Not aibu but not sure where to post

Just wondering what peoples hobbies are??

I'm trying to find new a new hobby for myself or one that I can do with my teenagers to get them into a hobby. We've kind of lost touch of things since lockdown and I'm struggling to motivate them to do things and to be honest struggling to motivate myself to get out there

Any ideas would be appreciated

Reading, gaming, gardening and baking.

ShittyFingers · 15/02/2022 07:21

Painting.

If you wanted to do something away from the house … photography? Hiking? Martial arts?

Hiking, yoga, swimming, weekends away.

I have recently taken up embroidery. I use kits where you follow a pattern as I am not arty or creative at all but I really enjoy making these. As I get better and learn all the stitches I will hopefully attempt my own designs like these:

Running and cross stitch. Though not at the same time.

Having said that I am running Chicago marathon this year and plan to cross stitch their logo on the flight out and my finishing time on the way back.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/02/2022 07:34

Hiking and scuba diving. Lots of people in my club have brought their teen DC.

CoalCraft · 15/02/2022 07:36

For me it's the three types of gaming - video games, boardgames and tabletop RPGs (e.g. D&D).

I also enjoy rambling, hiking and reading.

Completely depends what your and their interests are obviously.

Obviously there are an almost infinite number of sporting options. Between us my teens and I do:

Football (hobby clubs, women's and men's/ boys)
Martial arts (again hobby club really)
Swimming (not a club but a commitment to go twice per week)
Walking (5km at least 5 times per week and almost always a couple of those are 10km)
Bike riding (as opposed to capital C cycling 😜)

Non sports:

Reading
Motorcycling
Painting/ drawing
Amateur carpentry projects
Writing comics
Gaming

Obviously not everyone does all of those but they're all things at least two people occasionally or regularly two together and at least one does at least once per week.

If you want to try something new just look for a list of offerings from a club or class in your area - at your sports centre or technical college used to be standard... (I'm non UK now and know where to look here but not so much in the UK any more). A bit of a keyword internet search with your town name will bring lots up I'm sure.

Photography- it's addictive and expensive though.
Astrophotography - as addictive and expensive and can be frustrating if you get a long run of bad weather.
Fossil hunting - free (except for getting there and parking) and great fun. Something very awe inspiring about finding something 65million years old that no human has ever seen before. The kids enjoy this one immensely as well. Just don't be that person hacking away at the cliff and smashing every rock in sight.

My planned hobbies and actual hobbies rarely match.

I think to myself in the morning "I'll work on that cross stitch, finish that book, bake that banana bread tonight"

Tonight comes and I'm shattered so I Mumsnet with one eye on the TV
