To miss white wine

Ihaveroyallyscrewedup · 19/02/2022 16:00

I don’t drink often but with age white wine has made me ill so it’s been ten or so years since I’ve had any, today I looked at all the lovely rows of wine and I miss it!
Do I go out, buy a bottle, drink it until my heart is content and hell mend me!

Just drink it, mate. No point in going all dark night of the soul about it!

Hellocatshome · 19/02/2022 16:11

Unless you are an alcoholic just buy the bloomin wine. If you are an alcoholic you do not need it! Go for a nice walk and forget about the wine!

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/02/2022 16:11

Try an organic one. It can lessen the hangover.

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 19/02/2022 16:12

I can’t drink white wine OP. I miss it, but the hangovers are just not worth it. I actually feel like I might die after drinking it. 😄

Soul11Soul · 19/02/2022 16:12

I feel you pain Op. I have developed a weird allergy to red wine. When I drink it now I cough and get a bit wheezy! It's heartbreaking because I LOVE red wine.

Loopytiles · 19/02/2022 16:14

Unless you’ve an alcohol problem a small amount will be fine, no more likely to make you unwell than any other alcohol - your thinking it will is likely just the quantity or placebo effect.

PurpleDaisies · 19/02/2022 16:14

Non alcoholic wine has got a lot better over the years. If it’s actual wine you’re sensitive too, maybe worth a try?

Gardeningdream · 19/02/2022 16:16

@Loveandlimpets

Just drink it, mate. No point in going all dark night of the soul about it!
Comment of the day, couldn’t agree more. 😃😃😃😃

Op it’s a hangover. Not the plague.

TheBestUsernamesAreGone · 19/02/2022 16:16

I can't drink wine any more either OP. No idea why. Two small glasses is enough to leave me in bed all next day. Champagne seems ok though.

Ihaveroyallyscrewedup · 19/02/2022 16:17

I am being lighthearted and I definitely don’t have an alcohol problem, like a pp I just get the most terrible hangover if I drink white wine, I’m off to Google organic ones so thanks for that tip!

Sainsbury's organic wines are drinkable and reasonably priced. I also have to add in a reflux tablet and an antihistamine when I drink, although hrt has lessened my reaction to alcohol. Good luck!

Fayekrista · 19/02/2022 17:03

Maybe not the bottle if you've not drunk for a while or white wine has a particular effect on you... how about a spritzer?
Personally I don't know what it looks like to have wine left in the fridge.... its bought & consumed... there is none left 🤣 (no I don't have an alcohol problem.... I just have never not finished a bottle off!)

OK now I sound like I do lol 🤦‍♀️🤣

Classica · 19/02/2022 17:09

buy an organic wine, have one large glass and see if you feel human the next day.

if feeling human, guzzle the rest

monkeysox · 19/02/2022 17:15

@Soul11Soul you need to avoid the wines with sulphites. They'll be on the label. Hope you can find one without Wink

Twattergy · 19/02/2022 17:18

I can't really process white wine any more either...so I just buy best quality and have max one chilled glass per sitting. Still really enjoyable just not at the quantity I used to down!!!

OneTiredMam · 19/02/2022 17:23

I miss it too!

I used to drink it all the time, nowadays it gives me a 4 day hangover EnvySad

ColourMeExhausted · 19/02/2022 17:31

Same, OP, same! Back in the day white wine was my go to choice of tipple. It was my first date 'brings me luck' drink! Now in my 40s, it gives me indigestion and a horribly painful head.

If I do indulge, I limit myself to a couple of glasses and make sure it's a good quality one. A good Gavi seems to go down ok?
Me and DH have also switched to rose wine as we often find red too heavy...there's a growing choice of rose wines and we enjoy them.

stripeyflowers · 19/02/2022 17:31

I can still drink wine but no more than one medium glass at a time - then no other alcohol in that same evening - just soft drinks.

I started when I was 55 - I had two glasses of wine my heart rate more then doubled and would not come down for nearly 24 hours. It was really scary so I daren't risk it again.

Mummadeze · 19/02/2022 17:35

As someone who feels the same, I say don’t do it. I have just spent two days feeling absolutely rotten for drinking a small amount of alcohol on Thursday. I just can’t tolerate any anymore. I have been binge eating and feeling really down and ill since then. I hadn’t drunk for 4 months before and was feeling so healthy and well. It is so not worth it!!!

WomanStanleyWoman · 19/02/2022 17:35

My friend uses this spray thing that she swears kills her white wine hangovers - let me ask her what it’s called Smile

RoseAndRose · 19/02/2022 17:36

Try it in a spritzer?

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/02/2022 17:55

Worth trying again, it can change

Also - posh wine! Less sediment, less hangover, apparently.

rainyskylight · 19/02/2022 18:00

Another vote here for good quality in small doses. Make sure you’re drinking out of a
glass which doesn’t encourage over pouring. And get a pump wine stopper that takes all the air out of the bottle ~ it keeps wine fresh for days.

Houseplantmad · 19/02/2022 18:12

South African white wine gives me a terrible hangover - even just one glass. I think it's the sulphites. Could it be similar for you?

2bazookas · 19/02/2022 18:12

I'd buy a bottle and enjoy a small glass. See if it still disagrees with you.

In my 20's I gradually acquired a pretty bad seafood allergy, bad enough I was forced to avoid any crab lobster and shellfish at all. bB after a long abstinence (and other medical changes) I found it had disappeared again. Now I eat all seafood as often as I can :-)
