I work part time- 3 days a week and every other weekend.

I try to keep my house as tidy and clean as possible. I feel like I’m drowning in it.

My husband doesn’t do a lot - that’s a whole other thread!
My daughter is messy but keep reminding myself that toys and glitter won’t be forever and I’ll miss it once it’s gone.

My mum commented on my dust. She told
Me when she was my age it would have been shameful to have a dusty home and a dirty doorstep 😳- I handed her the duster!

Thinking about my mum who is in her 70s- she didn’t have to work. She got engaged and the next day handed her notice in at the factory she worked at. She was going to married therefore didn’t have to work. She didn’t have kids for another 8 years after being married. She and her friends all kept perfect homes because that’s all they had to do (or certainly in my mums case)

Do woman have it harder now? Most of us have to work part or full time. Keep perfect homes, look somewhat presentable.

Social media has also set unrealistic expectations

How do you stay on top of everything?

I don't have it harder because I didn't marry a 1950s husband and he pulls his weight. I don't work due to the kids but he still pulls his weight.

You're working 4 days a week on average so pt but only just. If your DH is leaving it all to you, that's the problem.

I reckon if all these people going in about how long it takes had less cups of tea, and "5 minute breathers" it would be considerably less time to get it done.

Definitely.

What are people doing to make it take so long? Confused

@Cleanbedlinen12

justfrustrated how do you manage to be so efficient? Do you have any tips? I really try, but even without breathers i spend..1 hour cleaning kitchen, 1 hour cooking dinner, 1/2 hour alternating between bathroom/ beds/ hall. Another half hour washing, hanging, folding, putting away. It usually becomes about 3 hours a day, and it still looks a mess. And it is TOTALLY boring.
I don't understand how it takes an hour to clean a domestic kitchen, especially if you're doing it daily?

What are you doing in that hour that takes so long?

Exactly. I could clean the tops, fridge, door fronts, windows and mop the floor in less than an hour and that’s not a daily occurrence.

Actually don’t know! Will go and tackle it now and report back!

I don't agree that it's a full time job. Does that mean some people have two full time jobs, with their actual job then housekeeping on top?your dd is old enough to help. Dh should be helping on his days of/evening.Do little and often. I clean and tidy each night so I'm starting fresh each morning. Can't stand getting up to a messy room. Do jobs daily and don't let them build up.

Running a house is definitely not a full time job

If DH works fulltime.e and you are PT, fair enough you do more, but he should still pull his weight

Little and often is the way to go. And ruthless decluttering eg if kitchen surfaces are clear, it takes seconds to clean them. If you have to move gadgets, jars of cutlery, bottles of sauce / oil, then it takes longer
