She seems to think she's been wronged in some way. I feel a bit cringe for her actually.

Can't understand why anyone would go to the papers to let the whole world know they were so badly behaved they were removed from the theatre. Hmm
There is a LOT of poor behaviour in the theatre these days, that people get away with more and more, so to reach a level where she was warned, carried on, people complained and she eventually had to be removed must have been bad.
"Singing under her mask" "tapping her finger" my arse.

Kyiv · 26/02/2022 12:41

I expect she probably went and told her family what they'd said to her and took the attitude of "fuck them, I've paid for my ticket and I'll do what I want."

AlbertCampion · 26/02/2022 12:42

I went to a Tim Minchin concert once where we were sitting behind a guy who did this. He sang along loudly and out of tune to all the songs. I asked him to be quiet and he laughed in my face. FoH staff had a word in the interval and thankfully he calmed down in the second half but it really spoiled the first half of the show. I don't get people who do this - they must genuinely believe that people in the audience around them are happy to pay hundreds of pounds to listen to them sing off-key. The arrogance is breathtaking.

Zilla1 · 26/02/2022 12:44

Wasn't it an audition? How is a talented singer who missed out on stage school meant to achieve her dreams?

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/02/2022 12:45

Because she’s a drama queen.

Joinedforthis22 · 26/02/2022 12:45

It depends on the misical, surely? I have fond memories of seeing We Will Rock You at the Playhouse and everyone was well behaved until the end when we all let rip with We Are The Champions!

Which is fine, it's the finale and some musicals encourage you to join in, there is a difference between that and singing along during the story.

WouldIwasShookspeared · 26/02/2022 12:46

She should have shut up when she was told to shut up.

Momicrone · 26/02/2022 12:46

I feel a bit cringe that you think she's a bit cringe

cuno · 26/02/2022 12:48

I'd be pissed off if I was stuck behind that twat waving her arms about and singing when I paid good money for my tickets!

Riseholme · 26/02/2022 12:51

The wonderful Martin Jarvis tells how as a young student at RADA some of them were asked to be toreadors in a production of Carmen at Covent Garden.
They were told explicitly no singing.
As the scene progressed and the chorus were singing Toreador, Martin Jarvis forgot himself and sang along.
When he got off stage a furious choral director hissed at him ‘you were singing. No singing.’

handslikecowstits · 26/02/2022 12:53

I'll bet she was giving it full air guitar and bellowing.

ellie21 · 26/02/2022 12:54

Oh God. This happened to us this week at the Gary Barlow show in Salford.
Very loud man who clearly thought he was at a concert rather than a theatre show and sang really really badly all the way through. He also stopped the show by shouting out to GB that he thought he was a legend. Twice.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 26/02/2022 12:58

I've been to a Grease singalong, it was brilliant - you were actively encouraged ti wave hankies at Thunder Road, cry loudly at Hopelessly Devoted, and sing and even dance in the Aisle if you wanted to at songs like Greased Lightnin 😂
An actual theatre show though, where she said she was waving her arms about for a bit and singing along under her mask (hiw loud WAS she to be heard?!)
No, sit down and shut up.
Very irritating for others trying to enjoy the show!!!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/02/2022 13:02

FFS leave the poor woman alone. She was singing at a theatre. I dont see the crime. 8 men on to one woman sounds pretty thuggish to me. I can guarantee if it was a 10 of pissed burly blokes they'd have turned a blind eye.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/02/2022 13:06

Can't understand why anyone would go to the papers to let the whole world know they were so badly behaved they were removed from the theatre.

For some reason, that instantly reminded me of the time in The Simpsons where Homer exclaimed "Just once, I'd like someone to call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene!' ".

ImNotDancing · 26/02/2022 13:07

@C152

Was she wrong though? The audience are encouraged to sing during Mama Mia and similar performances - isn't this much the same thing? (Obviously you wouldn't be singing along during a play, but this was a muscial - I thought that was considered part of the fun of going to a musical?) Either her behaviour must have been sigificantly more distracting than she thought, or the ushers overreacted; possibly a bit of both from the limited information available.
Have you never been to a musical before
Clawdy · 26/02/2022 13:09

I don't see the crime not a crime obviously, but bloody annoying when you've paid for tickets, and want to hear the actual actors and singers! I've seen Bat Out Of Hell a few times, and love it, and there is always an announcement at the beginning asking people to be sensible about singing. This stupid woman wasn't.

BestKnitterInScotland · 26/02/2022 13:10

I was at a production of Mamma Mia in the same theatre a couple of years ago and was sitting in front of a similar stupid bat who thought I was there to hear her singing rather than the cast.

Totally selfish behaviour.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 26/02/2022 13:12

I went to see Swan Lake once and every time Von Rothbart came on stage a group of people booed and hissed, panto style.

Loopytiles · 26/02/2022 13:12

Not a crime, but good reason to be made to leave.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 26/02/2022 13:12

This
I've been to tons, you definitely don't sing along and wave your arms about at them!
You do if it's billed as an singalong, but not musicals.
I can imagine getting pretty pissed off if somebody in front kept doing that, it'd no doubt block your view and tickets can cost a bloody fortune!

BestKnitterInScotland · 26/02/2022 13:16

No - this is not right.

Mamma Mia has a finale section where the cast dress up in the sparkly jumpsuits and perform - that's a free for all, join in moment. Other musicals are similar - think Bat out of Hell has a similar format.

During the rest of the performance the cast do the singing, not the audience. Do you know how much it costs to see a musical live? DD and I are going to Hairspray next month, tickets were upwards of £40 each.

Noname1999 · 26/02/2022 13:18

££ and no self awareness. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Ori18 · 26/02/2022 13:21

She’s an entitled drama queen who should have been booted out in the first half. Why are some people so arrogant, disturbing those around them with their me-centric actions. Not good

PainterMummy · 26/02/2022 13:21

Some shows encourage this (pre covid) and some did not. I love musicals and have been to many.

However, as a hearing impaired person, I would not be very happy hearing her over the performers nor someone dancing in their seat blocking my view of the performance

Selfish woman. She can sing in her head and not disturb anyone else.
