related that a) costs thousands a month, and b) that I’d pay for myself.

Personal training, wellbeing, nutritionist?

For thousands a month per individual?

We have a gym in work and PTs, as a perk. Lots of well-being stuff too. As a company, we pay a few thousand a month to keep all of this running, it costs per little per employee.

PerditaPerdita · 26/02/2022 14:32

Is he offering sexual services by any chance?

MsMeNz · 26/02/2022 14:45

The personal "coaching" (all types) market is very highly saturated, dime a dozen, I know quite a few including ones that work with C level people, and most of them even the successful ones often work a day job too or at least pick up contracts doing other stuff.

Unless he already has people lining up as he's an absolute super star who's written best selling books I doubt he'll be earning that type of money. But saying that who knows maybe he's the 1 in 10 thousand 🤷

Ipadflowers · 26/02/2022 14:58

What? Anyone who has reached a level in the corporate world where they can afford to spend thousands every month on whatever this is, already has a network. Plus rhe op has not said what it was. She said it was coaching and has now said it’s not, so none of us know what this dude is offering to a very small niche market of high net worth individuals.

Ipadflowers · 26/02/2022 15:00

Plus let’s face it if he was any good at networking he’d not be getting his girlfriend to ask mumsnetters how to reach high net worth individuals.

Personal training or nutrition advice costing THOUSANDS a month?!

Our annual income is around £300k and there’s no way we’d be spending that kind of cash on those things (or coaching).

Goldenharp · 26/02/2022 15:39

He should read "The Millionaire Next Door" book where a couple of college professors looked at this very question. They discovered the high net worth individuals were cheap, very cheap and very resistant to paying for anything excessive. I can't think of something I would spend thousands of pounds per month on out of my own funds. I think there might be a very small target market.

MiddleParking · 26/02/2022 16:18

Have you seen Inventing Anna on Netflix OP? It might be instructive to your boyfriend.

Wannakisstheteacher · 26/02/2022 16:30

I can’t believe anyone is feeding this fantasy Hmm

Borracha · 26/02/2022 16:51

In my previous role, we used to target HNWIs by placing our material in airport lounges and advertising in in-flight magazines.

VladmirsPoutine · 26/02/2022 17:17

Some of the most stingiest people are incredibly rich. You need to research the market.

StScholastica · 26/02/2022 17:33

I think given the current political climate its a bit precarious to be starting a business targeting high wealth individuals, aren't they all crawling back to Russia?
I do actually know one person who has done very well offering personal services to business leaders, but she is a prostitute.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 26/02/2022 17:36

Well, mine is currently on the sofa next to me! He doesn't really buy into all that kind of stuff, and likes having breakfast with his mates, his pets and a couple of hobbies. He's very down-to-earth! He got where he is himself, no need for coaching.

Ocsetldil · 26/02/2022 18:52

Spat my Chardonnay out there @StScholastica.

Henlie · 26/02/2022 18:56

🤣🤣

hibbledibble · 26/02/2022 19:39

I find it rather pointless when people post here asking for recommendations, while not disclosing what they are asking for recommendations for. 'Similar to coaching'??

OfstedOffred · 26/02/2022 20:10

will soon specialise in services to those high up in the corporate bubble. Think similar to coaching.

I can't think of what services could be provided that any high earners I know would be willing to pay thousands a month, that wouldn't entail the provider of the service having a skillset/experience that meant they were already at that income bracket/moving in those circles themselves

OfstedOffred · 26/02/2022 20:11

Oh and DH and I have pretty high incomes and like many high earners we are skinflints.

The only thing we spend thousands a month on is mortgage.
