Music gig at 17 weeks pregnant

Hi just after advice on a dilemma.
Pre pregnancy I agreed to go to a gig with a friend. It's now 2 weeks away. I'll be just over 17 weeks. They've asked if I'm still comfortable going.

On the one hand I do want to go. I'm feeling fine in myself now during second trimester, could happily stand for the evening etc. I would stay near the back away from the bouncier crowd and I don't want to stop everything just cause I'm pregnant. I was looking forward to it.

On the other hand, it'll be loud, crowded and probably with a fairly lively crowd (rock gig). I also don't want to ruin my friends night if they would rather be in the crowd but will feel they have to hang back with me.

What would you do?

YABU - go and enjoy
YANBU - don't go, too risky

I did pretty much a gig a month when I was preggers, sometimes two! The last one was just over three weeks before I gave birth! Kiddo loves music and live gigs and I think it’s because she heard so much in the womb! Deffo go!!

Cyderdelic · 19/02/2022 17:27

I went to a punk gig 22 weeks pregnant, baby loved it dancing away inside. Was just extra mindful about not being bashed in to.

emsmar · 19/02/2022 18:46

I seen loads of bands in my last 2 months! Just hung about the back! x

Figgygal · 19/02/2022 18:49

I did a 2 hour away gig at 36 weeks at wembley with an overnight stay
Prob was a bit silly but wasnt it

Scout2016 · 19/02/2022 18:57

Another vote for go, if you feel up to it. I was really sick during part of my pregnancy and missed a gig because I thought it would be really bassy and I'd vomit. Also it just seemed sooooo far away (was actually 1 bus, stopping right outside).
Other than that I did gigs and a few club nights.
I get that you might feel a bit vulnerable though, I was a lot more conscious of feeling physically vulnerable.
I would also like to know who you're seeing.

BarryTheKestrel · 19/02/2022 19:25

Go for it! I saw Biffy Clyro and Rise Against whilst 20 and 32 weeks respectively. I stood further back and off the to side. Sat against the wall for the support acts/ when standing started hurting 😂.

Just be aware of how you feel, if you are tired, hurting, dehydrated etc, make sure you drink water, sit when needed and have someone willing to stay with you, or a meeting point you can sit at if you feel bad.

JustWonderingIfYou · 19/02/2022 19:26

Its fine, don't even know what you're worrying about. I went to a gig at 39 weeks with my first- baby was kicking away!

Alpenguin · 19/02/2022 19:29

I felt my first kick at a tiny basement grindcore gig - my child was (is) clearly not a fan of that kind of music. I was at gigs until 34 weeks when my waters went (at a thrash gig😂) and the doctor convinced me I’d just peed myself and not lost my waters. You’re pregnant not an eggshell

Meatshake · 19/02/2022 19:35

My friend was born backstage at a BonJovi concert.... Go have fun!

20viona · 19/02/2022 19:36

Absolutely go! I went to the spice girls at 34 weeks and stood for hours I was fine.

HW1989 · 19/02/2022 21:00

Definitely go! I went to a gig and wedding around 20 weeks and danced all night! Now at 34 weeks I can barely stand for more than 20 mins so enjoy it while you can!

Darbs76 · 19/02/2022 21:02

Yeah that’s fine. I remember nearly every Take that concert we went to after their come back there were so many pregnant ladies. It’s absolutely fine

TurquoiseDress · 19/02/2022 21:05

If you're feeling well I would say go for it!

Obviously don't get into the mosh pit and start throwing yourself around Grin

Seriously, enjoy yourself now, once the baby is here there'll be little time for going to concerts!

I went to see Kylie when I was 37 weeks, it was fabulous- we ended up getting seat upgrade as I was heavily pregnant; my best friend was delighted with this!Smile

89redballoons · 19/02/2022 21:37

Go go go!

I went to a festival at 25 weeks pregnant with DC1. I'm now 33 weeks with DC2 and last weekend I went to a daytime drum and bass rave. Stood at the back, did some gentle dancing for a couple of hours, home in time for toddler's bedtime Smile

Between having a breastfed baby and a clingy toddler and the various lockdowns, I hadn't been out to hear the music I love for almost 3 years and I knew I wouldn't be able to for a good while after having DC2, so wanted to seize the chance now. If you love going to gigs, that's something to consider.

AlistairCamel · 19/02/2022 21:41

I went to a music festival at six months pregnant! Had a blast.

Vinotinto78 · 19/02/2022 21:48

My son’s first gig was Kasabian. He was approx 6 months in utero. Hung a tad further back than usual but all was good. He’s a lovely, long-haired 11 year old now.

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 19/02/2022 21:52

I went to a gig at 38 weeks and was fine. Stayed near the back, out of the crowds and by an exit in case I needed to make a speedy departure!

Disgruntledpelicanlady · 20/02/2022 09:58

Thanks everyone - looks like I'm going!
It's Alkaline trio and Taking Back Sunday for those who asked.

Tell the venue you’re pregnant and whether they have a place you can stand where you won’t get bashed. Like maybe a balcony?

Crikeyalmighty · 20/02/2022 10:06

I saw Genesis and Yes at 37 weeks , funny thing is baby was really jiggling around during them—

itwasntaparty · 20/02/2022 10:15

What do you think the risk is?

LBOCS2 · 20/02/2022 10:17

If you feel fine, then absolutely go. I went to The Offspring early in my pregnancy with DD2 and spent the whole evening eyeballing the loos as I felt so rough, which rather took the shine off it - but then saw BFS at 34/5 weeks pregnant and was on my feet and bouncing about the whole evening! Be guided by how you're feeling would be my advice.

JudgeJ · 20/02/2022 13:17

@Butterbegood

Not risky! I went to lots of gigs when I was heavily pregnant both times but I’m not a mosh pit kind of girl so wouldn’t have been up at the front anyway!
Remember, you're only pregnant, not ill! I was racing dinghies up til six months, no problems at all.
JudgeJ · 20/02/2022 13:19

@Figgygal

Why was it even remotely silly if you felt OK doing it? Since when did being pregnant become such a cotton wool situation?
AmberGer · 20/02/2022 13:38

I saw Taking back Sunday when they supported green day, I was pg with ds1 at the time Grin
