Page 27 | Child’s passport only has 2 months on it. Flying to Spain on Saturday!

Help!!! Just discovered that my 10 year old son’s passport only has 2 months left on it. We have flights booked to go to Spain on Saturday. . Has anyone travelled to Spain on this situation recently? What happened?? Were you refused permission to board the plane? I have phoned the passport office . There is absolutely no way to get a passport for him in the next 10 days as need to do face to face for child renewal , no appointments til next week abs then a week to deliver by post.

Sadly there are very few appointments at the passport office to get a one week fast track. I don't know how people have managed to. I work on the NHS frontline so can't sit at a computer all day checking for one to be released. The nearest fast track I could get was a week away anywhere (so we wouldn't have made it). I would have gone to Belfast if I there had been an appt. The online premium service has no appts at all and is just for adults. Maybe I should have gone up to Victoria on Friday just in case there was a cancellation (I had the day off) but as it's a childs passport for the reasons stated above I'm not sure that would have helped.
They do need to sort out the passport office. It is a very poor service. 10 weeks is a very long time to wait. I have one work colleague who's kids passport hadn't turned up by 4 months! They had to cancel their holiday.
Anyhow we have a premium appt in 2 weeks time so hopefully sorted by then for another 4 1/2 years!!

Maybe could you change the holiday dates then you can at least reduce the stress factor while you sort out passports. A family holiday without your DC would be upsetting for all.

It's not just brexit though is it? DD and I have US passports, there has to be a certain number of months left on them to travel into Europe.

Yes we have. Ryan air almost charge the price of a flight to change…..our mistake though.

Yes it is the rules for some countries but we got used to this not applying to Europe every since I have traveled. The rules have changed post BREXIT. We just didn’t realise they had!

What happened here in the end, curious to know? If you ‘lose’ your child’s passport can’t that then qualify for a same day appointment or is the one week service literally the only option for children? Also it seems you now have to complete an identity check before the appointment which requires you to nominate a 3rd party not related to the child who has known them for min years and is a member of an approved list of professionals. and that means uploading photos for that ahead of the appointment and making sure they have approved the ID check before the appointment - further slowing things up :(

If you had read the thread you would have seen op moved the dates of the holiday.

Why did you bump a ZOMBIE thread when you couldnt even bother to read just the OPs threads which is really easy with the "see all" button

I did read the thread quite comprehensively and felt the point about completing an ID check was information no one else had posted. There is no need to be so rude.

Its really easy to see just Ops threads only. Even if yiu just use Ctl F ops name or use see all or see next bottim right hand corner of Ops posts.
Ops posts are also a different colour to rest of posts.
Thsts 3 different ways to pick out OPs posts.

Why is it our job to know if a thread is a zombie thread or not, why don’t the admins archive any dead threads automatically and prevent new comments if that is the concern. And yes I was using a mobile and did not see the post where the OP confirmed the outcome

I never said it was our job to know if a thread is a zombie thread, although I check the date of the first post before I comment anyway. I was simply saying that you didn't necessarily have the option to filter on OPs posts.
