To ask if you smoke cigarettes?

monroeagogo · 14/02/2022 22:51

I'm an ex smoker. Been 20 years. Get a craving now and then but wondered how many people still smoke?

So, do you smoke?
If yes, how many?
Why don't you stop?

Only when I go out out, so every other month usually for one night only. Mainly because I like it with a drink, I also only drink when I go out out, so most months I don't drink or smoke, it is a good balance for me.

pawpaws2022 · 15/02/2022 00:26

I vape, quit with the vaping threads on here. Managed 24hrs without a cig by having it practically attached to my face and thought well I can't go back now
Was on 30 a day when I quit

Andouillette · 15/02/2022 00:50

Started smoking at 15, smoked heavily for 35 years. Quit 8 years ago when I found a vape kit and liquid that suited me. I have never been tempted to start smoking again and enjoy vaping much more. The only downside has been the massive improvement in smelling and tasting, it's too much now!

Turnitupto11 · 15/02/2022 00:56

I smoked from the age of 18 to 41, now I vape. I've tried cigarettes a couple of times since and really dislike them, they tastes horrible and vaping tastes so much better.

Zerrin13 · 15/02/2022 00:59

Yes since I was 15! I now smoke roll ups with a menthol tip. Its part of me.

BaruFisher · 15/02/2022 01:08

Smoked from 16 until 46. Quit 8 months ago. It was causing rows between me and DH as he could see (as could I but I was in denial) the impact it was having on my health. Was on around 10 a day.

I went cold turkey, first few weeks were tough but am so proud I’ve managed to stay off them. Still get cravings and love when I catch the whiff of someone smoking still.

TibetanTerrah · 15/02/2022 01:08

I smoke menthol roll ups and also have a vape. It's helped me cut down but I still enjoy an actual cigarette with my morning coffees.

I also have a Nicorette inhalator thing which all of my friends who have quit swear by. I know I don't use it enough, but it doesn't satisfy the craving for me. I think a big part of the 'craving' is the ritual of rolling and smoking, more so than the nicotine sometimes, which is why the vape/inhalator doesn't always scratch the itch.

RobertaFirmino · 15/02/2022 01:09

I quit four years ago, by using a vape. I still can't quite believe how easy it was. I'd tried to stop umpteen times over the years, patches, Chimpax, inhalators, farty lozenges, gum, you name it. Every single time was bloody hard. The vape was a simple straight swap and I've not touched a ciggy since.

RobertaFirmino · 15/02/2022 01:10

Oops, I meant Champix! Not tampons for apes!

MulticolourTulips · 15/02/2022 01:21

I'm tempted to vape but worried I'll start smoking again

I've used an e-cig now for 5 bloody years. Non smoker husband was patting me on the back for a bit, but now nagging me to give up the e-cigs.
I think if you go onto Vapes it will help you get off cigs. I don't crave cigs any more. Nor had a puff for over 5 years. It's worth a try mate. Saved me lots of money!!

MulticolourTulips · 15/02/2022 01:27

So, do you smoke?

Not any more.

Why don't people stop? Because it's bloody hard. I stopped only because of a medical condition that made drawing in smoke a nauseous experience. Not everyone gets to be that lucky!!

MulticolourTulips · 15/02/2022 01:30

Same here. Do you still vape? I do. How do we stop that then. Serious now.

ufucoffee · 15/02/2022 01:52

I do but only sometimes. And I love it.

Hesma · 15/02/2022 05:09

Never have… hate the smell… how on earth do people afford it?

rubydoobydoo · 15/02/2022 05:18

Another ex smoker here, I quit over 10 years ago but then tried one again a couple of years ago for old times' sake and it made me feel really sick!
I had a few more after that and became one of those "social smokers" that I never believed actually existed back when I was well and truly addicted, as I missed the subversive camaraderie of the pub smoking areas, never managed to get addicted again.

It's been at least another 2 years again now since I've had one now though and I just know I would feel completely sick again if I tried one now and the desire has completely gone.

rubydoobydoo · 15/02/2022 05:21

Oops just read that back and my timeline makes no sense at all!

It must have been longer than a couple of years ago when I tried one again, as it's definitely a good two years since I've had one!

Missey85 · 15/02/2022 05:23

Started when I was 15 and still smoke now
I don't quit because I enjoy it

SuPerDoPer · 15/02/2022 05:30

I was a contented roll up smoker for years. Gave up during pregncies but went back to it part time 2-3 a day for the last few years. Gave up new year 2020 after loosing the love for the last couple of years plus kids would have started to nag me and its hard to justify! I don't miss it at all but it would have been hard to do if I hadn't already cut right down.

Simonjt · 15/02/2022 06:00

I used to be a fulltime smoker on 3/4 a day, now I smoke socially when I go out out, so not that often, maybe once a month.

Appalonia · 15/02/2022 06:10

Smoked for 30 years. Had tried everything to stop, patches, hypnosis etc. Tried vaping and now haven't smoked cigarettes for 7 years! If I have the odd one now, they taste disgusting. And I can't get over how expensive they are nowShock

Buddywoo · 15/02/2022 06:18

I smoked heavily all my adult life. I am in my seventies and stopped five years ago and started to vape.
The first day was awful but after that the vape was fine and I didn't miss cigarettes.
I suppose I am addicted to my vape but it's much cheaper, doesn't smell and is much healthier.

I tried to give up many times without success. The vape made it easy.

MumWithYOPD · 15/02/2022 06:22

Smoked socially until about 25 then one night it made me feel really sick and so I stopped.
Struggle to understand where it’s a person that wants to quit how they can stop in pregnancy and then start again, but that said smoking was always something I chose to do rather than craved.
I worry about e-cigarettes, we know the dangers of conventional smoking but what chemicals are people putting into their bodies with vaping? I think we’re potentially creating a whole new issue.

Fedupbuyer · 15/02/2022 06:36

I switched to vaping as the cost of cigarettes are astronomical!

Fedupbuyer · 15/02/2022 06:37

Also you can’t get menthol ones anymore.

TheHaka · 15/02/2022 07:04

I stopped 14 years ago after breast cancer diagnosis, I knew that I’d never smoke again. The nurses said that it probably wasn’t the right time to give up, I’m so glad that I didn’t listen to their stupid comments.
