This is surely an adult pretending to write like a child?

And those coins are taped on too neatly for a 6 year old!

StargazerAli · 18/02/2022 11:11

I think you're right. Forgivable if they are genuinely in need of help but not if they're just trying it on. I guess we'll never know.

FancySomeChips · 18/02/2022 11:51

I think it’s 2 different peoples handwriting- the last 2 lines look different to the beginning.
Or someone trying to disguise their own handwriting.
Def not done by a child.

I teach y2 (6-7yr olds) so have seen and taught a lot of kids handwriting. Plus there’s no lead ins or attempts at joins. Even a child who cannot do cursive would attempt some of these even if incorrectly formed I’d have thought.

pollyanna1962 · 18/02/2022 13:48

From what I've seen of a 6 year old in school now they are taught cursive writing from the outset and that's not cursive. That's vaguely based on Italics we were once taught in school. If we assume it genuinely a 6 year old boy we still dont know if the story re school meal or dinner is true. Sounds like "no sorry I cant afford a ticket I dont have enough money for food" but it doesnt make it true however.

I saw this on a football forum a few days ago and said the same. A six yo who can't spell school but gets the rest right?

Also I'm sure I've seen it before?

On the off chance it is real, poor mum must want the ground to open.

No way a 6 year old wrote that

Why is this thread as popular as it is? Who really cares?

throughtheair · 20/02/2022 21:05

That's definitely an adult pretending to be a child. The handwriting is completely wrong for the cursive children are taught, and the spelling mistakes are wrong for kids who are taught phonics (a 6yo is unlikely to spell school as schol, skool would have been better! Or becuse - that would have been better as becos)

Hohofortherobbers · 20/02/2022 21:31

It was the stylish capital Hs that gave it away for me. What 6 yo slants the cross up from the downward stroke? My 6yo would have made 3 individual lines

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 21/02/2022 14:28

@Jonny1265

You clearly care enough to click on the thread and post Grin

Another infant teacher here - no way that was written by a 6yo. Or even a 6.5yo, for that matter.

I feel like this is fraud, why isn’t this being investigated? If it goes to a charity like food banks or anything else fine but I just have the feeling it’s not (because otherwise why wouldn’t you be upfront) It’s probably nothing to do with the person who wrote the letter as well just some random cashing in!

My son was in school with a 5 year old girl whose writing was much neater than that. She could read, write and spell before she started in reception.

TigerLilyTail · 22/02/2022 13:26

I did have a quick look at the Just Giving page and the guy who started it said he was looking at other initiatives to help deprived children watch games.

It's been all over the news. I feel if this was true, they would have come forward by now.

It's not about neatness. It's the style of writing that says it's not a child.
