To miss white wine

I don’t drink often but with age white wine has made me ill so it’s been ten or so years since I’ve had any, today I looked at all the lovely rows of wine and I miss it!
Do I go out, buy a bottle, drink it until my heart is content and hell mend me!

@Theimpossiblegirl

Try an organic one. It can lessen the hangover.
I like organic. There aren't that many in the supermarkets but I do agree with that in terms of reducing hangover risk.

I hear you. Cannot tolerate wine at all anymore migraine starts within half an hour and lasts for days.

I find I cope better with gin - less sulphites etc. And there's a couple of very very nice lower voltage gins available in my local which means I can drink it most of the evening without feeling too rough the day after....

Flamingo49 · 19/02/2022 18:30

I understand OP- since having kids i can't tolerate white wine at all and I miss it so much- especially on a warm summer's evening! It's just not worth giving in as I feel absolutely terrible about an hour later (and then have to parent feeling rubbish).

JuergenSchwarzwald · 19/02/2022 18:39

Op it’s a hangover. Not the plague

there are hangover and hangovers. If you have a headache and can still function, that's one thing.

But if I have too much red wine I spend the next day in bed. So I don't.

Strange but when I was peri I couldn't enjoy wine at all and I loved a glass! Now I'm out the other side I can really enjoy a couple of glasses again

Agree with this, or even better if you can find a biodynamic one. When I drink organic white I get no hangover.

I don't drink anything any more and I must admit looking at beer the other day and thinking it looked lovely but it's just not worth it

LondonQueen · 19/02/2022 19:37

More expensive wines are less likely to give you a hangover!

ninjafoodienovice · 19/02/2022 22:56

I have acquired a wine filter. I do look, admittedly, a bit of a nob getting it out at the pub/ restaurant but it does work. It gets rid of the sulphites which I became sensitive to a couple of years ago. I'm 45 so I blame peri menopause.
It doesn't work on fizzy wine so organic Prosecco is the way to go for that

CassieJumped · 19/02/2022 23:14

I think you have to avoid the sulphates? My cousin got a little spray she uses in her glass before she pours the wine in and that seems to help. Not sure what it's called though

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 19/02/2022 23:16

@Loveandlimpets I feel like you are my kind of people.

I’m placemarking for news of the magic spray!

Clovacloud · 19/02/2022 23:33

YANBU! peri menopause gifted me with acid indigestion and painful rosacea if I even take a tiny sip of any wine. I miss it so bloody much.

Anniissa · 19/02/2022 23:41

It depends what caused your original problems with white wine - sometimes these can resolve themselves and it’s all good. I had a couple of years where two or three small glasses of white wine gave me awful acid indigestion and one large glass of red made me feel incredibly sick. A few years later and I could drink both without any I’ll effects some it can change but it totally depends on why you’re having the issues in the first place.

Ihaveroyallyscrewedup · 21/02/2022 00:10

I am organising myself for next weekend, I have ordered the magic spray and have purchased an organic wine and a wine recommended by a mumsnetter, thank you for the helpful tips!
