Help!!!
Just discovered that my 10 year old son’s passport only has 2 months left on it. We have flights booked to go to Spain on Saturday. .

Has anyone travelled to Spain on this situation recently? What happened?? Were you refused permission to board the plane?
I have phoned the passport office . There is absolutely no way to get a passport for him in the next 10 days as need to do face to face for child renewal , no appointments til next week abs then a week to deliver by post.

And on the ball claims handler could still decline though

BABAHOTEL · 18/02/2022 09:23

@Toanewstart23

I worked In insurance for ten years

Ring up your insurer

“I will be travelling to France and my son’s passport has expired. If our risk pays off, will I still be covered?”

All will be other than your son. Your son is illegally in the country and insurance ceases to operate for criminal activities

The passport hasn't expired?

If there is a requirement to claim!
BABAHOTEL · 18/02/2022 09:25

@Toanewstart23 why did you ask if I obtain medical insurance?

BABAHOTEL · 18/02/2022 09:25

*travel insurance

HaveringWavering · 18/02/2022 09:41

Did your ten years in insurance end before 2015 @Toanewstart23?

LittleBearPad · 18/02/2022 09:41

@Toanewstart23

Apologies I thought it had
No it’s just not got 3 months left on it.

@Avidreader12

Spain don’t normally allow British passport holders to use e gates. Also they manually check kids travelling with family in person for other reasons such as asking who kids are travelling with for abduction reasons.
We were instructed by signs and officials to use the e-gates - the sign says EU and UK. Very sorry this doesn’t fit everyone’s narrative but it is what actually happened to me on Wednesday
daimbarsatemydogsbone · 19/02/2022 09:08

Uk Passport holders without local residency rights are definitely having their passports stamped at a some Schengen zone airports..and it looks like conformance with the 90 180 rule is monitored, whether your passport is stamped or you go through an e-gate

I don’t doubt this.

Meredusoleil · 19/02/2022 09:32

That's something positive!

Where was this? Which airport/port?

Aricife Lanzarote - it is part of Schengen (and Spain of course) I checked.
bruffin · 19/02/2022 12:49

Had my passport stamped in Fuetuventura about an hour ago

Cavementality · 19/02/2022 19:08

I would chance it and hope that they don't notice! If they do, ask them to call the port authority of your destination and ask whether they would accept a child arriving on a nearly expired passport.
I once travelled to Cyprus on an expired passport and was accepted!

Namechangehereandnow · 19/02/2022 21:28

Ffs cave …. Of course they’ll notice. Anyway, if you read the dates the flight was today .. Your username is very fitting.

You need a holiday!
daimbarsatemydogsbone · 20/02/2022 09:25

Just arrived back to BHX - used the e-gates, no stamping (and no significant queue)

AuntyBumBum · 20/02/2022 10:02

@Louisianagumbo

And generally, entering a Schengen country when whole crowds of people were disgorging from flights, a quick whizz through the EU gates and you were away. Now you have to stop and have your passport stamped, just like the old days. For work I have to travel to a lot of foreign countries and I love having my passport stamped but it's so rare it happens these days. I can't remember the last stamp I got in my passport. Most places you have to pay to have it stamped. I love that I'll have different European stamps in my passport. Brexit bonus!
Surely a parody? Grin
bruffin · 20/02/2022 14:24

We have just gone through and had passport stamped it took no longer than normal, very quick even with xavid passport checks
