bruised coccyx

ThinWomansBrain · 20/02/2022 16:47

I fell over in the park last week, and bruised my coccyx - it still hurts a lot almost a week later, and the discomfort doesn't seem to be reducing - is that normal?

I did this a while back and it was sore for ages!!!

GeneLovesJezebel · 20/02/2022 16:51

I fell on mine and it took about 6 weeks to feel fully better.

Notimeforaname · 20/02/2022 16:51

Normal! God it hurts. I'm sorry for you.

At times moving or coughing I thought my back was broken! Itll probably be another week or so op. Maybe even sore for a couple of weeks. It will ease.

stairgates · 20/02/2022 16:52

Hurt mine in childbirth and took about a year before I didnt have to sit on a special pillow!

Coffeencrochet · 20/02/2022 16:55

I hurt mine during labour and it took almost 2 years to not feel like I was dying whenever I'd move! Started feeling somewhat normal again and then I missed a step going down the stairs a couple weeks again so I'm back to square one Sad

ThinWomansBrain · 20/02/2022 17:00

Thanks everyone
That's reassuring, that it's not weird for it still to be hurting,
I was worried I might have done more serious damage.

It would need a blank tile, but have just realised that coccyx could be a very good word in scrabble Grin

ouch coffeencrochet - that must have been sooo frustrating

It's so painful so Flowers for you.

Keep an eye out for infection and see a Dr early on if you suspect its not just bruising. I bruised my coccyx years ago, battled on through the pain for about a fortnight (couldn't sit down at all) and developed a large lump internally that eventually needed to be drained and packed repeatedly in hospital. Even with local anaesthetic during the procedures it was hands down the most painful thing I have ever been through!

billy1966 · 20/02/2022 17:07

I bounced down a steep stairs 30 years ago and I remember the stiff pain for weeks.

I remember it being so hot too.

I just got on with it as I didn't actually know what I had done🙄early 20's.

It takes a while to heal for sure.

I fell downstairs and was told by A&E expect it to hurt for a while as it has a very poor blood supply and is slow to heal.
They did also say if it still hurts in 6 weeks it’s probably fractured (it did). I still get an occasional ache 4 years later.

caranations · 20/02/2022 17:18

I hurt mine when I fell off a horse. It was two years before I could bend over or put socks on without it hurting.

Lipsandlashes · 20/02/2022 17:21

I hurt mine roller skating (I was 25 and showing off with DH, who was my then boyfriend). It hurt for weeks and I couldn’t sit on the bed properly for a good six months.

Blossombo · 20/02/2022 17:23

@caranations yup! Fell off horse riding about 4 weeks ago, I got over the worst of it or so I thought, getting in and out the car still painful!!

Snozzlemaid · 20/02/2022 17:24

I feel your pain.
I slipped down a couple of stairs this week and the pain is awful. It hurts to walk and I'm struggling to sit comfortably.
I'm waking every time i move at night as well.
It's no fun, is it?

Sprig1 · 20/02/2022 17:24

I did mine falling off a horse on to a road. It took years (probably about 8!) to be completely symptom free. Sorry!

itssquidstella · 20/02/2022 17:28

I hurt mine falling down the stairs drunk in 2010. It was agony for at least a week; I couldn't put any weight on it without it hurting so sitting and lying down were both challenging!

It still feels uncomfortable if I sit in particular positions for too long now - the discomfort has obviously waned over the years but it's not 100% what it was. I think I probably fractured it but I never bothered to get it x-rayed as I’m not sure there's much they can do to fix it.

itwasntaparty · 20/02/2022 17:28

Mine took weeks to recover.

Rightyouarelove · 20/02/2022 17:42

Based on my experience, totally normal. I think I fractured mine in 2017 (or dislocated it). The bruised feeling lasted months and then I was uncomfortable for years when sitting. Weirdly, when I became pregnant (and everything started to move), I had the most crippling pain for about a month (somewhere around the 8 week mark - it was absolutely awful). I started swimming (supposed to help) and something clicked back into place one day. Never had a problem since. It was very weird. Moral of story - if it persists beyond a few weeks ask for an x-ray to make sure it was just a bruise as long term dislocation is to be avoided. They rarely actually do anything with a fracture but better you know so you can watch for over compensation of muscles and joints and seek therapy if you need it.

ThinWomansBrain · 20/02/2022 19:35

no horse riding or drunken parties - I just forgot that the path in the park was muddy and slippery when I spotted one of my friends when I was on my way to work - with his v. cute dog.
I've got a GP appointment in a couple of weeks - I'll mention it then if it doesn't seem to be getting better.
Sympathies to everyone else that's currently suffering.

Off to heat up my wheatbag again.

I have the biggest bruise on mine. It looks like something from a horror film.
Couldn't sit or even turn over in bed for a few days after falling down some steps in the snow.
Landed on the edge of a breezeblock and by fuck did it hurt. I actually sobbed 😭

betterwithtea · 21/02/2022 13:25

Ouch! I fell down our stairs about 2 years ago and the pain was so unbearable I passed out and then threw up everywhere! I was in pain for weeks and screamed every time I got off the sofa or out of the car! I happened to be at the doctor’s about a week later for something else and he told me the best thing to do is rest, ibuprofen and ice packs. Hope you feel better soon x

nuffinimlazyatthemoment · 21/02/2022 14:02

I fell down some stone steps (drunk in heels) when I was about 18. Must have caught it on the edge of the step and I was in agony for about a week and I'd say the discomfort lasted about a year. Couldn't sit in one position for longer than 5 minutes without it hurting.

ThinWomansBrain · 12/03/2022 23:36

Yeah, almost a month since I did it, and it's not 100% better, but much improved.
It hurts to stand up if I've been sitting for more than a few minutes, but juat hurts as I move to standing, and I've not taken pain killers for it in about ten days,
So Flowers for anyone still in pain, but thanks for your messages - encouraged me to sit it out for a while and not be too concerned,

Smallkeys · 12/03/2022 23:40

Yes apparently breaking it is extremely rare I was laughed out of minor injuries for having the audacity to think it was serious

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/03/2022 23:44

Did an embarrassing comedy, full on, legs up in the air slip on ice a couple of years ago, landed smack bang on the coccyx, had to phone for a lift home because I just couldn’t walk without squealing and it didn’t stop hurting for a good six months. Sorry.
