To think pictures of your child with food smeared all over its face are gross??

OK, I admit I'm not the most maternal person, but I like kids in small doses. Heck I even like seeing the odd photo now and again. Oversharers can get a bit annoying but heck - I'll indulge it.

But what on earth makes you think I want to see pictures of your child with its face covered in food? Mouth agape with half chewed mush, a kaleidoscope of liquefied food and saliva dribbling down its chin. It's not cute. It's not endearing. It's about as appealing as sending me a picture of its unwiped behind.

Maybe I'm just a bit too OCD but I honestly I really don't get why this is 'a thing'.

ps. I also have no wish to know the blow-by-blow account of your child's potty training either. TMI.

Different strokes for different folks.

This won't help solve your problem though. You need to go direct to whoever is sending you these pictures and ask them to stop. Or stop looking at their social media if it's a social media based problem.

Lime37 · 24/02/2022 22:24

Oh it’s absolutely disgusting I don’t know why people think it’s cute

ThirdElephant · 24/02/2022 22:24

YABU. It's generally considered poor form to refer to a child as 'it'. You'd do better to say, 'What on Earth makes you think I want to see pictures of your child with their face covered with food?'

toastofthetown · 24/02/2022 22:28

YANBU. It’s repulsive. I don’t want to see anyone of any age with food smeared on their face.

Luckingfovely · 24/02/2022 22:33

It's just grim. Precious child syndrome, and attention seeking. If you're seeing these on social media, just block or mute the idiot. There's no other answer.

monroeagogo · 24/02/2022 22:34

Oh totally. Just disgusting. A parent in my core WhatsApp friendship group does this and it's just gross

GraffitiNob · 24/02/2022 22:34

I have kids, and yet I still find it utterly gross. It's hard enough having to deal with said mess when it's your own child. They have to eat. But there don't need to be photos of it. Ick.

EssexLioness · 24/02/2022 22:47

YANBU, it’s disgusting and turns my stomach. I block people on social media who do this. Even worse is when the pic shows food smushed in their hands and all over their clothes etc too 🤢

JenniferBarkley · 24/02/2022 22:48

Oh I love a child covered in food. When they've really loved a meal and devoured it. But I'm not bothered by food mess etc in general.

Aquamarine1029 · 24/02/2022 22:49

It's absolutely revolting. Equally as revolting as when parents allow their children to run around with dirty faces and hands.

OkOkWhatsNext · 24/02/2022 22:54

Oh come on. A baby with food smeared over them is cute. They’ve done their best at trying to get it into their mouth, they’ve failed terribly, they’re usually very pleased with themselves…nothing wrong with it.

DigitalGoat · 24/02/2022 22:56

I saw your thread title and came straight here to agree with you OP, YANBU. Turns my stomach.

SweatyPie · 24/02/2022 22:57

Such strong reactions to a baby. It's food not feces, come on ladies.

cuno · 24/02/2022 22:57

A child or a baby that's being weaned? There's a crucial difference and I can't imagine why people would post pictures of the former, or why a child would get into such a mess in the first place. I'm not on social media though. But if you're talking about literal babies then I do think you need to get a grip.

IntrovertedExtrovert1 · 24/02/2022 23:07

If it’s social media, then block them, it’s their social media so they can post what they like. I post pictures to my SM accounts of my DC not solely with the intention for others to see but so I can look back and reminisce. If it’s being sent directly to you then ask them to stop?

Children get messy, if they’re playing with their food then they are learning, it’s expressive and can be funny to the parents. I personally hate seeing the pictures of children always all neat and tidy, because erm, that’s not reality.

OkThenJustChill · 24/02/2022 23:23

How interesting to see these responses! I don't post them but they don't bother me. I think they are quite cute.

BearOfEasttown · 24/02/2022 23:23

I agree @KookyNotOoky it's minging. Like anything on TV with someone eating, and they show their mouth close up - boak - or someone's 'spit strings' or drool, vom! OR that awful advert for corsodol where someone spits blood into the sink. VILE!

I also loathe it when people are kissing on TV and you can hear the slurping and smacking of them kissing. BLEH!

Wavypurple · 24/02/2022 23:47

I’m so glad I’m not the only one that thinks this, felt like a monster because I also think the same thing.

I absolutely hate pictures like this, just so so so gross. It could be the cutest kid ever I just absolutely am so disgusted when I see posts like that. Whhhhyyy would anyone want to see it?! I do understand that to parents their children are perfect in every way but come on.

Ericaequites · 24/02/2022 23:49

It’s not an appropriate subject for a picture, and the child will find it embarrassing later on.

givemeallthecheese · 24/02/2022 23:49

Absolutely bogging OP. Can't stand it. Not cute at all

whumpthereitis · 25/02/2022 00:01

YANBU. It’s fucking gross.

LoveFall · 25/02/2022 00:12

Perhaps this is just a "tradition" where I live, but it is very commonplace to have a first birthday picture with cake all over the child's face. That's the only time though.

DameCelia · 25/02/2022 00:12

Please stop referring to 'being OCD' or 'a bit OCD' about things.
OCD is a crippling illness, you don't joke about being 'a bit cancer' or 'a bit motor neurone disease' so don't do it about a mental illness.

Quite! It's amusing how people try to 'out-gross' each other on here 😂

Lol.
