Heart Of Glass makes me want to be violent, I cannot stand it. I’m not sure what it is. But something about the lyrics, voice and tune trigger something inside me. It came on the radio in the delivery room whilst I was in active labour and it made me distressed until it was turned off.

Also, Ed Sheeran’s songs. Mainly due to the weird lyrics. “My bedsheets smell like you.” Wtf? And in a recent one “I want to drink your smile.” How does one ‘drink a smile’? On the rocks? Also the song where he goes on about all of the depressing hardships his (I’m guessing made-up for the song) friends have fallen upon. One doesn’t see his kids, one is divorced, bla bla bla. It annoys me because it’s not his place to go on about their (made-up, in all fairness) problems for a good song. If the friends are real I hope he asked for permission. This is the same song where he goes on about driving 90mph down country lanes. And the less said about Galway Girl the better.

Nine Million Bicycles by Katie Melua…gives me the rage!

ultrablue · 21/02/2022 19:47

@PrincessNutella

Yellow--Coldplay. Imagine. Imagine you're woker than thou. We are the World. Not only do I hate preachy shit where a whole bunch of stars get to feel good about themselves, but every time they repeat the line "It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me," I find myself muttering, "It's you and I, morons. You and I."
Yellow -coldplay

One of my DC came back from a school residential complaining that one of the teachers driving the minibus banned them from singing it for the whole week away,. I can't blame him

HTH1 · 21/02/2022 19:54

Have we had Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Murder on the Dance Floor’? HATE IT and how does she make a British accent sound so s**t on it?

waterlego · 21/02/2022 20:27

@HTH1, ooof yes. I really, really like SEB as a person; she comes across as absolutely lovely, but her accent when she sings, and the lyrics in her songs are unlistenable for me.

Dita73 · 21/02/2022 20:33

Breakfast at Tiffany’s-Deep Blue Something
Tub thumping-Chumbawamba
Can’t bloody stand them!!!!

onlymyselftoanswerto1 · 21/02/2022 21:06

@Wannakisstheteacher I feel the same about AK. She has a lovely voice but shouts her way through her songs. I turn off anytime she comes onto the radio

Onlyhuman123 · 21/02/2022 21:23

Anything by Adele, God I can't stand her.
Call me Al by Paul simon
Walking on sunshine makes me want to punch the radio and lob it out the car window.
Jump (any version)

TheVanguardSix · 21/02/2022 21:36

And for good measure, that detestable Paul McCartney Wonderful Christmas Time monstrosity

It’s insultingly shit, isn’t it?
It’s just got ‘shitty sell-out Christmas royalties cash cow’ written all over it.

ithinkimdone · 21/02/2022 21:58

Ironic by Alanis Morissette

"ITS LIKE RAY EEE AYYYYN"

ithinkimdone · 21/02/2022 22:19

juicylemon · 21/02/2022 22:22

Inkanta · 21/02/2022 22:28

You're so vain - you probably think this song is about you

Inkanta · 21/02/2022 22:34

I've thought of another one - A horse with no name, by America

And anything by Roy Orbison - agree!

They did a great parody of it on Dead Ringers called ‘Five Million Sheds’. Grin ‘There’s five million sheds in Wigan - that’s a fact I’ve just made up’.
Ficti · 21/02/2022 22:51

Anything by Beyonce...god, she's overrated.

EssexLioness · 21/02/2022 23:04

Most songs by Ed Sheeran. Thought the lyrics to Castle on the Hill were ‘he’s the brother of a ghost’, which I think is more poetic.
Also, UB40s ‘Red Rd Wine’, Kylie’s ‘Cant get you out of my head’, most songs by Adele.

Febrier · 21/02/2022 23:12

Blurred Lines.

EssexLioness · 21/02/2022 23:20

Also, Mambo No 5 and anything by Simply Red but especially’Fairground’.
I love most songs by Meatloaf but ‘two out of three’ gets my back up. ‘I want you, I need you… there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you. But don’t feel bad …cos two out of three ain’t bad’. Why is she staying with someone that will never love her? It’s all about his feelings: he wants her, he needs her. She could do so much better (and yes I know it’s not real 😆).

thatdarncat · 21/02/2022 23:27

Shaggy “It Wasn’t Me”. Aye it was, you cheating bastard.
City High “What Would You Do” slagging off strippers and prostitutes whilst happily visiting their respective establishments.
All Phil Collins songs apart from In The Air Tonight.
Jump by Girls Aloud. I can’t communicate how annoyed it makes me.
S Club 7 “Bring it all Back” No thanks.

thatdarncat · 21/02/2022 23:29

@EssexLioness you wash your mouth out with soap regarding Mambo No 5 Grin

MaidenoftheSpear · 21/02/2022 23:31

Tears of a clown by Smokey Robinson- I skip it every time it comes on on DH's driving play list. And Summer Breeze by the Isely Brothers. Yuk!

😆 sorry! I think the tune is fine but the list of women’s names gets on my nerves!

I keep thinking of more songs… Love is all Around by Wet, Wet, Wet and Nine Million Bicycles by Katie Melua. The opening few lines have me mentally rolling my eyes in sheer boredom

Tillow4ever · 21/02/2022 23:39

I can listen to most music (grew up in a pub, so exposed to a wide selection of musical genres) but the only group I would hand on heart say I HATE is The Backstreet Boys (or Crapstreet Boys as I call them to piss my sister off). I just can't stand them at all, and would leave the room to avoid the song if one came on!

For those slating The Beautiful South - whaaaat?! They are brilliant! Some of their album tracks are incredible, they very much say things as they see them, there is a raw honesty in their lyrics.

I can see a theme with a lot of the songs on this thread - very much over played and overrated. If you only heard them occasionally they'd be fine, it's the amount of times you hear them that's the problem.

I will agree with disliking The Only Way is Up by Yazz...... but only because it kept Kylie off the Number 1 spot!

Agree! That's a TUUUUNNNNNE! If that one's on, the volume goes up & the kids are reminding me to keep my hands on the steering wheel.....,
