This is surely an adult pretending to write like a child?

It's an adult writing with their other hand so the words look wobblier. Oldest trick ever.

UsernameIsNotAvailableRightNow · 16/02/2022 08:08

Before they hand anything over they should get the 6 year old to write the letter again once the parent comes forward Grin

tabasoc · 16/02/2022 08:11

I have a 6 years old who writes very well but no way he can write like this.

nolongersurprised · 16/02/2022 08:11

6 year olds in uk learn to read by phonics, they would not spell because "becuse". Becauz, becaus, becoz, becuz

Good point. My younger two went through a “becaus” phase at the same age.

UsernameIsNotAvailableRightNow · 16/02/2022 08:13

Thanks to lockdown I have an awful lot of examples of a 6 year olds handwriting in my phone from uploading school work.

This is the (in my opinion horrible) way they are taught to form letters.

If the DM wanted attention she would have put the kids name on it surely

but yes, its not a 6 year old's writing

Gooseysgirl · 16/02/2022 08:15

I have taught this age group many times and I can tell you right now this is not the handwriting of a 6 yr old

TheSongAboutMe · 16/02/2022 08:15

This child’s school needs investigating as to why it’s charging for meals for children of this age. Wink

UsernameIsNotAvailableRightNow · 16/02/2022 08:15

There doesn't need to be a lot of details on for them to get recognised these days with social media in the mix.

nothingmorethanthis · 16/02/2022 08:21

@Luredbyapomegranate

I think the child has dictated it to an adult, surely?

The signature looks like it could be a six year old.

I don’t think they are being deceptive.

This.

Why are people thinking this is some sort of plot?

Plenty of times when my kids were young I would write what they dictated. And in letters, such as to relatives.

Probably a private school 😂
baffledcoconut · 16/02/2022 08:24

When mine was 6 their spelling was spot on and ‘because’ would have been correct. They also could do 1/2 1/4 1/3 and percentages. So it’s entirely possible that a child could have done it.

But. The handwriting was nowhere near that tidy. Nowhere. That’s adults writing.

It’s a cheap stunt.

nolongersurprised · 16/02/2022 08:24

This my DS’s My Dinosaur Dairy at 6 years. Fairly neat writing, Australian and not cursive but errors make sense phonetically. “Somthing” as a good example.

My 6 year olds handwriting can be seen from space and I've seen all of his handwritten Xmas cards from his class.... this is surely not a 6 (and a half) year olds writing.

AdamRyan · 16/02/2022 08:37

@Spidey66

No it's not a 6 year old writing it, but I imagine the 6 year old dictated it and an adult wrote it, which is a feasible idea.
That's what I think too
CushionSpiral · 16/02/2022 08:39

Patent wrote or directed it and left address off to go viral for fake and freebies

It's a neat trick too if they can write that well with the non dominant hand. I broke my right wrist recently and my left hand writing was barely legible. I could not have written that.

I think it's just an adult with a sloppy writing style

nolongersurprised · 16/02/2022 08:42

I think it's just an adult with a sloppy writing style

And deliberately faking a child’s errors

wildseas · 16/02/2022 08:43

I'm probably a cynic but I would think that the adult who wrote this probably works in Swindon Town's marketing department. . . .

Smidgy · 16/02/2022 08:49

There are a lot of words in the letter that are either spelt correctly and I doubt a child would spell them all correctly, like any, doesn't, because for example. Or words that are spelt incorrectly but not in the way that children would actually misspell them, like schol for example. As a pp pointed out, children in England (and I presume the rest of the UK) spell using phonics at 6 years old. So 'any' is usually spelt as 'eny' and 'because' is very frequently spelt 'becuz' or 'becoz/becos'.

Also the handwriting doesn't have a childlike quality. I've seen 5/6 year olds with neater handwriting than on this letter but it's always childlike. Also the tail on y seems off. It doesn't look like the sort of tail a young child would do. Also the handwriting is slanting in places and 6 year olds generally write very upright because they're concentrating and trying to do it the way they learn in school.

I also question the use of 'because' and 'and' in the same sentence. That seems a fairly mature way of writing. There are also no words missed out in the letter and it's very fluent for a 6 year old. 6 year olds often miss words out in sentences because their hand and brain aren't working at the same pace. There is no crossing out of words which again suggests someone considerably older than 6.

If you put all that together then it's obviously fake and an adult has written this trying to pass it off as a child.

godmum56 · 16/02/2022 08:49

@FourTeaFallOut

Yeah, I wonder how many times a 6 year old spells school 'as schol', remembering the unlikely 'sch' and forgetting the typical 'oo'?

No return address marked on the letter though, so more likely to be some weirdo pretending to be a kid than a chancer looking for freebies.

I dunno.....rhey send it unnaddressed, he club post it on social media and magically "Mum" comes forward. What makes it suss for me is the tidy way the coins are taped on.

This made me remember why my DS could always spell because - the teacher taught them

Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants

Being very old I had never heard of this but he always remembered ut

SlashBeef · 16/02/2022 09:01

Aren't free school meals for 6 year olds a thing anymore..?

OMG12 · 16/02/2022 09:02

Of course it’s not a 6 year old. Some changer who knew it would get shared on social media. The parent will spot it, do a piece in the mail about how proud she is of her son, he doesn’t have much anc we struggle at times, Swindon Town is the only thing he loves passionately (apart from his little sister) were so proud of him managing to write that letter, stick it in an envelope, buy a stamp and put it in the post box. He’s always thinking of others, now give me that fucking invite to the owners box!

OMG12 · 16/02/2022 09:05

You see, even my message at 45 years old has more mistakes😂
