Phormiumjester · 15/02/2022 22:07

YABU We're selling our house at the moment and the estate agents we're using are lovely.

Monsterjam · 15/02/2022 22:09

Not sure calling estate agents scum then asking them for help is going to work out too well for you!

MessedOfTimes · 15/02/2022 22:09

Iโ€™m renting, but couldnโ€™t agree more. Iโ€™m living in a waking nightmare because of them as we speak. X

Blue4YOU · 15/02/2022 22:10

The estate agents we used buying and selling the three houses weโ€™ve bought were all competent and professional and lovely

BlackishTulips · 15/02/2022 22:11

I had an awful one when private renting. Gave me total runaround.

ohhooh · 15/02/2022 22:15

Wow! I've only ever dealt with really helpful estate agents, both when renting (in a city centre so super busy market) and when buying a first home. We even dipped our toe in recently when we thought of moving - everyone was lovely!

Have you considered that perhaps if the strength of feeling you've shown in your original post is how you actually feel then they might be getting bad vibes from you? ๐Ÿ˜‚

NiceTwin · 15/02/2022 22:15

Our purchase took a long, tedious 8 months due to the estate agent.
They asked us for a deposit to show we were committed to purchasing the house, we refused. At that point, she just went on a complete go slow.

Iโ€™m glad youโ€™ve had a good experience it gives me hope lol

Iโ€™ve had dealings now with 4 EAโ€™s who have lied been Dodgy, caught lying and discriminating against me because I wouldnโ€™t drop my own broker to use there own in house broker and refused to pass on my offer to a vendor because I refused there โ€œextra servicesโ€

I was an estate agent. Iโ€™m quite nice, as was everyone I worked with.

EAs donโ€™t go on a โ€œgo slowโ€ due to pique I can assure you. It is in their interests as much as yours to get properties out the door as quickly as possible.

WingingItEveryDay7 · 15/02/2022 22:23

When we bought our first house the EA were awful!! I had to turn around to them in the end and tell them they could only communicate to us via the solicitors. They were lying to us in order to get the sale done quicker causing no end of stress!!

We up sized last year and had a few round to value and talk to about the process. The EA we bought the house via sent someone different, but he was really pushy even then so we went with another who were lovely, and constantly chased up the other EA involved for regular updates etc. They're all so different. Hoping we won't need to use another one for a very long time now ๐Ÿคž

TreacsPotNoodle · 15/02/2022 22:23

Maybe they took a strong dislike to the "live laugh love" prints on your walls

Ariela · 15/02/2022 22:25

I've had good (that rescued our purchase falling through to would be gazumpers from another EA) and bad (never passed our offer that was substantially above the offer they agreed on as we found out from the vendors a couple of years later - I suspect I wasn't smartly enough dressed to be their type of customer but it was the afternoon after I'd completed the sale of my house and had a lot of cash in the bank!)

Iโ€™ll have you know I love those prints lol

Iโ€™m a buyer not a vendor

My DD had recent experience overhearing what the letting agent ( part of big name estate agents) was saying to potential renters he was showing round the flat she had given notice on. He was talking absolute nonsense about so many aspects of the property, the other flats in the house, the general area.

She had to contact the landlord directly about something ( good relationship with nice person ) and mentioned this- the landlord was furious: said she had told the agent not to show anyone until my DD and her DH had moved out and it was clean and empty and had a refresh of paint.

Jenjenn · 15/02/2022 22:33

I agree. The EA involved when we bought were very economical with the truth lying shits.

Phormiumjester · 15/02/2022 22:38

Answering your post more sensibly - I think because they do it all day every day, some of them are desensitised to & complacent about the sheer sums of money they're talking about and how stressful it is for lots of us to raise those sums and part with them!

Not all though. Ours was fab. To be honest, we had little to do with them. We called about a house. It had gone but she was about to list another on RM. Booked us in there and then for a viewing and we'd offered asking within 3 hours of the call. After that, it was solicitors.

DogInATent · 15/02/2022 22:39

refused to pass on my offer to a vendor because I refused there โ€œextra servicesโ€

You don't have to go through the EA to make an offer.

Last time we moved we made our offer through the EA, but we received the offer on the house we were selling direct from the seller (face-to-face, following second viewing). The first our EA knew of it was when I rang them the next day.

EAs may be many things, but in terms of their traditional role they're increasingly irrelevant to buying/selling a house.

Thatโ€™s fantastic Iโ€™m glad you were able to do this Smile Iโ€™d do it too but itโ€™s a probate property no ones occupying the house
