Fish and Chips

Ordered fish and chips for tea, told the fish will be done fresh so 8-10 minutes - not a problem.
Lads wrap up the bags of chips and pop in the hot counter thing next to the sausages/pies etc.

Person A thinks the chips should be wrapped up once the fish is ready or the chips go soggy and smushed together

Person B thinks this is fine and Person A is making a fuss over nothing

Who is being unreasonable?

Person A is correct.

Newmortgage · 15/02/2022 18:43

Thanks all!! partner was mortified when I asked them to do them fresh…

Wouldn’t bother me because I like smushy chips but yeah I think on the whole they should be wrapped fresh when the fish is done. Smushers are then welcome to leave their own chips to smush if they want.

0blio · 15/02/2022 18:46

@ghostyslovesheets

B but I like smushy chips
Me too, and curry sauce please.
YoBeaches · 15/02/2022 18:48

I love mushy chips. But out of principle they should be wrapped when fish is ready.

Gonna have to get some now!

Moonlette · 15/02/2022 18:49

Eurgh they'd be rank, I'd expect them to be put in when the fish was done.

Knickerbokas · 15/02/2022 18:50

Nah they should be fresh

I'd have told them I didn't want those and that I wanted fresh ones when my fish was ready.

CaptainHammer · 15/02/2022 18:55

Person A is correct and I’d ask for them to be redone fresh

CoffeeRunner · 15/02/2022 18:57

Doesn't it depend how busy the chippy is? If it's quiet would they be any fresher left to sit in the cooker thing for an extra 10 minutes?

I'd much rather smushy chips than over cooked chips. If there's a brisk trade though YANBU.

SweetPotatoDumpling · 15/02/2022 18:57

God I loves me a crunchy chip! Can't abide smushed ones 🤢

SilenceOfThePrams · 15/02/2022 18:59

Mmm no. Chips should be well salted and vinegared and then wrapped to marinate the longer the better.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/02/2022 19:00

A of course.

Unless you like limp sweaty chips, in which case B.

SpidersAreShitheads · 15/02/2022 19:00

Oh blimey, my standards are obviously very low! I've never considered asking them to wrap up fresh chips!!

I have frequented lots of different chip shops over the years....*cough..... and when it's busy, wrapping up the chips ready for the rest of the order is absolutely standard.

Mind you, I also like smushy chips. DP absolutely doesn't like smushy chips but it wouldn't occur to him to ask either!

StScholastica · 15/02/2022 19:00

I was a fish fryer for 2 years.
The chips should be fresh.
Outraged.

dworky · 15/02/2022 19:01

Fresh of course.

Wilkolampshade · 15/02/2022 19:06

No mushy peas? Animal.

Iamanicepersonreally · 15/02/2022 19:08

I couldn’t care less either way

Cheeseonpost · 15/02/2022 19:09

They should be fresh, I’ve refused half an order under similar circumstances before at many takeaways

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/02/2022 19:15

Of course they should be fresh!

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/02/2022 19:16

@Wilkolampshade

No mushy peas? Animal.
Mushy peas are only fit for animal feed.

The Horror.

TheFairyCaravan · 15/02/2022 19:18

I had a Saturday job in a chippy. The chips should always be fresh.

Joystir59 · 15/02/2022 19:20

A is right

Wrongkindofovercoat · 15/02/2022 19:24

TBH the chippys round here always do the chips fresh. The most important question is did you get scraps ?

Blackmagicqueen · 15/02/2022 19:26

Person A is correct, the full meal should be fresh.

wealllovepj · 15/02/2022 19:28

How did it taste though ?
