I'm an ex smoker. Been 20 years. Get a craving now and then but wondered how many people still smoke?

So, do you smoke?
If yes, how many?
Why don't you stop?

The only people I know who smoke are teens who all smoke roll ups.

AryaStarkWolf · 15/02/2022 19:45

@MinnieJackson

Yeah I smoke about 25 roll ups a day. Im currently giving up alcohol so all my energy is going on that. Hope to be smoke free one day but I'm worried about the horrible cough you get when you quit (ironic isn't it Blush) been smoking for 17 years Confused
I'm off them 6 weeks after smoking for 27 years and I didn't get any cough (yet)

The only cough I had is the one that made me give up in the first place 😀

I am told though that the giving up smoking cough only lasts for as long as it takes to clear the gunk from your lungs

I gave up 19yrs ago before I TTC DS. It’s so expensive now, and very socially unacceptable (in my opinion, sure some won’t agree)

RosesAndHellebores · 15/02/2022 20:55

I gave up smoking when trying for my first baby. He's 27, I'm 61.

I still hanker for a cigarette and have promised myself that if I get to 80, I'll have a fag when I fancy and a bottle of wine a day.

GrandTheftWalrus · 15/02/2022 21:01

I started at 17 when out drinking I'd have a couple then one day I wanted one while sober. My ex forced me to quit for 4 years and I really didn't want to. I started again when my marriage broke down. Still smoke now. Infact I started reading this thread while out having a cigarette lol.

FastnetLundyRockall · 15/02/2022 21:11

I gave up 17 years ago, plan to take it up again when I'm 90 if cigarettes / I still exist at that point

atsixesnsevens · 10/03/2023 18:58

I quit for 15 years, but started again about 6 months ago.
No regrets, I'm enjoying it.
I think if you're once a smoker, you're always one really.

KimberleyClark · 10/03/2023 19:01

No. Tried it once, didn’t like it, didn’t try it again.

Flamingogirl08 · 10/03/2023 19:10

I never have. My Dad, Uncle and Auntie all died of lung cancer so I could never

SweetSenorita · 10/03/2023 19:10

No. But I have been known to if I think the situation calls for it ...... 😚

Throckmorton · 10/03/2023 19:43

nope, never smoked. What it does to your lungs is just grim.

Densol57 · 10/03/2023 19:45

No
watched both my mum and dad die early in agony from smoke caused COPD.
Never smoked and never will

justteanbiscuits · 10/03/2023 19:50

Tomorrow is my 1 month anniversary of quitting. I quit to have kids and started again. Been smoking 30 years, about 8 a day for the last few years. I'm giving myself 2 months on the vape before I deal with that!!

OneTC · 10/03/2023 19:52

Was a 60 a day smoker for many years but stopped for about 10 years and recently started again. Hopefully don't get too carried away this time

concernedalot · 10/03/2023 20:56

i've smoked on and off since the age of 15. I'm late forties now. Managed to stop when pregnant and breastfeeding and have given up several times lasting a few months - up to a year off them. Loved my menthol tipped roll ups even though they're really unlady like and stained my fingers. Finally gave them up nearly two years ago with the help of nicotine gum and a vape (yes I needed both!). Now i've given up the gum and just on the vape, aiming to reduce the nicotine content now to eventually phase that out. But my breathing has improved, no more strange crackles in my throat when I go to bed, or numbness and tingling I was getting in my fingers at night too. (I assumed that was down to poor circulation). Unfortunately now I feel like shit for other reasons down to the perimenopause but that's another story. Still pleased I managed to give up the smoking and finally one thing my doctor is happy with me for!

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 10/03/2023 21:35

No, I quilt 30 yes ago. Smoked 20 or so a day.
